As the hours passed, I realized I might be here all night. I called my office voicemail to say I wouldn’t be in tomorrow, either. Then, I found the cafeteria, got some coffee and a couple of muffins, and took them back to the waiting room. While I ate, two other men came in, one rubbing his hands with excitement, the other white in the face and shaking. The gleeful one watched some sport thing on the television, and the white-faced one threw himself on the sofa and tried not to curl into a fetal position. I thanked God for making me gay. Then I started thinking about my sister. Should I say my poor sister? Hell no, I wouldn’t; you reap what you sowed. While I said a prayer for everything to come okay (and soon), I also remembered some of the things she had done to me when we were growing
