Chapter Seven : The Dangerous Alliance.

850 Words
The rain had not stopped since dawn. Thin streams of water slid down the massive glass windows of WeiTech Tower, turning the city skyline into a blurred painting of gray steel and neon lights. Inside Liang Wei's office, the atmosphere was far heavier than the storm outside. Zhang Mei stood near the window, her arms folded across her chest as she watched the rain fall over the sprawling city. Her reflection stared back at her through the glass calm, composed, powerful. But inside, she was anything but calm. Her phone buzzed again. Another notification. She quickly took a glance. "Mysterious Heiress Marries Tech Billionaire Strategic Alliance or Corporate Manipulation?" She exhaled slowly. So the rumors had already begun spreading. Behind her, Liang Wei sat at his desk, flipping through a thick stack of documents Huo Zhen had delivered earlier that morning. His sharp eyes moved quickly across the pages, absorbing every detail. Finally he spoke. "Wang Xiao is moving faster than I expected." Zhang Mei turned. "Of course he is," she replied coolly. "Men like him never attack directly. They poison the air first so the victim suffocates before realizing what's happening." Liang Wei leaned back slightly, studying her. For a moment, silence filled the room. Then Huo Zhen burst through the door. "You guys need to see this." He placed a tablet on the desk. A financial graph filled the screen. WeiTech's stock price. It was dropping. Not drastically but enough to raise alarms. Liang Wei's gaze darkened. "Short sellers," he said quietly. Huo Zhen nodded grimly. "Wang Xiao is encouraging investors to panic. If he drives the price low enough, he can start acquiring shares through proxies." Zhang Mei walked toward the desk, studying the data carefully. Her sharp mind began calculating possibilities instantly. "This isn't just about shares," she said. Liang Wei raised an eyebrow. She looked at him. "He wants control of WeiTech." Huo Zhen's eyes widened. "You think he's trying to take over the company?" Zhang Mei shook her head slowly. "No." Her voice dropped to a whisper. "He's trying to destroy it." The room went silent. Rain tapped harder against the windows. Liang Wei suddenly stood. "Then we strike first." An hour later, the executive boardroom buzzed with tension. Every senior director of WeiTech had been summoned. When Zhang Mei entered beside Liang Wei, whispers immediately spread across the table. Some of them were curious, suspicious and hostile Liang Wei ignored them and took his seat at the head of the table. "Let's begin." Huo Zhen activated the projector. Charts appeared on the screen. Financial attacks. Media manipulation. Stock pressure. Wang Xiao's fingerprints were everywhere. Zhang Mei stepped forward. Her voice was steady, confident. "This is not a coincidence. Someone is coordinating these attacks from outside and someone inside this company is feeding them information." The room erupted. "Impossible!" "You're accusing us?!" "Ridiculous!" Liang Wei raised his hand. The room instantly fell silent. His authority was absolute. Zhang Mei continued calmly. "We have evidence that confidential WeiTech strategies were leaked before the attacks occurred." Her gaze slowly swept across every face in the room. "Which means one thing." She paused. "There is a mole among us." A ripple of tension spread across the table. No one spoke or moved everywhere was silent. But the fear was obvious. Liang Wei watched carefully. One person shifted nervously in their seat. Very subtle. But Zhang Mei noticed it too. Li Jun. The meeting ended hours later. Most of the executives left shaken and uneasy. But Zhang Mei stayed behind. She stood at the long table, reviewing notes. Liang Wei approached quietly. "You handled that well." She smirked slightly. "I grew up in a family where betrayal was normal." He studied her carefully. For the first time, he wondered how many battles she had already fought long before coming into his life. Outside, thunder rumbled. Suddenly the lights flickered. Then the room went dark. Zhang Mei frowned. "Power outage?" Liang Wei reached for his phone flashlight. But before he could turn it on Footsteps echoed in the hallway. Someone was approaching the boardroom. Zhang Mei's pulse quickened. The door creaked open. A shadow appeared in the doorway. For a brief moment, lightning flashed outside the window illuminating the stranger's face. Zhang Mei froze. Her heart skipped. It was someone she had not seen in years. Someone she thought had disappeared forever. A cold smile spread across his lips. "Long time no see, Mei." Her voice barely escaped her throat. "Guo Ren…" Liang Wei's eyes narrowed. The man stepped fully into the room. Rain dripped from his coat. But the look in his eyes was far colder than the storm outside. "And congratulations on your marriage," he said slowly. Then he added something that made Zhang Mei's blood run cold. "I hope you enjoy it while it lasts." Lightning flashed again. And somewhere deep inside Zhang Mei's instincts. Danger screamed. Because if Guo Ren had returned… Then the war between the past and the present had finally begun. And someone in this room was about to pay the price.
