Chapter 30

985 Words
Everyone was in the Tomas house, impatiently waiting for the group to return. In the end, Erza suggested that Megan go alongside them, just in case something went severely wrong. But they were all beginning to think that something had gone wrong since they were supposed to have been home over an hour ago, yet they were nowhere in sight. Soren was sitting near the door on the ground, soaking in the cold air flowing through the hallway. Silas was to his left, with Ravi on his right, and Gabriel was off to the side. Soren should have known something was up with Midnight. The first warning should have been that he came to relax with them instead of Gabriel, his usual go-to person outside Isaiah and Royal. Soren knew they would be okay because they had no other choice. They had to be okay. Maybe they got caught in a traffic jam, and their phones had all died. It was a reasonable assumption, and with the way the people in this town drove, an accident could have occurred, causing this traffic jam. “I’m sure they’re fine,” Sebastian said. He had been talking to Ash, but he was too focused on biting his bleeding lips to listen to his husband's words. “We shouldn’t have sent her,” Ash deadpanned, staring at him, “She could be hurt.” “They know what they agreed to. You were there. They all agreed.” “She doesn’t know what she’s doing; you should have said no.” “Romeo,” Sebastian said, sighing. “Thea can look after herself; she’s not alone there either. They all know to have one another’s backs. She’s fine.” “What if she isn’t? What if something happened to our baby girl?” Sebastian didn’t get to reply as they saw a car's headlights pull into the driveway, and for a second, everyone held their breath, but that was when the yelling started. It was mainly Thea and Megan guiding the others. The front door to the house swung open with a loud thud, and in came the group, crashing through the sliding doors. They would have tripped over Soren if he hadn’t moved at the last second. They carried Midnight in, who was groaning and cursing someone out, though he was a little disorientated. “Uncle Lucky!” Thea screamed as she looked around the room, trying to find the man. The man, who had gone to the kitchen for a glass of water, came out with a frown and sighed as he drained his glass of water. “Again?” he asked, frowning, as he took a seat on the ground beside a bleeding out Midnight. “That should have been a one-time thing,” he muttered. Lucky once again asked some of the others to bring items he needed, and as usual, he said it would have been better if they had gone to the hospital. “No hospitals,” Rick said, rolling his eyes. “They’ll ask questions. Questions we cannot answer, too.” “If anyone found out I was doing this, I would lose my license.” “Well,” Roman replied gently, with a smile. “No one is going to find out, are they?” “What the hell happened?” Ash hissed. He was leaning on the back of the couch, staring at Midnight, who was disoriented by the loss of blood. Megan pursed her lips. She had waited for things to calm down and Midnight to have been somewhat more stabilised before she began her retelling of tonight and of how everything had gone to s**t. “Everything was going fine. We had it all under control,” Megan deadpanned as she stared at the rest of the adults. “They knew what to do, and we’re doing it well and efficiently. There was nothing wrong with what they did. We found her in the bedroom, as her routine said she would be in. Except she was f*****g dead, and they had been ambushed. They knew we were coming.” Soren’s eyebrows shot up; they knew they had been coming. But no one outside of this room knew the full plan. Hell, even as he was told what would happen, he wasn’t sure he understood it right, but they knew every detail. That only left one suggestion: someone in this room had leaked it. His eyes landed on the parents, some of whom had paled reasonably. But when he saw Seth and Lillian freeze and give one another a look, Soren was sure there was something else going on. They darted out of the living room before he could ask them what they knew. They began looking around every nook and cranny, and when asked, Lillian simply told them to shut up. While they scattered around, trying to find whatever it was, Lucky continued to stitch up Midnight’s shoulder slowly, where he had been stabbed. Almost an hour later, Seth and Lillian returned to the lounge room, and two small baskets were full of what appeared to be cameras and microphones. They scoped out the living room, and when they found what they believed to be all of them. Lillian scowled as she dropped the basket on the glass coffee table. She brought one microphone to her mouth. Soiren watched in intrigue, curious to see what she would do next. He hadn’t expected her to bring the piece to her mouth and scream as loud as she could. Lucky screamed back, and Dai threw a pillow at her while Ash threw his shoe. She quickly dodged both items and cleared her throat, a serene look passing on her face again. “Ghost,” she said softly. “Come here. I know you’re nearby.” Soren’s eyes widened in surprise. Someone else had been listening in on them? ~*~
