Chapter Nine: Nick left work at four-thirty with the good intentions of going straight home to spend a bit of quality-time with Cloey. Inga had said she would stay until he arrived and seeing Inga twice in one day wasn’t going to be hard to take. Maybe he could convince her to stay an extra hour to help feed Cloey. With that thought in mind, he detoured to the bakery and picked up a half-dozen lamb samosas, a favorite of Cloey’s. Inga met him at the front door. “How was your day?” she asked, taking his briefcase and Nick had to hold himself back from leaning in to peck her on the cheek. It seemed a natural response.
