✧ Chapter 15 – The Quiet Storm

Ariana’s world had always been silent in the wrong ways — no laughter, no warmth, only the echo of heels and polite conversations in corridors too wide for comfort.

But now, standing behind the counter of Timeless Echoes, she felt noise for the first time — the living kind. Customers talking, the creak of the old floorboards, the ticking of dozens of clocks that didn’t quite agree on time.

For once, she was not the wife of Damian Laurent.

She was simply Selene Vale — whoever that was.

The first few days had been overwhelming. The antique shop felt alive, breathing around her, filled with stories clinging to every object. When a woman came in crying over a lost pendant, Ariana found herself instinctively holding her hand.

“I’m sure you’ll find it,” she whispered.

The woman stopped crying. Her breathing steadied.

Moments later, she smiled weakly — the pain seemed to fade from her face, replaced by calm acceptance.

It was subtle, but Ariana felt it — a soft hum beneath her skin, like invisible warmth spreading through her fingers. The light in the room flickered.

When the woman left, Ariana looked down at her hands.

“What… was that?” she murmured.

She’d always been good with people, but this was different. It was as though her emotions had reached out — wrapped around the woman’s sorrow and soothed it.

Later that evening, she found a mirror hidden behind an old tapestry. Its frame was ornate, silver, almost glowing faintly under lamplight. When she looked into it, she saw her own reflection — but her eyes weren’t her own.

For a split second, she saw Selene — in her mansion — sitting by the piano, Damian’s figure blurred beside her.

Ariana gasped. The reflection flickered back to normal.

Her pulse quickened. She stumbled back, breath shallow.

The mirror stayed silent, but in the reflection, the lights behind her shimmered — as though time itself had stuttered.

Something inside her whispered, It’s beginning.
