We started slowly. I spent the entire weekend at Dom’s. So far it wasn’t going too bad.
“I don’t want to go home.”
“Don’t,” he said, “You’re already home.”
“Maybe tomorrow. What are you doing today?” I said das I rolled over on the bed.
“Well, first thing, I’m leaving the bedroom. Then I’m going to the cafe to get us some coffee. Then I’m coming back, and you and I are getting back into that bed.” He replied with a smirk.
“So, I should be in bed and ready when you get back?” I said with a playful laugh.
“No. Getting you ready is my job. You just lay there and don’t move until I get back.” He said before shutting the bedroom door behind him.
I heard him exit through the front door and I jumped up. Viv helped me pick out a bustier and a matching bra and panties set for this weekend, but I didn't get the chance to use it since we spent so much time naked. I quickly put on the tall black velvet stiletto boots I brought. I had about twenty minutes before he’d get back, so I grabbed my make-up and hair supplies and got to work. I put curls in my hair. I did my makeup and finished it with a bright red lipstick that matches my skin tone nicely. I heard the front door shut and I hurried out of the bedroom to give him an eye full.
What I found however was Matti glaring at me in the living room and behind him Lila was giving me her best resting b***h face impression. Then to my horror, as if I wasn’t already mortified, Dom came running in behind them. All staring at me from the other side of the room. f**k it. I looked at Dom as if he were alone. I leaned against the bedroom door frame and in my best come hither voice purred out “You are coming baby?”
He looked stunned, then with a smirk he said, “I’ll be right there, let me handle this first.”
I started to walk into the bedroom. I glanced over my shoulder before shutting the door behind me. Lila looked like she wanted to kill me, and Matti looked like he wanted to eat me. Maybe bravery isn’t a bad look on me after all. The voices from the living room were growing louder. Dom yelled at Lila to shut up and get out after telling her to mind her own business. I pressed my ear to the door to get a better read on the situation.
“Man, you haven’t answered your phone all weekend. We were worried about you. Lila still had a key, but we didn’t even need it since your door was unlocked. We just wanted to make sure you were a good man. Swear. I damn sure didn’t expect to walk into Taryn half naked looking like a snack.”
I was done listening. Lila still had a key. Why? It made me sick even thinking about it. Literally. I ran to the bathroom. I hadn’t eaten yet today so all I could do was dry heave. I heard the door shut and suddenly Dom was behind me holding my hair. He helped me back into bed and went to make me soup. I felt better but it came in waves. I ate my soup and we curled up in bed. We watched movies all day and fell asleep early. Two in the morning I was back up puking. The flu was not on my agenda. I didn't want to get Dom sick, so I snuck out and ordered an uber home. By the time I got back to my Dorm room it was almost three in the morning and Dom was in the parking lot when I pulled up.
“What are you doing here? I don’t want you to get sick.”
“I heard you leave, and I was worried.”
“I’m fine. I promise. I think I have the flu. I just don’t want you to catch it.”
“I can handle anything you throw at me, even the flu.”
“You are coming in then?”
He scooped me up and carried me to the doors at the main entrance. We stumbled into the dorm room trying to be quiet. I didn’t know if Viv was here, but I didn’t want to wake her if she was. I flipped the lights on quickly to see if she was here and wasn’t surprised to find two empty beds. I crawled into my bed and Dom flipped the lights off behind me and crawled in next to me.
“Can we make this official Taryn? I don’t want to see you with anyone else. I want to be the one to take care of you.”
As I snuggled back up to him and drifted off, I very quietly whispered,” We already have a baby.” And then I was consumed by darkness.
I woke up the next morning feeling worse than the night before. Dry heaving first thing in the morning is not exactly what I’d like to be doing right now. Dom was behind me holding my hair and rubbing my back. I haven’t kept anything down. I made an appointment with my doctor before crawling back into bed. Malachi showed up about an hour later. Dom had to work, and he figured the bike wouldn’t be the best idea for a queasy stomach, so he called Malachi to give me a ride since he had an actual car. Dom carried me to the car and kissed my forehead. He helped me in and told me he loved me before shutting the door and heading to his bike. Malachi tried to be chatty, but I just wasn’t feeling it. I was nauseous and tired. I just wanted to be in my bed.
At the doctor’s they took me back into a room. Malachi opted to wait in the waiting room. The nurses checked my vitals and tested for the flu and for strep throat. They had me give a urine sample in case it might be an infection. The doctor came in about fifteen minutes later shuffling papers in his hand.
“Hi Taryn, I understand you have some nausea and vomiting?”
“Yes Dr. Cobalt. For the last twenty-four hours. I can’t keep anything down.”
“Morning sickness can feel like the flu. Have you seen an OB GYN yet?”
“I did back home. I normally schedule my yearly exam with her when I’m back home on break. What is morning sickness?”
“Morning sickness is what they call the severe prolonged nausea and vomiting when you’re pregnant.”
“Pregnant? I’m not pregnant.”
“Oh dear, you didn’t know. Judging by your HCG levels I’d say you’re about three months along.”
“I’m pregnant? Oh god, what am I going to do? I can’t be pregnant.”
“You do have options. I’ll have the nurse put together a new mother bag for you. It will have all that information in it for you. We need to get you scheduled with an OB GYN here and an ultrasound. I’ll give you something for the nausea and some prenatal vitamins. Try eating crackers before you sit up in bed. Helped my wife. She has terrible morning sickness with our first. Just because it's referred to as morning sickness doesn’t mean it can’t come any time of day.”
With that he walked out the door. The nurse came back with a new mother bag. She went over everything in it and scheduled me with an OBGYN and scheduled me for an ultrasound. What was I going to do? Getting pregnant wasn’t part of the plan, not right now anyways. My degree? My parents? Malachi? I’m dead. They are going to kill me. I was being safe. Using protection. Three months. I got pregnant in December. December was the end of Matti and the beginning of Dom. Who was the father of my child? I really screwed up. I was crying as I walked out towards Malachi. I could tell him I had the flu and just didn’t feel good, but he’d known in a few short months I was lying so what good would lying do.
“What’s wrong Taryn?”
“Can we just go to the car first?”
I slid in the seat as Malachi jumped in and turned the ignition over. There was no way around it. I might as well just get it over with. He looked at me and I looked back at him.
“I’m pregnant.”
He stared back at me blankly for a minute then his face turned red.
“You’re pregnant? I’m going to kill him. I knew this s**t would happen. I thought you were being safe. Mom and dad are going to murder us both.”
“I don’t know who the father is.”
“WHAT?!?”
He was enraged now. His head looked like a giant beefsteak tomato.
“I’m about three months. Which means I got pregnant in December. I broke up with Matti and hooked up and got with Dom in December. I don’t know if it’s Matti’s or Dom’s. I’m scared and confused, and I want our mommy.”
“Well, it’s not possible for mom to be here right now but how about we go get your meds and I take you to Dom’s to get some rest. You bring your key?”
“How did you know about my key?”
“You’re my sister. He tells me what I need to know. After he does it, as usual.” He said with a chuckle.
Malachi stayed with me until Dom got home. He was surprised to come in and see me in the kitchen. He dropped his stuff on the counter and ran in to swoop me up.
“Easy. I’m still a little nauseous but the medicine Dr. Cobalt gave me has taken most of it away. I can eat crackers now.” I said giggling
“What are you doing here?” He said between kisses just as Malachi exited the bathroom and joined us in the kitchen. Malachi nodded his head and I knew it was time to break the news to Dom. I pushed myself back a little and Dom noticed Malachi leaning on the counter.
“Babe, we need to talk.”
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine but we have a complication.”
“A complication? Now I’m worried. What’s wrong, baby?”
“I’m pregnant.”
He stumbled backwards and caught himself on the counter almost knocking into Malachi. He ran his hands through his hair.
“Damn it!” He spat before walking out of the room.
The hot tears were stinging the corners of my eyes. Malachi grabbed me up and pulled me into a hug.
“You want to go home?”
“Yeah.”
I grabbed my coat and we headed for the door. I left Dom’s key on the counter before walking out and shutting the door behind me. I went to my dorm room and curled up in my bed. Now what? What was I going to do? Dom didn't take it well and after his last pregnancy scare, I doubt Matti is going to take it well. I sat up on my bed and pulled out the new mother packet. The doctor said I had options. Let’s see what my options are.
