Wild Goose Chase

“Alpha, the box arrived.” The woman carried it over to a desk and put it gently down at the end. The alpha gave her a big smile has he rubbed his palms together “send in the beta” without sparing her a glance she nodded and then bowed in respect before she closed the door. Minutes later another man came in, he was tall and wide. He had more bulging muscles, like he lifted weights to get bigger. His hair was sandy brown and had a short cut. The man behind the desk looked up at him as he walked in, then he continued tearing the tape with the letter opener he had in his hand. As the man approached he gave a slight bow “alpha.” The alpha got the box open and pulled the top away to reveal the contents. “Time to find out all the secrets about this new Luna.” The alpha was grinning and had a chirpy voice. The alpha was slightly taller and wider than the beta, his hair a shade darker but with the same cut. The beta gave him a smug smirk as they looked through the contents. The beta pulled up a picture in a frame, it was of Luna with a cast on her leg. “Well now we know for sure she’s human.” The alpha nodded as he agreed, only humans would get casts for a fracture. The alpha fished out a red notebook from the box “her diary” then he chuckled “alpha John is going to regret messing with Dark Sky Pack.” The alpha started flipping through it, his expression ranged from confusion, anger and desperation. “It’s in code!” Then he slammed the book to the table. The beta then suggested “I can get our top decoder, and our surveillance team. They might know how to c***k it.” The alpha gave him a short nod “thank you beta, do that!.” Then the beta gave him a slight bow before he marched out of the office. Many hours later, it was the dead of night. 5 people were still awake, going over the book frantically. Their eyes were bloodshot and saggy, numerous empty cups of coffee was littered around the room. For each night they thought that they had a clue, but the next it all came crashing down as it did not fit the pattern. Weeks went by and the team was nowhere close to decipher the book. The alpha was getting sleep deprived and increasingly frustrated. He was on the verge of falling apart. 

“Hu, that’s weird” Luna put down her phone on the table next to the bed and looked to her side. Next to her was John staring at her like a little puppy. A grin on his face and flushed cheeks after a long session of lovemaking. “Hm?” John replied in a haze. “Well, mom called to ask if the box arrived. I never asked them to send a box. And I didn’t recognize the address.” John got a serious look and straightened up. “What was in the box?” Luna straightened up as well “just old stuff like my diplomas, pictures, trophies and my diary.” John started to scratch his scalp, he paused to think for a bit “what was the address?” Luna told him the address and his face fell. His jaw slowly fell and his face lost all color “that’s the address of Dark Sky Pack, or biggest enemy.” Luna snorted and giggled at that. John looked confused. “Well they can have it, I’m not going to miss a picture of me with a cast on my leg.” John sighed “what about your diplomas? Luna shrugged “they’re fake, I never went to college or university. I only told my parents that while I was traveling and partying.” John snorted at that “ok, so you were a bad girl” then he grinned “and you still are” he wiggled his eyebrows. Luna just scoffed at him “weirdo!” Then he got a serious look again “that diary, does it have any sensitive information?” Luna just gave him a look of non importance “nope, it’s just a whole book with my writing in code. It’s not even coded for anything, so it can not be solved.” John spluttered and snorted at the same time. “So if they try to decode it they will get nowhere?” Luna just nodded at that. Then John bursted out laughing “oh I really hope they try.” He laughed so hard he even cried a few tears. Luna just looked at him in amusement “I’m glad this is pleasing you Johnny.” Then she smirked at him. “So we should just let them have the stuff and pretend we didn’t notice they snatch it?” John nodded frantically with a huge grin “oh please, yes.” Luna tilted her head a bit and gave him a mischievous look “good, because there is more!” John got huge eyes, his jaw dropped in anticipation. Luna took a finger under his chin and closed his mouth. “Behind each picture is a faint drawing, it looks like a treasure map of sorts. It leads them all over United States, to the weirdest  and most remote places. And at each location sits a tiny little garden gnome with a note inside of it. And when all of them is gathered it spells out a poem about a wild goose chase.” John was now gasping for air as he was roaring. “I.... hope.....they.....try.....please..... godess.....have...... them ....try.” After a good ten minutes he managed to get his bearings, and he looked Luna into her eyes. He clasped his hands around her face and pulled her in for a passionate kiss. When he pulled back he sighed and confessed to her in a soft voice “I love you so much Luna.”
