Ciaran rushed toward the control panel. The computer was still flashing an alarm, and he could see a red target on the screen. The monitor showed the target moving along the corridor from the outside.
Jake came on the screen. “We have identified a target traveling outside the protected corridor. There’s no breathable air in that area, so we assume it’s a creature of some kind. It’s small in size but creates an incredible suction of energy wherever it goes. We have a visual—should we destroy it, sir?”
“Show me,” Ciaran said.
What they showed him wasn’t exactly visual. His quick evaluation of the blurry image led him to the conclusion that surveillance cameras were poorly equipped in nonhuman arenas. That was a critical mistake he would have to fix later. The monitor revealed
