I watched as Xavier walked out, his broad frame disappearing as his last words “Your daughter is already mine for a year” still echoed in my mind
I felt my chest tighten because even though I wasn’t living under the worst conditions like I expected to, a year still felt like an eternity to me, and the fact that I couldn’t do anything to get out of this made me sick to my stomach.
