I couldn’t stop thinking about what had happened. Did he really just let me go? Was there more to what had just happened? I slapped my head a couple of times, trying to process it. I shouldn’t have been so careless. I groaned tossing my phone and getting into bed and then shut my eyes forcing myself to sleep. The next day, I woke up a bit tired and sore, mostly from being drugged the other day. I showered, dressed in a red shirt and blue jeans, had bacon and eggs, and went for work. I joined Christine in brewing coffee for customers, we weren’t too busy and the shop wasn’t always full. I was doing the dishes when Christine hurried in with a cheeky smile on her face, “Samantha, you wouldn’t believe this but the shop’s actually buzzing with customers. They’re a fuckin’ lot. I’ll need your help collecting orders. And plus, a fuckin’ VIP walked into our shop” She squealed and joined some waiters and waitresses out of the kitchen. A VIP huh? What would a VIP be doing here? Did he lack taste or something? Nice of me to assume it was a man. I wiped my hands on my jeans and stepped out with an empty tray looking into the surprisingly filled restaurant. My eyes scanned the place as I turned on the blue neon light that read ‘Blue Horizon Dinner’. I began to collect orders from the first table when I looked ahead and my eyes met with a familiar set of emerald gray eyes boring into mine. My blood ran cold. Of course it was him, the elusive billionaire. What was he doing here?? My heart leaped in my chest, i had to get back to the kitchen quickly, but my legs felt heavier with each step. Was he following me? This couldn’t be a coincidence. I thought he had let me go… Christine walked into the kitchen, “What are you doing Sam? They are a lot of customers out there.” I took a few deep breaths then nodded, “I’ll be out in a second”. She stood still for a while, “What’s going on, Sam? Are you okay?” Christine’s voice was sharp with concern, pulling me back to reality. “I’m fine. I’ll be out, okay?” “Fine, make it quick.” She then left the kitchen with some orders. I then mustered courage and left the kitchen into the restaurant. I tucked some strands of her that had fallen out of my messy bun behind my ear then walked past him to place some dishes on the table behind. As I headed back to the kitchen, I heard him say, “Don’t you think we’ve passed the stage of pretending not to know each other, Dian… oh my bad… I mean, Samantha Martinez” I felt him smirking as I turned to face him, but by the time I did, his eyes had already shifted, cold and distant once more. I blinked, still processing the shock, before I realized the reality of the situation. He knew my name??? Besides he was Ellis Murray, the famous billionaire. What couldn’t he do? Of course he knew my name. I struggled to compose myself. His enigmatic aura never failed to unsettle me. “How… do you know my name?” I regretted the question immediately it left my lips. “Why do you look so shocked?” he said, a smirk forming on his lips. “Samantha Martinez, daughter of the late detective Ted Martinez, your father right?” he gently watched my reaction, “…Who died while working on my sister’s case…” he paused, watching my shocked expression. “… Perhaps you’re wondering what more I know about you.” I felt a wave of uncertainty hit me. I glanced at the menu in my hands, trying to find something to say. “Uhm… I’m sorry, what would you like to have?” I quickly passed him the menu. “We need to talk” he said not even glancing at the menu. His cold gaze was fixed on me. I looked around for a moment, trying to gather my thoughts. I didn’t want to engage him, but I knew I needed to come up with something quickly; I looked around again my eyes scanning the customers in the shop who were only interested in staring at Ellis. “I have some work to attend to, Sir. As you can see, the place is unusually full” I say watching him, hoping he’ll take the bait but then he slipped his hand into his suit pocket and took out his cell phone. I watched as he dialed a number and I could listened, only able to make out a few words “… I’m at your place. Don’t make me wait…”
