Chapter 6 — Trial Runs

405 Words
Morning 1: Selene at the Mansion Selene stepped into the marble-floored mansion, heels clicking loudly. She took a deep breath and tried to imagine herself as Ariana — poised, graceful, composed. The housekeeper approached, a clipboard in hand. “Good morning, Mrs. Alaric. Schedule today: breakfast with the social committee, your Pilates instructor at 10, board meeting prep at 11.” Selene blinked. “Board… what now?” She spent the morning fumbling through etiquette, remembering names, learning household rules, and sneaking small rebellions — like drinking coffee straight from the pot in the kitchen instead of the silver teacup. By noon, she was exhausted but laughing silently at how rigid and suffocating the world of perfection could be. Yet a part of her felt a thrill — the thrill of stepping into someone else’s shoes, walking in another life, even if only for a day. ⸻ Morning 1: Ariana at the Shop Meanwhile, Ariana walked into Timeless Echoes, a bag of groceries in one hand and a determined smile on her face. Selene’s messy counter, stacked boxes, and faintly dusty shelves overwhelmed her at first. “Alright,” Ariana muttered, rolling up her sleeves. “If she can do this, so can I.” Her first challenge: dealing with a suspicious buyer who demanded to see the provenance of a silver necklace. Ariana’s hands shook as she tried to negotiate — not used to haggling, arguing, or asserting herself. By the afternoon, she had successfully convinced the buyer, arranged a new shipment, and even found the courage to call Luca — Selene’s former partner — for clarification on the scam. Selene’s chaotic, independent life was exhausting, yet liberating. For the first time, Ariana felt alive in her own skin. ⸻ Evening: Debrief Selene and Ariana met at a quiet café to compare notes. Selene was exhilarated. “Your world… it’s suffocating. But you move through it like you’re made of silk.” Ariana smiled tiredly. “Your world… it’s messy, unpredictable, and terrifying. But I… I like the feeling of control I never had before.” Selene leaned back, smirking. “So, we survive day one. Tomorrow gets harder.” Ariana nodded. “And… I think we might learn more about each other — and ourselves — than we ever imagined.” Both women laughed again, unaware that the next days would bring temptation, betrayal, and emotional entanglements neither of them were ready for.
