Raya doesn’t answer my question, but she doesn’t have to. I’m pretty sure I’ve put it all together anyway.
When the Faceless woman mentioned ‘the prince and his mate,’ referring to Raya, I thought she was simply confused, as everyone else did. But when she explained further, when she told us about receiving a warning from Yvette’s mother that referred to ‘the son of the king and his mate’ – not the prince, but the son of the king - things became a lot clearer.
Dozens of little moments I had disregarded suddenly ran back through my mind, seen in a completely different light.
There were things from my past, such as the way the king took me under his wing throughout my whole life but especially after my father died, and the way other men had always submitted
