The Memories

Geneva looked beautiful in her deep red gown, which had simple ruffles at the skirt of the dress. Her mother painted her lips red, and she looked like a seductress. Geneva thought it was too much. But her mother insisted. Lorna walked downstairs, holding the sides of her light blue gown in her hands. Eyan's eyes widened as he saw his wife. He opened the button of his brown suit, and reached his hand out to her. Lorna chuckled, and held her husband's hand. " You look beautiful tonight. " Eyan commented. " Thank you. " Lorna tucked her hair strands behind her ears. Toman appeared in the living room wearing his grey suit, his hair was combed back, and he looked older than he was. Lorna covered her mouth with her hand, and gasped. " My boy! " Lorna cried, and hugged her son. Eyan highfived his son as they had spent their precious time to decide what they would wear tonight. " You certainly don't look like a fifteen year old. " Lorna said, breaking their hug. She sniffed. " And you're wearing your father's scent." Lorna said. " Relax, Lorna. I gave him the bottle. " Eyan said, turning his wife's attention towards him. " What? That costed me five charins. And the potion maker was still reluctant to give me the bottle. I had bargain wih him for like one hour. " Lorna said. " Relax, sweetness. " Eyan whispered as he stepped closer to her, his hands going around her waist. " I'll make it up to you. Okay? " He said. Lorna blushed. " Ewww. " Toman wrinkled his nose, and ran off to the kitchen. Eyan howled a laugh. " Don't eat the food yet. Don't even taste it. " Lorna shouted. Geneva was called by her mother. When she got out of her room, she heard laughters booming in the living room. Geneva smiled, thinking that the guest is having great time. And that's what they wanted. Geneva walked down the stairs, and four heads turned towards her. Lorna, Eyan, the guest stood up from the sofa. Geneva smiled at her parents and then at the man, who straightened his suit, and smiled back. Geneva took time to notice him. He looked so young but rough. His black hair was messy, and his black suit was perfectly ironed. His green eyes were stuck at Geneva's cocoa brown ones. Geneva broke the contact first, and stood beside her parents. Lorna set Geneva's hair, and smiled proudly. " Please sit down, Mister. Reverie. " Eyan said, to which the man nodded his head, and sat back on the sofa. " So, did he like the painting? " Geneva whispered in her mother's ears. " No. But he will. " Lorna whispered back as she adjusted her silver necklace. " So, Miss. Rivers, what do you like to do? " Mister. Reverie asked, smiling. Geneva glanced at her parents. Her father gave a firm nod. Geneva turned to Mister. Reverie, and said, " I... I like reading books." Mister. Reverie's eyebrows went up, and asked, " Really?" Geneva nodded her head. " What books did you read till now? " " Well, I am reading a story book. It's about a girl guarding an infant with her life, who is not even hers. " Geneva answered. " Oh. You're reading ' The Memories'. " Mister. Reverie's eyes sparkled with recognition. " Yeah. You've read that? " Geneva asked. " Yes! It has good ending. " Mister. Reverie smiled. " Don't give me spoiler. " Geneva wrinkled her nose, and pouted her lips. Mister. Reverie's eyes took a glance of her red lips, and he laughed. " Of course not. " He said. Geneva let out a chuckle too. At dinner they laughed at Mister. Reverie's jokes. He was a nice guy, and had a great sense of humor. Geneva thought that every man who likes art is nice. And Mister. Reverie proved her right. Geneva tasted the fish stew and sighed softly. She was hungry. Mister. Reverie was busy talking with her father. So, Geneva got the chance to enjoy her food. She finished the stew, and went with meat and potatoes. The meat was nicely done. Tender from inside, and rough from out. The meat's juciness made Geneva think of the meat that she ate in the mansion, and also Giselle who kept shouting at her to hurry up. Geneva shook her head slowly, and continued enjoying her meat, and potatoes. " So, Toman, what do you want to be when you grow up? " Mr. Reverie asked her brother. " I want to be a Glass artist. " Toman answered. " Oh. Did you make anything by yourself? " " Yes. I have made lots of pieces." Toman smiled, and raised his chin. " Oh? Want to show me after dinner? " " Sure. " Toman grinned. The dinner ended, and Mister. Reverie waited for something sweet. He also has sweet tooth. So, when Lorna requested him to stay for some sweets, he couldn't say no. Geneva helped her mother bring the sweets to her father, brother, and Mister. Reverie. Geneva handed the plate containing apples glazed with caramel, some chocolates, sweet almonds, and orange cream cake. Mir. Reverie's hand brushed over Geneva as he took the plate, and smiled at her. His rough fingers made Geneva sure that he is a fighter. Geneva smiled, and walked to her mother. Lorna served her a plate, and Geneva sat beside her brother. Toman hurriedly showed Mr. Reverie his small glass sculptures. Some were teddy bears, some were small cups, and some were shaped into diamonds, and hearts. Geneva didn't know her brother made glass sculptures. And she didn't even see the sculptures in his room. Where does he exactly keep the sculptures? " Wow! Toman, you're very talented. " Mr. Reverie exclaimed as he admired the sculptures. " Thank you. " Toman grinned. " I have a great master who teaches how to make glass sculptures. If you don't mind, then I can tell the master to teach Toman. " Mr. Reverie said to Eyan. " But... We can't afford the fees. " Lorna interupted. " Don't worry. I'll take care of the fee. " Mr. Reverie smiled. " Thank you so much, Mr. Reverie. " Lorna, and Eyan smiled. " No problem. But... I have a condition. " He said. And Geneva was starting to respect the guy. " What condition? " Lorna asked, the beautiful smiles vanishing from their faces. " Toman has to work for me when he becomes a great sculptor. " Mr. Reverie smiled. And up went the respect level that Geneva had for the man. " Sure. Sure. He would need a job when he becomes a sculptor. " Eyan said, grinning ear to ear. Toman nodded. Mr. Reverie patted his back. " Keep working hard, little guy. " He said, smiling. Then Mr. Reverie's eyes met with Geneva. He jerked his head up a little, to which Geneva shook her head, smiling. A grin plastered on his face, which turned into a breathy chuckle. Mr. Reverie stood up, and the rest of them did the same thing. " it's time to go. " He said. Eyan, and Lorna nodded their heads. Then, Mr. Reverie turned to Geneva, and said, " Let's go, Geneva. " Geneva's smile turned into a frown, and she backed a few steps. " What? " she asked. " We have to go. Come on. " Mr. Reverie said, not breaking the eye contact with her. " Are you joking? Why would I go with you? " Geneva asked, chuckling awkwardly. " Because You're mine, Miss. Rivers. So, let's go. " Mr. Reverie said, reaching his hand out to her. Geneva backed away from him. Her back hit the cold wall, and her eyes met with her parents. " What.... what is he saying? " She asked her parents. Geneva never thought parents could say things like her parents did. " You are his, Honey. You have to go. " Lorna said, blatantly looking at her daughter. " What? " She repeated her question. " Don't waste Mr. Reverie's time, dear. " Eyan said. " But... He came.. here to buy your painting. " Geneva said." No, you b*tch, he bought you. " Toman spat. Geneva gasped loud bang sounded from the impact that Mr. Reverie put on Toman's cheek. Toman covered his red cheek with his hand, and looked at Mr. Reverie with astonishment. " Mr. Reverie! " Eyan raised his voice. Mr. Reverie turned his burning glare to Eyan, who gulped. " Do you have anything to say? " Mr. Reverie seethed. " No. " Eyan murmured and lowers his eyes. " You shouldn't. Because you didn't teach this boy enough manners to respect his sister. " Mr. Reverie turned his glare back at Toman. " You speak one more dirty word against your sister, Boy, I'll take your tongue out. Literally. " Then his gaze fell on the glass sculptures. " And I'm taking back my offer. You need to learn how to respect your sister, only then you can attend the classes. " Mr. Reverie, making Toman gasp. " I'm sorry, Mr. Reverie. I will never bad mouth about my sister. Please. Don't take your offer back. I would be honored to learn from the master. " Toman fell on his knees and begged. Geneva wished she could feel pathetic. But she was numb. It was great effort to even move her pinky. Mr. Reverie shook his legs off, and said, " First, make up for your mistake. " He grunted. Toman's chin hit the floor with a thump. And that took Geneva out from her little paralyzed state. Mr. Reverie turned his gaze towards Geneva, and it softened. " Come on, Let's go. " He said, walking closer to her. " But... But I don't understand. " Her gaze went to her parents, who were helping their son up. " Did you.... Did you sell ME? He is here not for the painting but for ME? " Geneva asked. When no one answered, Mr. Reverie shouted , " Answer her! " Toman's legs shook at the sound. Lorna gulped. It was Eyan, who answered. " Yes. He is here to take you. " " But.. why? This is your solution? " Geneva's eyes welled up. Her parents. Her own parents sold her to a man for money. She said she could work and earn but instead they sold her off after talking b*llsh*ts about her bright future. " Listen, Geneva, you need to go. We don't want any trouble like before. " Eyan blurted out, shifting his weight to right and left. Lorna eyes snapped to her husband. " What? She already knows the half truth. " Eyan shrugged a shoulder. " Like before? What do you mean? " Geneva looked at everyone in the room. " I apologize that your parents didn't tell you everything. But I'd come to take you before. " Mr. Reverie answered. Geneva's gaze snapped to him. " You apologize? I was starting to respect you! And you bought me? Am I an object to be buy? " Geneva shouted at Mr. Reverie. " Geneva, you have to go. Please. " Lorna seethed at her daughter. " Why?? Answer me, mother. " Geneva shouted. " I am not your mother. I only raised you! " Lorna's voice turned rageful. Eyan rubbed his wife's back. " What? " Geneva whispered, gasping. " Yes. We raised you with care and love. Now, pay us back. We need money. And Mr. Reverie gave us just that. So, leave with him. " Eyan said with a harsh tone. " Notice your tone, Mr. Rivers. "Mr.Reverie warned Eyan over his shoulder but jis eyes we're on Geneva's shrinking figure. " Gen... " " Don't touch me! " Geneva slapped his hand away. " You can't be like this, Geneva. We need the money. You said you would work to earn. So, you only have to work as his wife. Go with him. " Lorna begged Geneva with her eyes. Geneva sniffled. " Fine, mother. I'll pay you back. I'll work as his wife. I'll go. " Mr. Reverie's eyes sparkled with hope, and he smiled. " But let me go to the bathroom first. " Geneva said, wiping her tears. Mr. Reverie nodded his head. Geneva hid her excitement with great efforts. She just needs to get out of the house, then she can take the woods, and inform any of the wolves to tell Shaye or Devon. They'll come to take her. Geneva locked the bathroom from inside. She needed to hurry up. The bathroom's square window was enough to fit Geneva's slender body. So, she pushed her body through the window, and landed on the ground with a soft 'oomph'. She was already celebrating her little victory in her mind. She stood up from the ground, and dusted her dress. Her eyes were on her dress, scanning for dust. But soon her eyes flicked to black shiny shoes, that stepped close to her. Geneva looked up, and she met the black eyes of a tall man, looking down at her, his hands crossed, and the scar on his forehead made him seem more scary, which ran a shiver through Geneva's spine that went up to her brain, freezing her to the spot.
