Chapter 2: Monsters in the Forest?

1191 Words
*ZORRO SPARK* As midnight came and I made sure that Luke was sound asleep, I carefully got up from bed. Even my steps were more cautious than those thieves. I put on my coat from a hanger and grabbed a flashlight. I didn't bother to wear shoes. Anyways, I was going to the forest. Shoes were unnecessary, it would only create a noise.  As everything was fine already, I quickly zoom off, trailing into the semi-wet field. I smiled within myself, the wet field was like a cold pool, it released my feet's pressures and was giving me too much comfort. "It is really good to leave near the mountains and forests. I wish I can. I wish I can get rid of this annoying illness." As I got closer and closer to the forest, the sounds of all kinds of animals grew louder: insects, frogs, birds and weird, human voices. As if they were arguing.  Instead of being scared, I accelerated my walk even more into the forest and traversed the dark and dense forest.  I was hugging myself as I kept shifting the directions of the lights. I was really weird too because I didn't feel fear despite walking into the den of the unknown hell. "Is this what the people said a very dangerous place and has a lot of wild animals? I can't even see a mere rat." I looked up at the sky and there was nothing special to admire. There's no moon, only a few stars with a dim light.  According to heresy, also in some books, it was the best time for monsters to haunt a prey. Well, I didn't believe in monsters or beasts. To be more precise, I didn't think that there were really monsters or beasts in this world. Though, there were a lot of creatures in this world but to describe them as monsters or beasts just because of their unique appearance, for me, was completely wrong. Only those who had evil hearts were the real one. I turned around when suddenly I saw something passed next to me and created a rustling sound on the dried leaves. I followed the noise with my flashlight. I actually expected something surprising or thrilling from the noise but who would have thought it was just a golden red hare. Well, it was cute but it didn't amuse me. I prefer animals which have a unique appearance. Perhaps, a snake? A hog? A monkey? Or maybe a dragon. For me, those were the cutest ones.  My taste was indeed uncommon.  I sat on the big stone behind the bushes because at last, I felt tired. My energy was used up for nothing. I couldn't help but sneer. What a waste of my trip. I thought my trip was really a waste of time but unimaginably, I heard a yell from behind me. "Atilla, you are such a big coward. Why not fight with me huh? Be thankful that you succeeded to  d**g us, if not I already broke your neck. You are so inhuman!" The flimsy angry voice said.  Without creating a noise, I slightly brought aside those tall grasses that in fact were actually branches of flowers. I drew in my face and peeked ahead. My eyes widened in shock as to witness such cruel acts.  A young lady wearing an elegant gown with a diamond beads strangled the neck of the other, even younger girl. I couldn't see her clearly because she was blocked by the first girl. Opposite them were a group of people, with a couple hugging each other wearing a gold gown and exquisite crowns on their heads who slowly turned shabby. I assumed that these people were living under a monarchy. These weren't really the things that caught my attention but rather their pitiful situation. Everyone inside the circle of fire was now slowly getting roasted.  Although the situation was in chaos, the big luxurious castle didn't miss from my sight but it wasn't important. The important thing was what to do to save these dying people. "Spit out your dragon core now or else I will cut your body in half." The girl in the diamond gown threatened.  The younger girl that was being tied giggled like a madman. "Aunt, I really pity you. You are working so hard to get my core but sorry as long as I am breathing, I won't let you take it." "Really? Then let's see how long you can keep it." The evil girl waved her hands towards her one man and rightly, the said man ran towards her and handed a small box. She opened the box and what exposed us was a big black pill, precisely, more like a marble and it was glowing.  "Let's see if you can't spit your core after taking this--"  "Atilla, you are such a waste." A man with a dominant voice yelled.  "What did you just call me brother?" Oww, so they were actually siblings. How evil she was. Killing her own kin. "I dare you to say it again." The evil girl said. Her voice has a trace of rage.  Instead of answering her, the man chatted to the girl in front of them. "Honey, if we die, I hope you will take care of yourself, be happy and live freely. Other things are unimportant, we only wish that you will never be unhappy and never do evil things. We are so proud to have you in our life." "I told you to say it again!" The evil girl roared. Her nails suddenly grew even longer.  The man looked lovingly at the gorgeous woman next to him and they smiled contentedly to each other. In the next milliseconds, their nails grew and slashed their throat.  All things that my eyes had witnessed made me think I was dreaming. Were they really monsters? Well, even if they were. They all look gorgeous and handsome. Only thinking of it, thrilled me.  This was exciting! The girl that the man called honey earlier bawled as she saw everyone in the circle fell one by one and lost their lives. "Atilla, I am going to kill you!" "Kill me if you have ability." The evil lady faced her again.  I didn't know why but my instinct dictated me to do something. Without further thought, as I saw the evil girl trying to feed the pill to the hostage girl, I screamed.  "Watch out!" I threw a stone towards them.  Everyone got alarmed. Their attention transferred to me. Before I turned away to run, I saw the girl in hostage, mustered her strength and broke free from the chain by tightening her flesh and making it grow like a bubble. I breathed a sigh of relief. At least, my sacrifice was worth it. Even though I had no way to escape now and certainly would die, I had nothing to regret because I know I saved someone. If it was already considered saving her.  Finally, I ran back in swift to where I walked earlier because soldiers of the evil girl were chasing me. I had a weak body and been sick since young so I couldn't last a long pace. As these soldiers were about to catch me, a green dragon grabbed my collar and flew me away.
