Chapter 26 The hole in the ground was humongous as if the explosion had dug a tunnel from one dimension to another. Jo peeked over the edge, but Tadgh pulled her back from behind, threw her over his shoulder, and carried her away. He didn’t like the feel of this place. The hillside was eerie. As much as he loved the fun and excitement of travel on Earth, being in this place didn’t strike him as either adventurous or intriguing. It was just plain spooky. “Put me down,” Jo snarled. Tadgh winced. “We have to get away from that rancid hole.” “It’s not the hole that smells—it’s us, Tadgh,” Madeline said and sniffed at her clothes. “We’ve just been inside the mouth of that—” They looked up and saw that the explosion had created a crack in the ground which ran toward the bottom of the hill.
