Jess ignores Scarlet

2143 Words
Stacy had not suspected anything between Jess and Scarlet. They were at a good place and she knew that asking Jess about Scar would only cause problems between them. She decided to deliver the message as she had received it. She had guessed that Jess had gone for something to eat, she always cared about her. Stacy kept Jess’ phone on the nightstand before she tied her hair up. She wanted to take a shower before Jess got back else she would start complaining about how long she took preparing herself and putting on her make-up. However, she had always appreciated how beautiful Stacy was. “Oh, you're up already.” Jess said. She had been standing at the open door for a few seconds before she startled Stacy. “Uh, you scared me!” Stacy exclaimed, smiling at Jess. Jess fell in love with Stacy every time she looked at her. Her warm smile exposed her milk-white teeth and strands of her hair lay on her face, just as it had when she slept. “You’ve s*x-hair. Who’ve you been with?” Jess joked as she walked towards her girlfriend. “I brought some coffee and cookies.” She added as she placed the items on the motel desk. “I was with a few people while you were away.” Stacy joked as she wrapped her arms around Jess’ neck. “Oh yeah? Then I guess it’s my turn now.” Jess said, lifting her girlfriend up in the air. They were happy together. “We should get going.” Jess said. “Yeah, I was about to take a shower, maybe we should go in together,” Stacy said. She walked into the bathroom. “I can feel your eyes on my ass.” She added, throwing a towel at Jess. Jess undressed and the two girls took a shower together. “You do know we have to drive for a few hours from now, right?” Jess said when they were almost leaving the motel room. “Oh, by the way, Scarlet called you.” Stacy said when they got into the truck. “What did she want?” Jess asked. She had always let Stacy pick her calls while she was away. “Umh, I have no idea. She said that you should call her back or something.” Stacy said. As much as she would have loved to get angry over that call, she had nothing to be mad about. And she wasn’t going to let anyone ruin whatever she had going on with Jess. She was not going to ruin this trip. “Are you okay babe?” Jess asked. She had noticed something was bothering Stacy right after that. “Umh, yeah. I am alright.” Stacy said. She would have wanted to talk to Jess about it all but then there was almost nothing to talk about. They were okay. “Alright.” Jess said, trying to brush the whole Scarlet thing off. “So are you going to call her back?” Stacy couldn’t help herself anymore. She had to know. “Umh, no.” Jess said. She didn’t want to explain anything. She knew that she had messed up when she slept with Scarlet and she didn’t want the whole thing to escalate any farther. “Why not, maybe it’s something serious,” Stacy said. “I’m sure it is not. We are closed for the holidays babe. This is the time for me and you too have a good time together. We deserve this.” Jess said. She hoped that Stacy would let the whole thing go but she was determined. “Mmmh, I wonder what she’s calling about though.” Stacy continued. “Okay, I will call her when we make the next step.” Jess said. She had always had a soft spot for Stacy. “Okay, I can actually dial for you as you drive.” Stacy continued. Jess knew that she didn’t have an option. After all, she wanted to put the entire Scarlet issue behind her. “Alright.” Jess said. Stacy reached out for Jess’ phone and dialed Scarlet’s number. The phone was ringing, Jess froze. “Hey!” Scarlet’s voice came from the other end. “Oh, hello. You called me earlier.” Jess said, looking at Stacy who was paying attention, making sure that she didn’t miss a thing. “Yeah, are you alright?” Scarlet asked. “Yeah, I’m alright. What’s up?” Jess asked. She wanted to get over with the conversation. “You around?” Scarlet was asking. “Umh, no. What can I do for you?” Jess insisted “I thought you were around. Maybe we could have gone out for a drink or two.” Scarlet finally said. Jess looked at Stacy. She was a little scared of her reaction, she had never seen her roll her eyes so many times within a few minutes. She pulled the phone closer to her mouth and cautioned Jess. “So, hey Scar. This is Stacy, you know me I suppose? Now, this is what is going to happen, kindly wait for Jess until you guys go back to work. She’s busy right now, and she is also dating someone, me!” Stacy said. Jess was puzzled, she knew that Stacy loved her deeply but she didn’t expect her to do that for her. “Sorry Jess, I didn’t mean to disturb you.” Scarlet said but before she added anything to the statement, Stacy hang up on her. “What was that?” Jess asked. She didn’t know whether to smile let it go. She had never, been with someone who was willing to do that for her. “You mad about that?” Stacy asked. She hoped that Jess would not get mad over the Scarlet issue. “No, I am not mad. I am sort of impressed actually.” Jess answered. “I don’t like the way Scarlet is always on your phone.” Stacy said. She always fought for what she wanted and no one would take Jess away from her, not on her watch. “She's not always on my phone babe.” Jess said. She didn’t want to argue over anything, especially not Scarlet. “Oh, now you are defending her?” Stacy asked, turning towards Jess, who was driving. “It’s not like that.” Jess said. She didn’t say anything beyond that. She never wanted to jeopardize their peace. “Anyway, whatever it is, I will never let anyone take you away from me, unless you really want to go.” Stacy said, reaching out for Jess’ hand. She kissed her on the chic before putting on her sunglasses, leaning back on the passenger seat. “No one is taking me away and I am not going anywhere.” Jess reassured her. The day was a bit cold, even though with sunlight. Jess put music on her phone and the two drove in silence. She hoped that Stacy would forget all about Scarlet but she knew she had to do something about it. Jess drove for but three hours, during which they laughed and talked. She was tired and she knew Stacy wanted to drive to the cabin. They stopped at a gas station for about thirty minutes before they got back into the truck. Stacy was looking forward to meeting Jess’ friends. She still couldn’t believe she had friends that she had never talked about. Jess sat back, she was a little tired but she couldn’t fall asleep and leave Stacy all alone. Instead, she opened her laptop and started writing. “Babe, I thought you were not working this whole time.” Stacy said. She had been comfortable with the fact that Jess was always working even when she didn’t need to but she wanted her to enjoy her time off work. “Uh uh, I had already started writing. I just can’t help myself.” Jess said as she closed the laptop lid. She was a workaholic but she was learning how not to work all the time. Stacy had made her realize that she had been working probably more than she should have. I had been twelve months without break and now they were going camping and she still brought her laptop with her. Stacy had asked her why she needed it but she had told her that they needed movies for when they were bored. “How boring do you think this is going to be?” Stacy had asked. “I didn’t say that it is going to be boring but who knows. We might need to watch something, or some entertainment.” Jess had said. “Oh, you’re right.” Stacy had agreed with her. Jess and Tim had been in college together. They were more of the same, they shared most of their interests and thus they had gotten along well with each other. Tim had always suggested camping every December and t had become their culture, only that this time round they would be accompanied by their girlfriends and one other couple, Martin and his girlfriend. “By the way if you need to call someone you will have to do it before we get into the forest road. There is poor or no network reception at all at the cabin.” Jess warned her girlfriend who was speeding while tapping on the steering wheel. “Oh, crap!” Stacy said out aloud. “What?” Jess asked, looking at her beautiful face. “I never told anyone that I was going to be out of town and out of reach,” Stacy said as she reached for her phone on the truck’s dashboard. “Um, anyone you need to update?” Jess asked. Stacy had family in New York but didn’t talk to them much. “Shouldn’t you pull over?” Jess had always warned her girlfriend against driving while on the phone. “Yeah, you’re right.” Stacy pulled the truck over and Jess got out of the truck to stretch and allow Stacy some time to make calls. Jess scrolled through her phone and it hit her that she didn’t have anyone to call, he didn’t need to excuse herself. At that moment, she knew that were it not for Stacy, she would be leading a lonely life. She was grateful to have her. She put her phone back in her pocket and climbed back in the truck. Stacy was waiting for her. “That was quick” She said. “Well, I had to call my grandmother and wish her a Merry Christmas,” Stacy said. Stay had been born out of wedlock and her mother had left her with her grandmother who had raised her on her own. Through thick and thin, her grandma had always made sure that she was doing okay. She had not come out to her because she was sure she wouldn’t accept it. Everyone she had dated before Jess had always been upset because she was not willing to come out to everyone. It was for the same reason that she had been single for a long time before Jess came along. Jess had understood her and promised to respect her decision, which she had. Jess had never complained about it, if anything, she kept off Stacy’s private business. It was the right thing to do. “I don’t remember the last time I was this happy.” Stacy uttered as she started the engine. Jess reached out and took Stacy’s hand in hers and squeezed it. She always did that whenever she felt so emotional. She leaned for a kiss and they drove off. It would only be a few miles and they would be at the cabin. “So your friends already there?” Stacy asked. “I don’t know. They should be.” Jess answered. Jess had never been the person to keep checking on her friends. She was patient and didn’t bother to call Tim, or anyone else for that matter. Tim had always understood Jess and hadn’t expected her to call or anything. They had gotten to the cabin the previous night and were all settled up.
