Red Moon Pack
Christopher’s POV
Being an Alpha isn’t child’s play, especially when you’re the Alpha of the largest and most powerful pack.
Waking up with a heavy ache in my bones, I dragged myself out of bed. Ruling the largest pack left no room for weakness, let alone complaints. I headed straight for the shower. I took my time, knowing how busy and tough the day would be.
After dressing, I ordered breakfast to be brought to my room. Once I finished eating, I went to the library to start the day’s work.
When I got there, I found my Beta, Eric, preparing the files.
“Good morning, Alpha,” he greeted.
“Good morning,” I replied.
I sat down and started going through the files on Salman’s Pack.
Before I forgot, I asked, “Eric, what about the letter we sent to Salman’s Pack regarding their refusal to follow Clan policies and their continued alliances with the ‘blood suckers’? Has there been any response?”
“Alpha,” he said, “there hasn’t been any response yet, but Richard is on it.”
“Okay,” I said. “I hope we hear something positive soon.”
We continued discussing how to expand the companies when Richard suddenly burst in, panting.
“Alpha,” he said, “there’s a serious problem.”
Eric looked panicked. I shook my head at him—he always reacted like this whenever there was trouble, even though he was our best warrior. I turned to Richard and saw that he was genuinely worried.
“Calm down and tell me what’s wrong,” I said.
“I sent two guards to Salman’s Pack since we hadn’t received a reply in a long time,” he explained.
“That’s good,” I said. “So, any feedback?”
He looked at me, and I could tell there was more. I gestured for him to continue.
“Five days passed with no feedback, which was strange since they were usually our fastest informants. So I went with two other guards to look for them, but…”
“What happened?” I asked, losing patience.
“They’re dead,” he replied.
“What!” I exclaimed. “Who dares to kill my people?”
“We found their corpses under the almond tree. There was an arrow stuck in the tree with a note attached,” he said, handing me the paper.
I opened it and read, anger rising with every word:
“Alpha Christopher, do you think you’re the most powerful werewolf? Just because all the packs fear and respect you doesn’t mean I will. I’ve been ruling since your father’s reign as Alpha, and a child like you cannot rule over me. I will never submit to you, because I’m supposed to be the most powerful Alpha, and my pack should be feared more. The guards are a warning for you to stay out of my business. Don’t interfere in my pack’s affairs, and be ready for war. I will destroy everything that belongs to you.”
I growled in anger and felt like smashing everything around me. My wolf boiled with rage.
How dare he? He killed my guards and then threatened me. He was declaring war, and war he would get. But I needed to speak to the Lycan King before taking action.
“Eric, call the palace. I need to speak to him.”
“Richard, give the guards who were killed a proper burial,” I said, and he left immediately.
Eric handed me the phone and told me King Charles was on the line. I took it, exchanged pleasantries, and explained everything. He told me to come to the palace and said he would also summon Salman’s Alpha for a meeting.
I told Eric to prepare the car, then went to Vanessa’s room. I met her on the stairs talking to a maid.
“Vanessa,” I called, and she dismissed the maid.
“Hi,” she said, smiling at me. But the look on my face made her smile fade.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
“I’ll be going to the palace soon,” I said. “I need you to secure the pack. Make sure security is tight. Position all guards and make sure they’re alert. Ruth will assist you, and mind-link me if there’s any problem.”
“When will you be back?” she asked, looking worried.
“As soon as I’m done,” I replied.
“Okay, take care of yourself,” she said with a smile before leaving to carry out the orders. I could see the worry and anxiety behind that smile.
I went to the car park, where Eric was waiting.
“Is the car ready?” I asked.
“Yes, we’re good to go,” he replied.
I got in and mind-linked Richard, telling him to assist Vanessa. Eric started the car. I also mind-linked Ruth and told her to meet up with Vanessa and help her.
“Alpha, is there a problem?” Ruth asked.
“Not at all,” I said. “Vanessa will explain.” Then I disconnected the link.
Five hours later, we arrived at the palace. A guard and a maid were already waiting.
“Welcome, Alpha Christopher,” they said in unison, bowing respectfully. They also bowed to Eric.
“Lead the way,” I said.
They led us to the palace chamber, where we found King Charles and his daughter chatting. When they saw us, we exchanged pleasantries, and the King told his daughter, Bella, to excuse us.
Maids brought refreshments, and we began discussing the situation. We waited for a representative from Salman’s Pack, or the Alpha himself, but no one came.
The King tried calling Salman’s Alpha personally, but the call wouldn’t go through. I started feeling restless. I tried contacting Vanessa and Ruth, but the connection was blocked. I mind-linked Richard, but the connection was blurry. I told Eric to check all the CCTV feeds, but they were blank.
“Something’s wrong,” I said, looking at the King.
“Alpha, should I go check it out?” Eric asked.
“No, we’ll go together,” I said.
“Bella will come with you,” King Charles said. “She’s a warrior and a witch, so she can help.”
“Okay,” I said, and we headed out.
Bella met us at the car park, and we drove back to Red Moon Pack.
When we arrived, we found chaos—people crying and wailing. My sister was in a corner with an arrow in her chest. Ruth lay unconscious in a pool of blood. Richard was pinned to the wall.
I rushed to my sister.
“Chris, I failed you,” she said, crying.
“You did your best,” I said, and carried her to her room. I helped her remove the arrow and applied antiseptic to sterilize the wound.
Meanwhile, Eric carried Ruth. Bella used her power to free Richard, chanted a spell to bring him back to consciousness, and they both started treating the injured warriors. I went to Vanessa’s room, with Bella and Richard following.
Thirty minutes later, the King called. I updated him on the situation but assured him I would handle it. I made sure all the injured received treatment and the dead were taken care of.
Vanessa signaled me and whispered, “There’s a spy in the pack.”
“What? A spy? How do you know?” I asked.
“After I finished setting up security, I asked a maid to get me water. She did, and I drank it without thinking. A few seconds later, I felt strange—my vision blurred—but I ignored it. I called for the maid, but she was gone. Not long after, Ruth alerted me about the attack outside. I went immediately, but I was already too weak to fight,” she explained.
“Can you describe her, or better still, draw her?” I asked.
“Sure. I’m good at drawing,” she replied.
“Bella, get me drawing materials.”
“This is it, Alpha,” Vanessa said two minutes later, handing me the paper.
“Good. Get some rest,” I said, taking the drawing. I looked at it, then called Richard.
“Yes, Alpha?”
“Find this maid secretly and bring her to me alive.”
“Understood, sir,” he said and ran out.
I stood up and went to my room. Once there, I called Richard again.
“Richard, notify all council members that there will be a meeting in ten days. Also, make sure no one disturbs me,” I said, then ended the call.
I took a quick shower and went to the small library in my room. I pulled out the files on Salman’s Pack and studied their defenses, weapons, number of warriors, and active hours.
“Why don’t you send a spy to check their secret passages and security measures?” my wolf, Ace, suggested.
“You’re right,” I responded.
“I know someone who can help.”
I walked over to my desk and picked up an untraceable phone. I called Berney, a long-time friend.
“Hi, Chris,” he said.
“Hi,” I replied casually. “Why didn’t you tell me what they were planning? My pack was attacked unexpectedly, and a lot of people were injured.”
“I’m sorry,” he said. “I told you I was visiting my dad’s place. I really didn’t know what was happening.”
“It’s okay,” I sighed. “I need you to find out how tight their security is, how many guards they have, and how active they are.”
“Oh, that’s simple,” he said. “Last time I counted, they had about ten thousand guards. CCTV is everywhere, so you’d need to deactivate it first, and that’s not easy. The guards aren’t very active, though. You should be able to enter the pack around midnight. There’s a secret passageway you can use.”
“Okay, thanks. I need you to go back there as soon as possible.”
“Sure. I’m leaving in three days to check for any changes. They also have a lot of secret, dangerous fighters,” he added.
“Good. Update me as soon as possible.”
“Alright,” he said, and we ended the call.
