Mandy wandered around the big house in confusion. It was already 12:30pm and she hadn't gotten to the place she was expected to be in, Craig's room. She didn't see other maids around, they were probably working. She continued to look around as if the answers were written in the air. Suddenly, she saw Mr Maurice walking around, probably inspecting something. She gave out a sigh of relieve and ran towards him.
"Good afternoon Mr Maurice" Mandy said, announcing her presence. Sir Maurice turned and immediately he saw her, he gave her a puzzled look.
"Aren't you supposed to be in Mr Craig's room? What on earth are you still doing here?" Mr Maurice asked sternly.
"I don't know where to find Mr Craig's room, no one told me. I have been looking for someone to ask and luckily I found you" Mandy said with a smile. When she noticed Mr Maurice wasn't pleased by her tardiness, she immediately withdrew her smile.
"Mr Craig stays at the top floor's west wing. And i don't expect this from you next time" Mr Maurice warned Mandy. Mandy nodded and splinted off to the stairs in excitement. Finally, she wasn't just going to see a man who is just like a celebrity, she was also going to work for him. Excitement mixed with nervousness filled her body with each step she took on the elegant stairs.
Craig was sitting at a corner in his large but unkept room. He was looking through the window panes with a lighted cigarette on his lips, he inhaled deeply and let out a puff which clouded his face. Just at that moment, he heard a knock on the door which was far behind him. Then suddenly, Mandy walked into the room. Craig turned and to his dismay, it was a smallish redhead girl who walked in.
"Good afternoon please I am looking for Mr Craig" Mandy greeted with a smile on her face.
"Who are you?" Craig asked, his voice showed visible signs that he was irritated.
"Oh, I am the new personal maid for Mr Craig. And who are you?" Mandy asked in so much enthusiasm. She didn't look hard enough to know that the man in front of her was Craig. Craig on the other hand looked at Mandy from head to toe. He didn't try to hide the fact that he disliked the young girl.
"Young lady, get out of this place immediately" Craig said sternly. Mandy gave him a puzzled look, she didn't understand why this stranger was being unreasonable to her.
"Uhmmm why should I do that? I came looking for Mr Craig, this order came specifically from....." Mandy said before she was sternly interrupted.
"I am Craig and I am telling you to get out of this room!" Craig screamed. Mandy was just standing there. Her legs were too weak to make a move, her lips became too heavy to utter any sentence. She just stared wide-eyed at the man who just called himself Craig Anderson. She had seen him on magazines and TVs and she recalled crushing on him, his face and physique was one to behold. But what she was seeing right in front of her was scary. She tried to wave it off as some lie but it wasn't. She looked calmly and closely into his eyes and immediately she gasped. It was indeed Craig Anderson.
"Sorry sir, I didn't know" Mandy apologised.
"Just get out of my face you fool" Craig said as he turned back towards the window. Mandy was distraught. She wasn't just distraught by the way Craig had spoken to her. She was shocked at the way he looked and everything scared her. She immediately ran out of the room frantically. She shut the door behind her and began to pant heavily.
"What happened? Is he suffering from some mental illness or something? And why is he on a wheelchair?" Mandy asked herself frantically as her eyes darted at every corner. She was trying to process everything that was happening slowly and finally it hit her. The reason for the contract she signed, the confidentiality and the forceful retainment. Mandy shut her eyes in pain.
"s**t! What have I gotten myself into?" She remarked, Mandy shook her head frantically.
"No, I don't think I can do this. This dude will eat me alive" Mandy said to herself and immediately tried to head of the stairs but something stopped her. Despite her fears of working for Craig, a scarer reminder popped up. She would be thrown out of this mansion and that spelt doom for her. Strangely, she began to understand why her madam made her sign a contract. Mandy didn't know what had happened to Craig but she had the feeling he needed help, these realisations stopped her from moving any further. Mandy took a few breath and clenched her fists.
"Mandy, let's do this, for our sakes" Mandy muttered, she immediately turned and entered into the room once again. Craig still sat at the window, a cigarette was inbetween his left finger. He took a puff and immediately turned again to see who had entered his room. Immediately he spotted Mandy again, he scoffed.
"Are you deaf and stupid?" I told you to leave already!" Craig yelled at Mandy, but this time, Mandy didn't budge. Rather she smiled sweetly at Craig.
"First of all Sir, I am not deaf and certainly not stupid. I am here to work and take care of you and that is exactly what I am going to do. I'll start by doing the basic things in this room and I'll make sure to work dutifully. Do if you don't mind sir, I will begin by cleaning the room up. If you don't mind, please stay at the balcony while I clean" Mandy stated matter of factly.
"Don't you have ears? I said..... What the?" Craig was interrupted as Mandy wheeled him out of the room.
"I'm so sorry sir, but I need to work. Call me if you need anything sir" Mandy stated as she bowed and instantly shut the door. Craig sat there, puzzled and angry. He had been with so many maids but this girl who kept him outside seemed to be crazy. He wandered what was going on, for the first time, he didn't think about the past pains and hurts. For the first time, he became mad and curious.
