Chapter 3: A Lonely Path

207 Words
Dalya stepped out of the wolf park, the gates closing behind her with a metallic clang that echoed through the desolate night. The cold air bit at her skin, and she shivered, feeling utterly alone. Her mother's words still lingered – "You're to blame for your sister's death." The accusation cut deep, and Dalya felt a wave of despair wash over her. As she walked, the darkness seemed to swallow her whole. Every snap of a twig or rustle of leaves made her jump, and she quickened her pace. Fear crept in, its icy fingers wrapping around her heart. She ran, her feet pounding the pavement, but the sound of her own ragged breathing was the only constant. Dalya's eyes stung with tears as she thought of her sister, her smile, her laughter. The pain was suffocating, and she felt like she was drowning in her own sorrow. The city lights blurred together as she stumbled forward, unsure where she was going or what the future held. The silence was oppressive, punctuated only by the sound of her footsteps and the distant hum of the city. Dalya felt like a shadow, invisible and insignificant. She was a wolf without a pack, a daughter without a mother's love.
