Chapter 1

1092 Words
Bella POV It's been five years since our mother left us. I am now 21, and Jake is 10. I have built a life for us without our mom. I am still wondering when or if she will come back into our lives. I'm in the kitchen making us homemade waffles when I hear Jake running down the stairs yelling Happy Birthday. Yep, I am now at the legal age to go out to the dance clubs. As a matter of fact, my two besties are coming to pick me up to take me to the new club Wolves Den in Jacksonville, Florida. I feel a giant hug from behind me laughing as I flip the waffle maker. Jake, let's go and sit at the kitchen island. Over the years, I slowly transformed this old two story log cabin into a livable home for Jake and I. I read books on how to repair electrical wires, repair roof tops, fixing stairways, and redoing floors, and I got good with it. Till this day, nobody knows that our dead beat mother left us five years ago with hardly any food and definitely no money. "Jake, the Liz and Ruth are taking me out tonight, so Susan is coming over tonight to make sure you don't get into any trouble." "I am not a baby anymore, I can look after myself." he says. I lifted my eyebrow, "Really, care to explain what happened the last time I left you by yourself?" Jake sniffs, "OK, I was bored, and I hacked into Damien Black computer because he threatened us." "It's a good thing you're intelligent and hidden your data from him; otherwise, we both be sitting in a jail cell." " He deserved it." Jake replied with a smirk. I rolled my eyes at him. "I'll let stay home by yourself, but if you cause that man anymore problems, then you'll get a babysitter." I see Jake walk off, mumbling to himself on how life wasn't fair. I yelled out, "Who ever said life was fair?" I grabbed my black hair tie, pulling my curly hair into a messy ponytail. I pulled the door open, walking to my workshop where I was making a huge order of goats milk soap for a new client. I stood at the table pouring and mixing essential oil into the melted soap base. I then poured into a square mold so I could cut it into slices shrink, wrapping them so the soaps would stay clean and fresh. I look at my watch to make sure I'm keeping track. I walked over to the other part of the barn, pressing my finger on a hidden button. The panel slides open to a hidden room with all my hacker computers. I slowly sit down, turning on my computer to see if any hacking jobs are available. While waiting (don't judge, it's an old reliable computer since I was 17) I look around realizing that I needed to do a whole re-haul. Don't get me wrong, I up date my computer system every year by putting in new ram, processing system, motherboard, but my monitors I have kept. I drum my fingers waiting for the computer (it seems like forever) it only took seconds when I saw and clicked on the email reading that they would pay me two million dollars to find the hacker that broke through Wolves Den firewall. "OH Crap!" I said out loud, covering my mouth when I realized I cursed. I reached out for the intercom button, pushing it, waiting for the other person to respond. "Bell, Im in the middle of a game. What do you need?" I raised my eyebrows. " Get to the barn now!" I screamed. I hear the intercom go silent, waiting the piter pattern of his young feet. I start shaking my foot out of nervously because I'm at lost on how to get out of this mess that my brother Jake got us into. After a few minutes, I heard the barn door opening with Jake squeezing through the open door. I got up from my leather chair walking towards him. "How many times have I told you not to hack into Damien Blacks' computer?" I said angrily. Jake bites the inside of his mouth. I know he is processing on how to answer my question. Before he opens his little mouth, I respond. " He just offered me 5 million dollars to find out who is haking into his system." "Now I have to turn it down because there is no way I can get you out of this mess. You didn't leave any digital fingerprints in your viruses. Did you?" Jake glared at me as he turned around, yelling at me that he wasn't stupid. I sighed, yelling back, " I know you're not stupid, but sometimes you don't think about the consequences of your actions. Jake stopped at the barn door, his head down. With tears in his eyes, he looked up. "I'm sorry, Bella. I want do it again even if he steals our land." I gave Jake a small smile. "Is that why you keep hacking his system?" "I want to know what he's up to." Jake said softly." I inhaled deeply, breathing out deeply. "I am not going to let him buy or steel our land. I have built our acreage over the years when people started selling their land close to us. I bought them to keep us safe from the outside world." That was true, I thought since our mom had left us the last time I started several businesses. I wanted us to be independent from the outside world and protect our secret. I sat down at my desk opening up my computer. I went straight to my emails. As soon as I saw his email, I opened it and rejected his proposal of finding the hacker. I bit my lip as I turned off the computer. I glanced up at the old wooden clock on the wall, noticing that it was time to get ready for my besties to come and pick me up for our night of clubbing. As I closed the door to my secret room, I heard a distant howl smiling. I walked to the barn door, pushing it open only to see a dead rabbit by the door. I softly smiled as I picked up the dead rabbit. After 10 years, the wolf had reappeared, giving me back what I gave him ten years ago.
