For a small island hospital, the emergency room was busy. It seemed accidents and emergencies happened here, too.
Billy Jo took in the blue curtains of her exam room, hearing a man snoring softly from the one beside her. The old doctor putting in stitches at her hairline was wearing reading glasses, which didn’t give her the confidence in his skill she’d have preferred.
She had seen Mark a moment ago just outside the curtained-off area, talking to the chief, another man she had never seen before, and a woman she thought was Carly Jackson. But that was impossible. Maybe she’d hit her head harder than she realized.
