11 Changing hurt like nobody’s business, and only a werewolf without an ounce of common sense would jump up and race off when they didn’t have to, especially since every one of my muscles screamed like the dude from Psycho had taken to them with his blade. Despite it being bullshit, the pep talk Dad had given me as a teen, pre-transition, had always stuck in my mind as clear as the day he’d spoken it: ‘Remember, Son, changing to wolf is the hard part. Everything else after that is easy.’ He’d forgotten to mention that changing back stung just as much. The reversal used to bug my butt. Still does. With the initial transformation, the promise of a hunt always made the effort worthwhile. All I had to look forward to once I’d turned back was a trek home and the knowledge it would take hour
