Moving on

Chapter 9

The day of the gala has arrived. Laura was wearing an off shoulders red gown that reached her feet .it has a slight on the side so it showed her toned legs, she paired it with a black high heels and a necklace to bring attention to her neck area. Her makeup was simple leaving just the red lipstick to catch the attention. She looked at the mirror and was stunned with her appearance. She looked gorgeous, she felt a booze of confidence  and she smiled. Hopefully Colton will like her appearance too.

The door bell sounded. Laura took a deep breath trying to calm her nerves. She walked slowly towards the door, and opened it. To say that the man who stood in front of her was dashingly handsome won’t do him justice. She couldn’t help herself as she checked him.

Colton was speechless at the sight of Laura, he always thought that she was beautiful, but when he saw her wearing that dress she looked dangerously sexy. His mouth opened and closed for several times not able to say a word .the perfect red lipstick that caught his eyes first when she opened the door made him feel a bit guilty about what he was planning to do next.

“I’m sorry I will ruin you lipstick” before she can utter a word, he reached for her neck and dipped his head so he could kiss her. His hands touched her everywhere. He backed her towards the apartment, and closed the door without breaking the kiss, he started kissing her exposed shoulders, and she closed her eyes at the feeling of his lips on her shoulders.

 The ringing of her phone broke them apart, they were both breathing heavily. Her head was dizzy from the kiss. And Colton’s eyes were clouded with desire.

“Your phone is ringing” Colton groaned. She headed towards her purse and retrieved her phone. It was Cassie.

“Yeah” she breathed trying to catch her breath.

“By the sound of you, the dress that I chose did the trick”

“What trick?” Laura asked .

“Did you do it? I mean I didn’t go through all this trouble just so you guys don’t have s*x” Cassie chirped.

“Bye Cassie” Laura hissed, a blush taking over her face.  If she didn’t call, they would have done it she guessed.

She turned slowly towards Colton, and found him sitting on the sofa grinning , a bit of lipstick smudged on his lip, she giggled

“What?” he quirked an eyebrow

She took a tissue and started wiping his lip “there’s some lipstick on your lips” she chuckled

He pecked her lips. She giggled

“Stop, we will be late for the event” she put her hand on his lips as he tried to kiss her one more time. She tried to glare at him but failed. He licked her hand on his lips.

“Eww Colton that’s gross” she swapped her hand from his lips and glared at him. He chuckled

“You look gorgeous” he said with a smile stretched on his face. She blushed at his compliment

“Thank you .You cleaned up pretty well yourself “she said.

“Let’s go” and they both got out of her apartment.

When they arrived to the destination, Laura was astounded, there was paparazzi at the entrance .  The Place where the event was taking place looked like a mansion. She suddenly felt anxious about going out there, and started fidgeting her fingers. Colton noticing her discomfort and put his hand on hers and squeezed it.

“Don’t worry. I’m here with you. I won’t leave you alone” she attempted to smile but it looked forced. He got out of the car, and circled it so he can open her door. He stretched his hand for her to take it and slide her out of the car. He squeezed her hand one more time before starting walking towards the entrance.

Laura took a deep breath trying to ease her nerves. She never liked events, when she was living with her parents. They would always urge her to go with them to attend events. She met her ex-husband nick on one of those events. Remembering her husband just made her feel worse than what she already was feeling. Colton was occasionally stopped by some men to greet him. They settled on a table with a couple of people. They seem to know Colton as they greeted him. He introduced her as his girlfriend which made her blush when the attention turned to her. She wasn’t keen of attention. In fact in events like these, Laura will always try to find a spot so she could sit alone.

“I will leave you alone for about 5 minutes so I can give my speech, and then I’m all yours” Colton winked at her. She nodded her head and smiled.

“I can introduce you to the man I‘m going to work with tonight if it’s okay with you” Colton added.

Remembering the nick he was going to work with. Laura felt uneasy again. She didn’t want to meet him of fear that he will end up being her ex, but a part of her wanted to meet him to ensure her that he wasn’t her ex-husband. Not trusting her voce Laura gave him a week smile and nodded her head.

The event passed slowly and if it wasn’t for Colton, she would already have left. When the time came so Colton give his speech, he pecked her lips and she whispered a good luck.

When Colton stood on the stage looking as confident as ever, her heart skipped a beat as he looked that dashing. After finishing his speech he spent some time talking with some men and then he headed towards her.

“You were so good at the stage” Laura said to him smiling.

“Thanks darling. I hope the event didn’t bore you” she shook her head still smiling. Colton’s eyes drifted towards something behind her and nodded his head.

“I want you to meet someone I’m about to work with. He will be a huge benefit my company”

She felt a presence behind her, and she suddenly felt a pit in her stomach, she slowly turned around and came face to face with her ex-husband nick. Her eyes grew wide, and her mouth opened and closed several times not able to utter a word. Her gut was right all the time.it was her ex husband

Laura’s back was to Colton so he didn’t see her reaction. However nick stood there smirking as if he knew that she will be there. He smirked to her and held out his hand.

“hello I’m nick ” he said still smirking, Laura was frozen on her spot,  she stood there staring at him not believing that he was standing in front of her. He quirked his eyebrow and drift his gaze between her and his hand. Colton stood next to her and put his arm around her waist and looked quizzically at her

“Are you okay?” Colton asked her. Laura got out of her trance and nodded her head. She shook her hand with nick’s , as she was about to withdraw her hand, he squeezed it and took it to his lips and kissed it Laura shuddered in disgust but to nick it looked like she shuddered from desire.

“Nice to meet you Laura” nick said looking intently at her, his gaze turned to Colton and smiled heartily “she is such a beautiful lady Colton. Are you two together” he asked trying to feign innocence.

“Yeah she’s my girlfriend” colon chuckled, and pecked her on the temple. Nick narrowed his eyes upon seeing the gesture.

Colton’s phone rang and, he excused himself to answer the call. Nick took the time to drag Laura to an alley far from people. She struggled to free herself from his grasp but he held her tightly and she hissed at the pain shot through her arm.

“Leave me alone “Laura hissed at him. She didn’t want to make a scene, but she didn’t want him to take her anywhere.

“Shut up. I just want to talk to you “he glared at her. Finding a quiet alley at the back he took her there and stopped.

“What do you want?” Laura crossed her arms.

“I’ve been trying to reach you, but you changed your phone number” he scowled at her;

“so what? I don’t to talk to you. How dare come here after everything you did. Colton told me that you were looking for an interior designer for your sister. Which by the way you don’t have one” she narrowed her eyes

“It was the only excuse I could think about so I could see you again. I saw the way you reacted when you saw me. You still love me don’t you?” he chuckled lowly. Laura looked at him in disbelief.

“No, I stopped loving the day I spot you cheating on me”

“Please Laura you know that I’m a man. I have needs” he said as matter of a fact

“I don’t want to talk about this, just leave me alone”

“So you can go back to Colton. That man” he shook his head smiling” Does he now that you were married? That you were married to me his future investor” when Laura stayed silent, his smirk widened. “Oh no. Poor Colton doesn’t know that his girlfriend Laura was married. What a shame if I tell him that”

“Don’t try to threaten me” she took a threatening step towards him.

“I’m not threatening you. I’m just wondering what his reaction will be when he knows that his future investor used to be his girlfriend’s husband” he feigned a look of innocence.

“Maybe I shouldn’t invest in his company anymore”. Her eyes widened. Colton’s company was too precious to him. She remembered Colton’s words that nick’s investment will be beneficial to his company. She sighed in defeat

“I can’t believe I married someone like you. What do you want? I’m sure you want something in order to keep your mouth shut” she whispered.

“Oh darling you grew more intelligent than the last time I saw you “he chuckled. “I will call you. Make sure to answer my call” he smirked at her, and walked away. His phone next to his ear

“So?” the person on the other line said

‘I got her .Let’s start the plan.” he replied.
