"The Rival"
A week after winning the cooking competition, Liam began his culinary training.
Every morning, he entered the training kitchen with excitement. For the first time, he was surrounded by professional cooking equipment, sharp knives, large ovens, and shelves filled with ingredients.
It felt like a dream.
But Liam soon realized that becoming a chef would not be easy.
During his first class, the instructor divided the students into groups.
“This course will test your skills, discipline, creativity, and patience,” the instructor said. “Talent alone will not make you a great chef.”
Liam listened carefully.
Then someone bumped his shoulder.
“Move.”
Liam turned around.
A tall boy wearing an expensive chef's uniform stood behind him.
“I’m Adrian Cruz,” the boy said confidently. “I’ve been cooking since I was seven.”
Liam smiled politely.
“I’m Liam.”
“I know,” Adrian replied. “You’re the boy who won the school competition.”
There was something cold in his voice.
“I heard you won because your story made the judges feel sorry for you.”
Liam's smile disappeared.
“That’s not true,” he said quietly.
Adrian shrugged.
“We’ll see.”
Their first practical challenge was announced.
Each student had to prepare a dish using the same basic ingredients.
Liam immediately began planning.
He remembered his mother's cooking and decided to create a dish that was simple but full of flavor.
Adrian, meanwhile, worked quickly and confidently.
His knife moved perfectly through the vegetables.
Several students stopped to watch him.
“You're really good,” one student said.
Adrian smiled.
“I know.”
Liam ignored the distraction and continued cooking.
When the dishes were presented, the instructor tasted each one.
Finally, he reached Liam's dish.
He took a bite.
His expression changed.
“This is interesting,” the instructor said.
Liam waited nervously.
“You have something many students lack.”
“What is it, Sir?” Liam asked.
“Emotion. Your food tells a story.”
Liam smiled.
But before he could celebrate, Adrian stepped forward.
“Then let’s see if emotion can beat technique.”
The instructor looked at both of them.
“Perhaps we have found the two students who will compete most closely in this class.”
Liam looked at Adrian.
Adrian looked back.
Neither of them knew it yet, but their rivalry was about to become one of the most important parts of Liam’s journey.
And somewhere along the way, Liam would discover that not every rival was truly an enemy.
