Lose ends

Madden strolled into the living area, shoulders a bit slumped. He threw himself down on one of the sofas burying his face into a cushion. A long grunt like moan escaped from the sofa. John lifted his head to look to where Madden was groaning. He was deep into a conversation with Luna both looking at her computer screen. “I guess the drop off at the airport went well? Did T give you a goodbye kiss at least?” John had to fight a smirk from developing. Madden just groaned back “nooooo” then sighed out loud. He slowly got up from the sofa and went to the table where the other two were sitting. He sat down next to Luna, on the opposite side of John. He leaned his face onto one palm, elbow on the table “she told me she had fun, that she liked me... But only as friends. Then she just left the car and went in.” Luna rubbed his shoulder a bit “I’m so sorry Madden, I didn't know you liked her more than just a flirt.” Madden sighed back “it’s ok L, I'm fine. What's the news on our security?” Luna slapped her thighs and gave out a loud breath “alright boys, I got it all finished and ready. No one will be able to cyber attack you guys again. I got passwords for all of you, you need to change them within 24 hours. All the electric appliances etc is put on a different circuit that is not hooked up to the internet. Any changes have to be done manually. There are 2 alarm systems now, the one you had before is offline and must be changed manually. The other one I put in place has its own firewall. Everything is digital with that system. If one falters the other one will sound the alarm. No one can cut wires or break the firewall without setting either alarm. Power can not be cut as all electricity has been rerouted to wires that were inside the walls. And everything is hooked up to your backup generator. Thank you Madded for helping me with the electrical stuff” Luna gave a wink to Madden, he nodded and smiled back. Both men were listening intently to Luna “all bank accounts are safe, but with all of the safety measures I put in place there will be a 48-hour delay on wire transfers. All spending cards have small amounts and all savings accounts do not have any cards. That way if you are scammed or skimmed, very little will be lost. I also put in a couple of options for you guys, some viruses you can easily drop if you need to get back at someone. Instructions are in this file right here. Any questions?” Both John and Madden looked at her in awe, and just at shook their heads. Luna rubbed her palms on her thighs and took a deep breath “so the awkward conversation, where is James?” Both men squared their shoulders and squirmed a bit in their seats. Luna turned to face John. His lips pursed thin and jaw clenched. He looked into her dark blue eyes “He’s been cooling off. He's out now, hanging out in the pack house.” Luna frowned at that “pack house? Like a meat plant?” Madden snorted “you could call it that” then he chuckled. John continued “its where lot of our ‘employees’ stay, they live there. Like a frat house if you like.” Luna made an oh sound and just gave a small nod. “Is he mad at me?” Both men shook their heads, John tilted his head a bit clearly a bit confused “Why would you think that Luna? It’s with me he had a fight.” Luna cleared her throat “I got the impression you guys were fighting about what I had you guys do the night before.” Madden coughed a bit, his face turning red. “No, everyone’s fine! No need to bring that up!” He practically blurted it all out in one breath. Then he stood up and briskly walked out of the living room and headed for the kitchen. When he had left both John and Luna looked at each other then bursted out into giggles. As the giggles subsided John was leaning closer to Luna. His eyes glinting green, he slowly licked his lower lip. A tension arose between the two, Lunas breathing picked up speed. Her checks turned pink and her lips parted. Slowly John leaned in closer, his breath ragged. He lifted his hand to put behind her neck, he made it clear that he was going to close the gap between them. Suddenly Luna slammed her laptop screen down and jumped up from her seat. In one quick breath she almost yelled out with no pause “well then everything is set my job is done here.” Then she practically ran out of the living area, taking 2 steps at a time up the stairs to her guest room. John was sitting down still, perplexed by her reaction. He then slowly got up and left the house. He strolled down to a similar mansion to his, just bigger. He entered the house, immediately all eyes on him. The house went dead quiet. John took long strides towards the common area and let his eyes roam over the room. Then he walked over to James sitting down in a chair, he plopped down next to him. James did not look at him, just stared in front of him with his jaw clenched. His fist were opening and closing, like he was braising himself for something. An tense 10 minutes went by like this before James finally spoke. John’s face was blank, showing no emotions as he spoke. “I acted like an *sshole, I’m your best friend. I don’t know if I’m more embarrassed for not honoring that you are mated to her, or more angry that I screwed over my best friend. But most importantly, I was in the way of my alpha getting his Luna, and that puts the pack in a difficult position. Whatever punishment you have for me, I’ll understand.” Silence fell over the two again. James slumped back into his seat, his head fell. He sat there looking completely defeated. John bent forward and rubbed his palms over his face. He let out a long sigh. “Just don’t give Luna any crap for what happened between the 5 of us, and we’ll call it even.” James looked over at John and extended a hand. John shook it then got up from his seat. He then walked out back to his house. The pack house started to buzz with life again. The tension was cleared. James sat in his chair for some hours in silence.
