Mother's threat

1215 Words
“Ciara is nowhere to be found.” He stated with a small sigh afterward. “Well, I suppose she left.” “What do you imply with the aid of using ‘she left’? Just like that and for no cause whatsoever?” The voice thundered and Ryan was compelled to take the phone off his ear, the voice was loud sufficient to harm his ear drum. It was his mother, who was on the phone. Ryan sighed heavily when he realized her voice trailed off before placing the phone to his ear again. “I do not know why she left, but I got back home from work as regular and found out she's gone.” He informed his mother plainly, sounding more like it was a day by day habitual between himself and Ciara. “I tried reaching her, but it seems like she did not only go away but blocked me from gaining access to her.” Ryan's mother was angered on the opposite line, she understood something was fishy. This, she's certain of. Ciara may not just determine to leave on her own without any reason. Clearly, there must be something Ryan is aware of behind her sudden evacuation from the house but decided not to say anything about it. “Ryan…" She called out to him, her voice was as hard as steel. “What now, mom?” He muttered in an ugly tone, he knew his mother must be suspicious for her to call his name all of a sudden; however, he cared less about whatever suspicion she is probably having. “Why do I sense like there may be something you are not telling me, Ryan?” She uttered, more like she was trying to make him spill whatever he might be having on his mind. He rolled his eyes at her phrase before replying. “Something I am not telling you?” He asked, as a substitute, repeating her question in place of an answer to it. “Oh, something like what?” “You don't inquire from me that kind of question when you understand what I mean.” She hissed loudly in reply, a trail of anger visible in her voice. Ryan sensed her anger was already rising. “Look here, mom —” He stated simply. “I don't know, must have made you consider I've done something to her, or I might be the motive behind her unexpected disappearance, but whatever you might be thinking right now, I know nothing about it.” His mother scoffed with so much irritation in it. “—and you count on me to believe you, isn't it, Ryan?” She blurted out. “You expect me to believe such a blunder lie from you, right?” “Why not, mom?” He asked back, fielding her query with another of his. “I'm your son, you are expected to believe whatever I say and not bluntly agree with a stranger's rash choice over me.” “A stranger, eh? She wasn't, no stranger anymore, she's your wife.” She was nearly yelling, his reply pissing her off greatly. “Ah —my wife, huh? I see…" He mouthed with a trail of mockery in his tone. “The same wife I was compelled to be with, the same wife who was bind to me through contract, and you continue to call her my wife? Really, mom?” “I don't care about whatever you might be insinuating, but she is and will be your wife.” She told him in a stern tone. “—bind by settlement or not, you ought to see as one.” “Argh…" Ryan groaned lowly under his breath, rubbing his temple continuously. “I don't know how much longer I'll be able to hold my anger if you still insist on the phrase that she is my wife, mom.” “You do not talk to your mother that way, Ryan, you don't.” She uttered with an air of command in her voice. Ryan had to refrain himself not to hiss at her words, he locates it irritating to the ears. “How nice am I meant to talk to the same mother who had been against my happiness all these while. The same mother who had…" She interrupted his outburst angrily, trying to cut him off his rant. “Shut up, Ryan…" She growled at him, but it was just not sufficient to cut him off as she intended. “—denied me of my right else I do as she pleased like I'm her puppet without being concerned whether her decision would hurt me or not.” He continued, almost yelling on the phone. “How pleasant do I talk to her, mom? Tell me, how do I talk to her, then?” Ryan's mother tried not to be stricken by his outburst. “You expect me to give in to your silly obsession all in the name of happiness?” She said, in a not-so-surprising tone because it came out as hard as steel. “The same obsession that would hurt you hard in the end.” “It's not an obsession, mom. It is not…" Ryan muttered in a drawling tone, his breath anxiously growing heavier. “I was never obsessed with Anne, not even for once. I love her, I always do.” Ryan's mother laughed on the phone, her laughter growing louder for a few seconds, however, she unexpectedly stopped like she wasn't guffawing a moment before. “I can see you are nevertheless blind by the equal obsession of yours, most time, you ought to look past what you see.” She told him —more like she was trying to lecture him. She was already confused on how best to make him see reasons with her. ‘Look beyond what you see, my foot…’ he scoffs inaudibly, under his breath. “There is nothing to look beyond, mom.” He muttered icily, emphasizing on his words. “I ain't blind, I can see clearly.” “You can or not, I would rather not see Anne anywhere around that house, Ryan.” She uttered authoritatively. “Not even mistakenly, do you hear me?” “But why —” he finds himself whining at her words. Ryan was holding on to himself not to think otherwise of her —not when she claimed to love him but won't stop hurting him in every way, all for shielding him. “Why are you so against her this much?” It sounded like his voice melt down and wasn't as hard as it was a few moments ago. “You dare not go against my words, Ryan —you understand the penalty for it if you do.” She threatened him. It was not just an empty threat or sort. She meant every of her words and Ryan, on the other hand, is aware of this too. No matter how much he wanted to go in opposition to her words and commands, he realized he simply couldn't, knowing how much he's going to pay for it —his mother by no means makes empty threats nor goes back on her words.
