I barely have time to appreciate the fact that Bertie is going to be okay before the life of someone else I love is threatened.
Just as my men finally manage to break the door down and rush to our aid, the Faceless woman, who still looks exactly like me, grabs hold of Raya. Her sword glints dangerously as she holds it to Raya’s neck, and I shout out the order to stand down.
“Halt! Nobody move!”
The soldiers hear the words from me, but they see the other version of me too, the one that is holding Raya hostage, and confusion flickers across their faces.
We are walking on a knife’s edge here; or a sword’s edge, as the case may be. After what has just happened, I know all too well the dangers of mistaking one person for another, and with more people in the
