Sierras POV
After Dillon and Max were detained me and Sarah were lost. I wasn't sure how things could have gotten this bad. Why did I have to be special. I mean I always wanted to be but I had never really thought about the repercussions of being special. The first day after Max and Dillon were detained me and Sarah didnt leave our bedroom.
The next day though I decided we needed to get out before our depression took us to far. Sarah wasn't thrilled when I dragged her out of our room and to the medical hall but she came anyways. Mom put us to work immediately having us change bandages. Sarah and I worked making good progress.
I was cutting the seaweed wrap and not really paying attention kind of just going through the motions and managed to knock myself. Blood dripped off me and onto my patient an older man who had a large wound on his tail that wasn't wanting to seal up. As soon as my blood hit the wound the wound started knitting together the way it would for us.
My cut was already healed if it hadn't been for how deep I cut I wouldn't have even bled enough to drip on the older man. But if I hadn't I wouldn't be witnessing my blood healing his wound. "Mom!" I yelled.
"Yeah, what is it?" mom asked as she walked over and gasped when she seen his tail already half healed. "How is that possible?" she asked.
"I accidentally cut myself not paying attention and when my blood hit his wound it started healing." I explained. "Mom I know we won't be able to heal everyone but you can draw blood from all three of us and the worst wounds could be healed today." I said excited. There were still a lot of injured merpeople especially elderly merpeople who healed way slower.
"With the approaching war this could be a game changer," mom said already making plans.
Turns out with our advanced healing we were able to give more blood in a single day than an average mermaid. Meaning mom healed and emptied half the medical hall. Tomorrow wed give more blood and everyone should be healed then we'd start putting blood supplies back so that when the war hit we'd be able to heal people and get them back out there. Being helpful and needed was just what I needed to get out of my depression and it seemed to be helping Sarah too.
After giving blood mom said we could leave cause she wouldn't need as much help now. So we decided to go with Kierra down to the dungeon to visit Dillon and Max. It smelled terrible down here and with all the merpeople who had been imprisoned down here in just the matter of yesterday and today it was loud. The cells were half filled ten people to a cell except for Dillon and Max who were at the front and by themselves.
Dillon and Max immediately swam to us hugging us through the bars of the cells. "I miss you so much," I told Dillon.
"I miss you too, don't worry your dad came down earlier and said the sea witch is on her way and should be here tonight to try to strat reversing the spell. She thinks she will have a potion ready before tomorrow night so I'll be with you soon." Dillon told me. I nodded putting my fingers through his blonde hair. It was so soft and he leaned into my hand.
"Tomorrow night couldn't come soon enough." I told him.
"I'm so sorry Sarah. I never meant to betray you I just wanted to protect you. I was going to kill Lyla and you would be safe but I realized you'd never forgive me if your family was hurt and I just didn't know what to do," I heard Max tell Sarah he was pleading with her to forgive him. He didn't know she had forgiven him the second she heard what he had done and hid from her.
"It's okay, I forgive you, I love you. I have always loved you Max." Sarah said. Max blew out a breath and seemed to relax a bit. I smiled at them knowing they would one day make a cute couple when this was all over.
Suddenly Kierra was yanking me away from Dillon and then grabbed Sarah from Max. She pulled us completely out of their reach and before I could ask why I heard Lyla.
"Let me through I want to see him! I have to see him!" Lyla was screaming at a guard. Sarah immediately placed herself in front of the door waiting for Lyla. As Lyla approached obviously forcing her way threw the guards Sarah and Kierra blocked her. "Where is he? Where is Max!" Lyla screamed.
Behind us Max and Dillon started slamming into their caged walls trying to break out. They couldn't help it the spell was at work. I whimpered watching Dillon slam over and over against the cell hurting himself in an attempt to get out of the cell. "You can't get near him Lisa put him under a spell he will kill you if you get near him," Sarah told Lyla.
"I don't believe you Lisa came and told me you'd try to keep us apart that mom lied about his death to prevent me and him from being together!" Lyla squealed.
"Lyla listen to Sarah she's telling you the truth Lisa is the evil sea witch. She sent you here to die so we could take over your army." Kierra tried to reason with Lyla.
"No! You're lying Lisa would never do that!" Lyla began screaming again. She was interrupted when Sarah slapped her across the face.
"Listen Lyla!" Sarah screamed at her. Trying to get her to understand the reality of the situation. Lyla looked at Sarah like she was going to kill her I grabbed Sarah throwing her behind me. While Lyla was distracted Kierra grabbed her and put her the same large metal cuffs she had put on Dillon.
"Until you stop trying to get to Max, who will kill you, and listen to us your going to have to stay in these." Kierra said pulling Lyla out of the dungeon. Me and Sarah followed after them all the way to the main hall were Mitch was.
"What in the ocean?" Mitch said as Kierra dragged a thrashing Lyla before him.
"Well Lyla's here now so I'd say we need to prepare the army. The artic army will be here shortly." Kierra said nonchalantly.
"I understand that. But why is Lyla chained up?" Mitch said.
"Because she tried to attack Sarah and refused to stay away from Max. You know I wouldn't have let Kierra chain up someone for no reason," I told Mitch. He looked at me as if he hadn't realized me and Sarah had come in the room. Honestly he probably hadn't noticed considering the still thrashing Lyla.
"Lyla I'm going to need you to calm down." Mitch told her calmly.
"I have to see Max! Where is Max!" Lyla screamed. It was then that I realized she was acting similar to Dillon who had been slamming into the cage.
"She's under a spell." I said quietly.
"What?" Sarah and Kierra asked at the same time.
"She's under a spell." I said loudly then explained. "Dillon was slamming into the cell and now Lyla is thrashing and trying to get to Max. Think about it she's not been here since she was little right? So how else would she know where to go unless she's under one of Lisa's spells!" I yelled over top of the screaming Lyla.
"That's true it definitely makes sense." Mitch said. "Kierra take her and lock her in the furthest cell from Max and Dillon. Guards go with her and make sure she in a cell alone I'll have the sea witch look at all three of them when she gets here tonight." Mitch ordered.
Pulling Sarah with me I swam to the kitchen. We definitely needed to get our minds off of everything. In the kitchen Sarah was the pro and I followed her lead. She showed me how to cut and clean the fish and debone them. Since Sarah had come we started eating meals that looked fit for humans. Even though the meat was raw. I remember the first day she told us we may have some animal instincts but we were still half human too.
Working in the kitchen definitely distracted Sarah she was smiling watching me fumble along. It took a few hours to make enough food for everyone and I was glad when we were done. We went and ate with everyone and that when the depression hit both of us again. Dillon and Max should be with us but instead they were imprisoned and all because of Lisa.
Right now I should have been enjoying my senior year if high school. Dillon should be in college. We should be going in dates and living a normal life. Instead we were fighting in a war against Dillons mom who had been doing everything she could to ruin our lives and all for power of a world I once dreamt of existing.
Days like today made me wish my family could have been humans. None of this would have happened if we were humans instead of merpeople. But I wouldn't give up my family for anything now.
Right after dinner the sea witch came and I was surprised to hear Sarah's excited squeal. "Mary!" She yelled flinging herself at the older woman. Mary had grey hair blue eyes a tan skin and a purple tail. She smiled lovingly at Sarah and I finally realized who she was. This was Sarah's nanny. "What are you doing here?" Sarah asked not putting two and two together with all of her excitement.
"I'm here to help Max and Dillon. I'm a sea witch." Mary told Sarah with a small smile.
"Really how come you never told me?" Sarah asked with a look of hurt.
"It was a secret, I reached out to Mitch as soon as you left I've been close since." Mary explained.
"I'll show you to them and we have another problem to discuss," Mitch said pulling our attention away from Mary.
Kierra grabbed me and Sarah before we could follow after them. "It's not safe and we have things to discuss. The artic army will be here any minute I have to show you guys where to hide when they come." Kierra said.
"I'm not hiding I can fight and I can help in the medical hall mom is going to need my help." I told her sternly. Kierra looked at me trying to see if she could reason with me.
Sighing she finally gave in. "Fine Sarah you'll have to stay with mom and Sierra in the medical hall then. They'll definitely need help I'll send half my trained guards across the area." Kierra said.
I had been so absorbed in myself I hadn't noticed that I hadn't seen Char since his mission to go to the cave. "Kierra where is Char?" As soon as I asked Kierra tensed up.
"He was ambushed by Lisa she had left some people at the cave. Char had went in alone for Poseidon knows what reason. He convinced them he wanted to join Lisa's cause he's been sending messages the army should be here tomorrow. Lisa thinks he's on her side but he's our very own spy right now. He took eight soldiers and has sent back four with messages. I don't how he convinced Lisa to let him but it's probably gonna save us." Kierra explained.
Seeing her hurt I realized how selfish I had been. I hadn't even realized she was going through this. I should have known but I had been blocking out our connection so she wouldn't feel my pain not realizing I was blocking out her pain too. "I'm so sorry Kierra!" I told her grabbing her for a hug.
"It's okay he's safe, and will be back tomorrow and Max and Dillon should be out tomorrow too. We will win this we just have to stay strong and be vigilant." Kierra said. With that I nodded and followed as Kierra led me and Sarah grabbing her guards to go to the medical hall.
