Chapter 3: Author's POV Imagine a world secluded on an icy plain, carved from the frozen wilderness of the Arctic and bordered by an ocean. Somehow, life thrived, and magic did too. Werewolf packs emerged, but humans infiltrated as well. The initial migration into werewolf territory was once deemed a problem, and the killing of outsiders ensued. This bloodshed, however, stopped when the werewolves realized they needed the humans just as much as humans needed them. Human ingenuity, vital for innovation and development, complemented the werewolves' ability to manipulate and stabilize the harsh climate. Over time, this mutual dependence forged a fragile harmony—a delicate balance between the ordinary and the supernatural. A mystical mist, birthed by the land's natural magic, shielded fragile human minds from the inexplicable. It wasn't sentient but it did it's work well, blurring werewolf transformations and concealing their secret gatherings, making peaceful coexistence possible. The mist clouded human judgment, making them oblivious to the werewolves’ true nature. Pack members were dismissed as eccentric—reclusive during moon phases, keeping odd hours, and adhering to peculiar traditions. Few humans interacted with werewolves, and even fewer understood them. One group however, possessed the eye of discernment—a vision to see through the mist. These were the Founders, a tribe that had forged the original pact with the werewolf packs over a century ago, ensuring mutual protection. But over time, they faded away from human generations, their bloodline thinning until only a few descendants remained, their heritage too diluted to make them stand out. Among these few was Lena. A girl with the famed vision. Unlike her peers, she could perceive far beyond the mist’s veil—a gift that often left her bewildered. Yet, she embraced it, letting her curiosity thrive. One fateful day, Lena stood at the edge of the thickets, her restless curiosity urging her to explore further. However, she met someone different that day, someone that would change her life forever. "Lost?” a deep voice broke her reverie. Startled, Lena realized she’d been staring at a man whose striking features seemed almost unreal. She replied casually, masking her unease, but determined to appear confident—despite not knowing what she was doing. Their brief exchange revealed his intent to stop her. But Lena’s resolve to venture deeper into the woods was unshakable—even if it meant defying him. Without any hesitation, she rushed forward, diving into the mysterious fog. They were so many hiding places so she was sure she could lose him. And she did! She lost him in the race and certain he wasn't pursuing any longer, she came out in the open. There before her was a large clearing and many buildings. Her breath caught as she beheld a hidden expanse, dotted with buildings and bathed in an otherworldly beauty. As she stood taking in the beautiful view, she suddenly felt a shove as a man tackled her to the ground. Her breathing felt laboured as she let out a scream. The sound was rather melodic than shrill in the night but still it lasted for only a while. A firm hand had covered her mouth and before she could struggle or do anything, the scene blurred and changed entirely before her eyes. Jason stood in front of her, a finger against his lips gesturing for her to be silent. He had left her alone now, so she was free to disobey, or even run. She didn't know why, but she trusted him —she trusted him enough to listen and wait for an explanation. "You can't be here," he said simply. Not much of an explanation but it was a start. "Why?" She pressed seeing he wasn't about to offer more. He looked annoyed, felt conflicted as he wondered how to tell her. Judging from her actions, she wasn't backing down unless he told her everything. "You're in the werewolf territory and there's a festival now. Any human found would be killed on sight," he told her in the shortest form possible. He noticed her expression —just understanding, no shock. She was definitely the most strange human he had ever seen and it pulled him in. "Why aren't you surprised?" He asked stepping closer. "It just makes sense," she responded in a whisper. He raised an eyebrow so she continued, "I've been having a strange feeling since, and things I see are confusing sometimes, but it's all coming together now." He observed the girl in front of him, feeling an odd instinct to protect her. Her boldness attracted him like a magnet, but he knew her fearlessness would be the death of her. She was definitely not getting out of here alive. Not without some help. She noticed it too because now she looked away, backing down. The realisation of her mistake was one thing but the consequence of that curiosity was another. "Please help me," she pleaded knowing death was what awaited. He was quick in making his plan, knowing he couldn't spend long as he'd be soon required at the festival. If he left her for later, who knew what would happen before he returned? He hoisted her onto his shoulders, and put a couple of bags on her. The electricity when he felt the contact of her skin was irresistible, but he forced himself to ignore it as her life's at stake. Fields and buildings blurred around him as he zoomed out of the danger zone at a speed only royalty could go at. Because of that, they met no one and no obstacle on the way. He dropped her, panting heavily while she looked around in awe. It was amazing that she'd be safe so soon against all odds. Either it was to appreciate him or she was compelled by a force. The result was her stepping closer and kissing him on the cheek. It only served to stir up the feelings raging through him— the frustration of not having Fiona yet, and the electricity that came with her presence. He ravaged her lips in response and she let him, wanting it also. She didn't leave there anytime soon... She'd been pulled down and pinned by an alpha to have the most devastating s*x ever. What he didn't know was that this was not a one night stand. The spontaneous decision. would alter the course of his life forever.
