Gabriel didn’t want to believe it, but the proof was right before him. Sitting across from him in a fancy cafe across town known as Cafe Dreams, where the seats were extremely comfortable, the clouds, night, stars and moon were painted on the walls, and no matter the time of day, once you stepped inside the blackout curtains alluded to the fact it was nighttime outside, creating a scenario in which almost every couple wanted to experience together once, yet his boyfriend seemed annoyed.
And despite having talked about this cafe for months, when Gabriel told Silver he had gotten them a seat, the man was less than excited. In fact, he seemed somewhat bored. Silver kept checking his phone every few minutes, which annoyed Gabe because he was trying to talk about how his day had been going, just like Silver had asked, but the man didn’t care.
When the waitress came over, Gabriel ordered the twilight croissant with the Milky Way drink, just a coffee with caramel and whipped cream. While Silver ordered a Ganymede cookie and Jupiter’s heart, a rather sweet milkshake, which Gabe knew for a fact, Silver did not have a silver tooth in his body.
When Gabriel finally realised Silver did not care about being here, despite having not stopped talking about the cafe since it opened up, he gave up on trying to catch his boyfriend’s attention. He looked around the room. Small constellations on the ceiling were painted to mimic a night sky, but with all the stars and constellations in vivid detail. The walls were dark blue, and one of the walls had a galaxy painted in vivid detail.
Above each seating area was a small pendant shaped like a moon, giving a dimly lit white light to those surrounding it. Gabriel could see why this place was so popular; it was a haven for all astronomy nerds, and he may have brought Midnight instead. They could have laughed at the irony of it, rather than feel like, by being here, Gabe was wasting his time. At least he would have found it more entertaining than this.
A notification noise brought Gabriel out of his daydreaming to see Silver snatch his phone off the table, which had been facing down before a small smile appeared on his face, and he typed something back. If Gabriel had been suspicious before, he was now definitely thinking something was going on. But how did he even have a conversation like that with his supposed boyfriend? Especially when they had been together for over a year.
What Gabriel wanted to do right now was go home. He was tired and wanted to leave and gather his thoughts before he did anything impulsive, so while Silver was distracted by whatever he was texting, Gabriel quickly texted Ace.
Gabriel:
Can you meet me?
Cafe Dreams.
Wi Silver
Need to leave
Want to finish my food first tho
Ace:
Coming.
When the waitress brought their food, fifteen minutes later, the front door to the cafe opened, and the chime played a soft song as Ace, Isaac, and Bailey walked into the store. Gabriel spotted them and nodded, hoping to get someone’s attention. Isaac spotted him, and he walked over, the other two behind him. Ace waved as he walked over. When Silver saw that Gabriel was distracted from the food, he looked up to see the three men.
Gabriel watched as he heard Silver sigh. He stood and sat beside Gabriel as the three men came over and squeezed into the booth. Ace had ensured Isaac was first, then it was him and finally Bailey.
What surprised Gabriel was the sudden shift in Silver’s attitude from barely acting like he was enjoying himself to the most attentive boyfriend anyone could ask for. He ensured Gabe’s coffee wasn’t too hot before handing it to him. When he knocked the spoon off the table, he called for the waitress to bring another one, smiling politely, before throwing an arm around his shoulder.
Gabe wanted to know why there was a sudden shift, and when he stared up at his boyfriend and followed his gaze, he saw Silver staring at Bailey, who was fiddling with his phone. Something in him twisted. Ace and Silver mainly talked about anything and everything. He tried to get Bailey and Isaac involved, but the two men ignored him.
When he was finished eating, he kicked Ace’s shin and glared at him. Ace looked at his phone and frowned, pushing Bailey out of his seat and dragging Isaac along with him, “Gabe, we need to go. Now, let’s go.”
Silver stood up to let Gabe pass, and the man stared at his boyfriend. “Sorry, hope you get home safe.”
Gabriel left the check with Silver so he could pay for their food. It was the last thing he could do, and when they walked out of the cafe, the sunlight was hurting Gabe’s eyes. It took him a minute to adjust, but by the time they had, he was already in the car, with Isaac driving, Ace in the passenger seat and Bailey in the back.
Isaac pulled out while Ace turned to stare at him through the seat gap. “Why did you need us to fake an emergency? Weren’t you on a date? Didn't you finally get into that cafe that he’d been wanting to go to? Also, you missed a lot. Isaiah and Jamie were finally talking, but we heard shouting and whatnot, and then Isaac had Jamie pinned to a wall, a knife between his ribcage. I was going to continue being nosy, because what is going on with them, but then I saw your message, so what’s happening?”
Gabe stared at Bailey for a few seconds. He had doubts, but he didn't have concrete proof, and right now, it would all be based on the he said, he said situation, so he exhaled, shrugging, “I think Silver is cheating on me.”
