Moving on

chapter 7

Colton and Laura were walking hand in hand, both lost in their own thought. A sudden thought crossed her mind and she tugged on his hand to make Colton stop.

“I remember the day we first met in my office. You were nice and then after we shook hands you changed. What was that?” she asked, he was opening and closing his eyes not knowing how to answer her.

“I don’t know what you are talking about” he replied without looking at her, and she knew that he was lying

“C’mon Colton tell me” she urged him. After a couple of seconds of debating whether he should tell her or not. He eventually decided to be honest with her. He didn’t want to answer her and make a fool of himself, he said to himself, but her soft eyes made him change his mind

“When I shook your hand, I felt something I’ve never felt before .it was like electricity shot through my hand. I instantly knew that I was attracted to you ” looking at her squarely in her eyes, he raised his hand and stroked her cheek

“I felt it too” she leaned her head more into his hand. The air grew intense between them. They were in their bubble, not caring about anything, he started leaning towards her. she licked her lips in anticipation and closed her eyes. She felt his breath near her lips, but instead of kissing her on the lips he kissed her on the head, she instantly opened her eyes and looked at him with questioning eyes

“Why do you always kiss me on my head on not on my lips?” she sounded exasperated but she didn’t care, she wanted him to kiss her.

“I don’t want to rush you. I feel like you’re not ready for me to kiss you yet” he smiled gently at her still stroking her cheeks.  His face was still next to her, her eyes drifted to his lips, and not able to resist the temptation anymore. She rose on her tip toes and kissed him .it was a sweet and simple kiss, which lasted long enough for them to be out of breath by the end of it. His arms were snaked around her, and she was running her hand through his hair.

“So this means that you’re going on another date with me” his voice was hoarse as he chuckled. She leaned her head back and laughed. It was like a melody for Colton’s ears.

“Yeah I agree. It turns out that you’re not a bad date” she teased him. Her eyes were twinkling of amusement. He smiled at her and kissed her another time.

They arrived to her apartment, he walked her to her door and opened it ,she got out of the car, and stood in front of him

“Thank you for today, it was fun” .She smiled brightly at him, Colton looked adoringly at her. He couldn’t believe that he get to spend time with such a beautiful soul. He leaned his head against hers 

“Yeah me too I enjoyed tonight, umm Laura will you be my girlfriend? “He whispered the last part, as if he was afraid to scare her, his eyes were closed, and due to that he missed the grin that played on her face as she heard him

“Yeah, my pleasure” That was all it took him to pull her face and kiss her. This time it was more passionate, she put her hand against his chest and felt his heart beating fast and she was happy that she could affect him that much. Sensing that the kiss must lead to something more, she pushed him gently away from her. They were both breathing hard.

“People usually kiss just once on the first date” Laura chuckled. She didn’t mind it though

“Well it took me only two weeks to ask you out, so we’re not like other people” he replied with a smile. “I better go” he kissed her head this time, and waited for her until she entered her building, then he drove away.

Laura entered her apartment, stripped from her clothes and took a long soothing bath. She sent a quick text to Cassie letting her know about how the day went. She instantly replied to her stating that she will visit her tomorrow to catch up even though they just met.

Just as she was about to sleep, she received a message from Colton

“Thank you for tonight” she grinned as she read the message.

“I’m the one who should thank you .Good night”

“Good night sweetheart “was his reply. And then sleep claimed her.

The next day Cassie came to Laura’s office and she started filling her about the date’s details

“Did you tell him about nick?”

“No I couldn’t”

“Why” Cassie couldn’t understand why Laura was so hesitant about telling Colton. 

“I don’t know. What if he looks down at me or pities me. You know that I hate people’s pity”

“Who will pity?” Came a voice from her office’s door. Laura jerked her head towards the voice and came face to face with a set of brown eyes looking at her inquiringly. Nobody dared to speak. Colton was looking straight at her and she didn’t dare to divert her gaze from him. She was battling inside of her to tell him about her divorce. Cassie butted in to lessen the tension and strode towards Colton and held her hand

“Hello I’m Cassie, Laura’s best friend” she chirped. Colton broke his gaze and looked at Cassie

“Nice to meet Cassie.I’m Colton Laura’s boyfriend” Laura’s heart warmed at she heard him call her girlfriend.

“Okay I better go” she went to retrieve her purse next to where Laura stood. She kissed her cheek and whispered to her

“Tell him before it’s too late”

“Hey why did you come here” Laura asked hoping that he forgot about it.

“What were you talking about who will pity you?” he narrowed his eyes as if he knew that she was trying to change the subject

“It’s a long story, nothing to worry about though. So tell me why did you come here?” Colton sensed that she didn’t want to talk about it. So he dropped it.

“Don’t I have the right to visit my girlfriend? “ He teased her. A smile stretched on her face. She still wasn’t able to believe that they were indeed in a relationship.

“I’m working. You can’t just barge in my office anytime you want” she tried to keep a stern face to look serious. Colton’s smile faltered and was about to apologize. But Laura couldn’t contain the laugh that escaped her.

“OMG…YOU …you should have seen your face. God Colton I was just kidding” he stared at me with wide ayes for a moment. Then his eyes narrowed at me.

“Babe you shouldn’t do this to me.” His voice was low, threatening, as he slowly strode towards her. She took steps back to keep some distance between them but eventually she was caught by the wall.

“Colton” it came out as a warning. But it only urged him to fasten his footsteps.

“Hmm...” he hummed. As he reached her, he put his arms on the wall. Her head was between them. His eyes held hers, and she gulped at seeing the intensity in them.

“What... What are you doing” she stuttered. Her face was in flams at the proximity of his face…

“I want to kiss you” he whispered to her.

“We’re in the office. It won’t be appropriate” she breathed. She tried to convince herself more than him. She didn’t know what he was doing to her. She couldn’t seem to contain herself when he was around. His lips brushed hers slightly, and she closed her eyes ready for him to kiss her. They heard a loud slam that made them both jump apart. They turned towards the source of the noise, and they found her assistant standing on the doorway, holding her hand on her mouth. There was a tray lying next to her feet and some shattered pieces of mugs.

“I’m so sorry… I... I knocked and I thought that you were working so you didn’t hear me .I…I am really sorry” her assistant looked at the verge of crying.

“No need to apologize Lisa. It’s no big deal .are you okay? Did you hurt yourself? ” she reached her to look if she hurt herself.

“I’m okay, nothing happened to me” Lisa mumbled looking at her feet not daring to look at  them.

“You can go. I will call Samantha to clean this “she touched her shoulders in compassion. Lisa only nodded and got out of the office.

“See what you’ve done?” she turned to look at Colton who was smirking. She put her hand on each side of her waist trying to look intimidating.

“What? Is it my fault now?” he rolled his eyes

“Yes” she exclaimed.

“It’s not like you didn’t want to kiss me too” her face turned crimson. A smile stretched on his face at seeing her discomfort.” Anyway I’m late to work. I missed you and decided to surprise you, but it feels like my presence is unwanted” he said sadly ,but he was just messing with her. He started heading towards the doors brushing her shoulders as he passed her. She stopped him by the elbow.

“Colton I didn’t mean it, I was just messing with you” she told him. His gaze darted back and forth trying to memorize her beauty, he nuzzled his face in her neck and whispered

“Karma is a b***h babe” He gave a long kiss on her neck, and disappeared out of the office.

Laura was smiling like an i***t. She put her fingers on the spot where he kissed her, trying to memorize the feeling of his lips on her neck.
