Chapter 14

1002 Words
When we pulled up to our apartment my plans for the evening came to a sudden halt. Someone was here and I recognized him in a second. Malachi was waiting outside the door for us. Suddenly, my naughty thoughts seemed inappropriate with my brother nearby. My face turned so red from my blushing that I thought someone had lit my face on fire but neither Dom nor Malachi noticed thank god. I guess my naughty nurse outfit will have to keep hanging in the closet. Maybe it will see daylight another day because I knew this wouldn't be a quick visit. They were mumbling back and forth in hushed tones. Throwing glances my way here and there as they spoke. Suddenly, they both looked directly at me and in unison said, “We need to talk.” Oh Boy I was in for it now. We walked into the apartment and I took a seat on the sofa next to Dom and Malachi sat on the sofa opposite us. He had a worried look on his face and was sweating like a snowman in hell. What was wrong with him? I hadn’t seen my brother like this ever. He was definitely nervous. Maybe he was in trouble? Serious trouble? Maybe something happened to mom and dad? That had to be it. It was more likely than the previous scenarios because Malachi had never been in serious trouble a day in his life. In my panic I basically word vomited, “What happened to mom and dad?” he looked at me in horror. He went real pale and I mean white as a ghost. “Something happened to mom and dad?” Ok, so that wasn’t it. Maybe he was in serious trouble and maybe his life and his family’s lives are being threatened. OMG! I’m going to die! “That’s what I’m asking you!” I said basically screaming at him. How dare he do something so stupid and selfish! Damn it Malachi! I had to forgive him though. He is my brother; we share the same flesh and blood. We’d figure it out together, no matter what it was just like we always had. “Ok Malachi, what’s going on? Why are you two so nervous? And for the love of god will someone please tell me what is going on before I have a panic attack!” “Well, you see, there’s something we have to tell you,” he was stammering over his words, “We have a secret. I wasn’t allowed to tell you until now. I was supposed to let you figure it out like I did but the baby you are carrying is too important and now you need to know.” He paused for a minute and then his tone turned sharp and I had never heard him be so authoritative, “Taryn, I am going to talk, and you are going to listen. Do not speak until I am finished. You must hear the whole story before you can start asking any questions. Do you understand me?” I nodded my head but didn’t say a word. The look on his face said everything. For the first time ever he was afraid. You could see the fear in his eyes. Malachi was never scared of anything. That made me scared and I was honestly scared of my brother in this moment and I didn’t want to push his buttons. I was going to have to make a mental note of all the questions I wanted to ask at the end. I looked at Dom and saw the same fear in his eyes. Maybe they were afraid of how I was going to react to what Malachi had to say or maybe it was because of something worse. Only one way to find out. I nodded at Malachi but didn't say a word. He began to speak, his tone softer this time, “We are Witches. Dom here,” he nodded in Dom’s direction, “Is a Sorcerer, more importantly he’s a Warlock, a very power Sorcerer. The baby you are carrying will be a girl and she will be an Enchantress. The world has not seen an Enchantress in over 5,000 years. Your little girl is so special and she’s not even here yet. We must harness your powers and teach you how to use them. We need to protect this baby at all costs. Plenty of people, good and bad, will be out to get her all her life. Until she can harness her magic and be able to defend herself, which she will able to do easily once she comes into her full power. We need to get started right away, which means we need to go home now. With mom and dads help we can all train you and keep you and the baby safe.” I laughed. They were joking right? They couldn't possibly be serious right? witches and warlocks? I couldn't stop laughing. They are totally messing with me. I should be angry because of all the panic they caused me but I just couldn’t be angry right now. These two always kept me on my toes. When I looked up though they were both staring at me. They weren't joking. Malachi was getting more pissed by the minute. I don't understand. This isn't make believe or a book. Witches aren't real. right? I was confused and frustrated. Maybe they're on drugs. That would explain this. Maybe they're drunk or just hallucinating.I sat back and tried to take all this in. I stayed quiet running this over and over in my mind. I just couldn't wrap my head around it no matter how hard I tried. None of it made sense to me. one look at Malachi and Dom and all that faded away. They were very serious and I didn't know how to handle this. I had a million and one questions and I needed answers. Now.
