Chapter 5

710 Words
Rachel's POV* I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. Sophia's presence was like a ghost from my past, one that I thought I'd left behind. I glanced at Vee and Johnson, seeing the concern etched on their faces. "Sophia, what are you doing here?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. Sophia's smile grew wider, her eyes glinting with a mixture of anger and sadness. "You know exactly why I'm here, Rachel. You've been avoiding me for far too long." I felt a surge of anxiety as Sophia's words hung in the air. I knew I had to explain, to tell them about my past and why Sophia was so angry. "Sophia and I...we were friends, once," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "We went through something together, something that changed us both." Sophia's expression twisted in anger. "You have no idea what you put me through, Rachel. You abandoned me when I needed you most." The room fell silent, the tension palpable. I knew I had to tell them the truth, to explain what happened. "Sophia and I were in a group home together," I began. "We relied on each other for support, for survival. But I left without looking back. I didn't know what happened to her after I left." Sophia's eyes blazed with anger. "You didn't know? You didn't care? I was left to pick up the pieces of my life, to deal with the aftermath of your actions." I felt a pang of guilt, knowing I had hurt Sophia deeply. But I also knew I had to protect myself. *Sophia's POV* I watched Rachel's face, seeing the guilt and regret etched on her features. It was about time she felt some of the pain she'd caused me. "You want to know what happened to me after you left?" I asked, my voice laced with venom. "You want to know how I ended up?" Rachel nodded, her eyes locked on mine. "I'm sorry, Sophia. I was young and scared. I didn't know what to do." I laughed, the sound bitter. "You didn't know what to do? You were always so self-centered, Rachel. You only thought about yourself, about your own survival." The room was silent, the tension palpable. Rachel's family looked on, unsure of what to say or do. "I was left to deal with the consequences of your actions," I continued. "I was left to pick up the pieces of my shattered life. And you know what the worst part is? You don't even remember what happened." Rachel's eyes widened, a look of realization crossing her face. "Sophia, I...I do remember," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? Do tell." Rachel's Throwback>>>>>> Rachel's hands trembled as she held Sophia, her newborn daughter, in her arms. She had been preparing for this moment, knowing she wouldn't be able to raise her child. But nothing could have prepared her for the overwhelming grief that washed over her. As she gazed into Sophia's eyes, Rachel felt a deep sense of love and responsibility. She wanted to be a good mother, to provide for her daughter's needs, to watch her grow and thrive. But she knew she couldn't do it alone. The social worker's words echoed in her mind: "You're making the right decision, Rachel. You're giving your child a chance at a better life." Rachel's heart ached as she thought about giving Sophia up for adoption. She felt like she was losing a part of herself, like she was abandoning her child. But she knew she couldn't provide the stability and security Sophia deserved. As the tears streamed down her face, Rachel whispered to Sophia, "I'll always love you, baby girl. I'll always be with you, in spirit." She kissed Sophia's forehead, memorizing the feel of her soft skin and the sweet scent of her baby smell. With a heavy heart, Rachel handed Sophia over to the adoptive parents, watching as they took her daughter away. Rachel's world shattered into a million pieces, and she was left to pick up the fragments of her broken heart. This moment would stay with Rachel forever, a bittersweet reminder of the sacrifice she made for her daughter's happiness. Throwback Ends>>>>>>>>>
