I lied. I couldn’t trust anyone yet.
“Dian…” he mumbled like he tasted the name on his tongue. “… so what brings you here” I looked around again, I knew I’d have to tread carefully. “…I was hoping to meet someone” I say then looked at him. “Hmm… Seems it’s really important.”
“Yeah.” I mumbled, “… I didn’t get your name either” He stared at me for a moment and then whispered, “Philip” I chuckled then repeated his name softly, “Philip… got it” He chuckled too, “How long have you worked here?” I asked and he turned to grab some bottles and returned to me, “3 years or more. You didn’t seem like the type to be interested in my work?”
“I was just curious.” I then looked around making sure no one was eavesdropping. “Hey… you happen to know Ellis Murray, right?” he looked at me like he was uncertain on what to say to me. “Yes… I do know him. Really big billionaire… Uhm… is he then one you’re supposed to meet?”
“No, of course not. I’m just really curious…” I drew closer, “…How often does he come here?” His eyes narrowed, “That… I don’t know about. Besides he isn’t a commoner that walks up to the bar. He has his private suite here. Seems pretty good as he’s one of the top three ambassadors of this club.”
“That’s cool…” I said, smiling “… heard his sister died years ago,” I said, lowering my voice. “What about her?” he mumbled looking quite uncomfortable with the topic as he passed me my drink. My finger traced the rim of the glass as I thought for a while, then took a huge sip and asked again, “who would have done such a thing to the poor girl”
“I wouldn’t know that, I have no interest in his personal life…,” he said, his attention fully on me now. I began to feel slightly tired and I discreetly cross-checked the knife strapped to my thigh. I looked at my drink again contemplating if to finish it as I was already feeling dizzy. That was when I realized… “What… what did you do to me? I…” and then my eyes shut as I drifted out of consciousness. The last thing I saw was the little smirk playing on his lips.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
I woke up panting, at first I thought it was a dream till I opened my eyes to an unfamiliar suite. The air was cold, and the room looked luxurious. My hand immediately went to search for my knife and I gasped discovering it wasn’t there. That could only mean trouble, my eyes quickly averted around the room as I remembered the last thing before I had fainted… Philip, He must have drugged me. They were three hefty bodyguards in the room with me. One moved to a door inside the room.
“Boss, she’s awake” The other two were standing erect like they weren’t even alive. Just then, a familiar man emerged from the door. I strained my eyes a bit before the figure came into view… Ellis Murray. I panicked a bit inwardly. Why was I here? Most of all, why was Mr. Murray here? My eyes travelled down his muscular physique for a moment. He was wearing a grey tuxedo and his steely grey eyes looked as cold as always.
He stepped towards me, I didn’t know why but I felt the need to put distance between us. I scooted back slightly on the bed. His aura was cold and frightening, for a moment I felt like I couldn’t breathe. He had a cigarette to his lips; he took it out and tossed it into the ash tray. “Who sent you?” he said, his deep voice like a low growl. I didn’t know how to respond, my mind racing for words that wouldn’t come. I just stared into his empty gray orbs. “…Alright, let me ask this again, why the f**k are you spying on me?”
I fought the urge to scoff. “I wasn’t spying on you”. He looked displeased with my answer, “Look, I’m pretty sure you know who I am. And you must know how much I despise wasting my time. So are you going to answer me or…” he left the threat hanging “I swear I wasn’t spying on you. I … I…” I kept quiet. I didn’t know what to say. “Sir, do you want us to carry on?” a bodyguard said and he smirked.
“No. leave us alone for a moment…” he said and immediately all the guards began to leave the room but stayed behind the door in case of any emergency. When we were finally alone, he looked at me waiting for an answer. “I was only curious about you… and…. I, I promise it won’t happen again”. “Fine… get up and leave.”
My eyes widened in shock, “What??” I asked shocked. “Did I stutter?” he said coldly looking at me like he was going to set me fire in the next minute. Was he really just going to let me go?? Just like that?? His body language remained closed and shut off, not giving me a single hint of what he was thinking. “No… no, you didn’t” I say getting up from the bed and fought the urge to look back at him as I left the room
