Avelin howls in my head as Yvette places her hand in mine, and I see Yvette's wolf flash in her eyes too. Energy flows between us, sealing the bond we’ve agreed to in accordance with some ancient rite I don’t quite understand, forged in the earliest days of our bloodlines.
I would have to go a lot further back into the past to know where and how this bond started, but right now, all that matters is that it does exist and that Yvette is now my protector. Our futures are intertwined, as perhaps they were always meant to be.
Yvette’s eyes return to their normal color as she inhales deeply, looking both surprised and a little impressed. “Well, now I know what my gift is, but I can’t say I fully understand it.”
