Chapter 3: A World Beyond Imagination

The forest whispered as they walked—branches swaying not from wind, but from unseen magic. The trees glowed faintly, as if they breathed. Some leaves shimmered silver, others violet. Strange flowers bloomed only when Seraphina passed, petals sighing open with glowing pollen that danced in the air like golden snow. She glanced at the man walking ahead of her. He moved like a shadow—silent, powerful, graceful. Every now and then, he'd glance over his shoulder as if to ensure she hadn’t vanished. His bare back glistened with a faint shimmer of blue-inked runes that pulsed with light. She still didn’t know his name. Or what he was. Or what she was anymore. “So,” she said finally, tugging the enchanted white robe tighter around her. “Are you going to tell me who you are, or should I just start guessing? Let me try—Elf Prince? Death God? Warrior model for a celestial underwear brand?” A pause. Then, a low chuckle. “Do you ever stop talking?” “Nope.” She sidestepped a glowing vine. “It’s a coping mechanism." Helps keep me from screaming or stabbing someone.” He looked at her with faint amusement. “I’m Kael.” “Kael. Just Kael?” He stopped walking, and when he turned to face her, the moonlight caught his features—sharp cheekbones, cold eyes, a jaw carved like it could cut steel. “Kael of the Ashen Court. Guardian of the Wellspring. "Bound by oath to protect sacred grounds from creatures not of this realm.” He tilted his head. “Like you.” Seraphina squinted. “So, you’re a... magic border patrol?” He blinked, then gave a rare smirk. “Something like that.” She raised an eyebrow. “And what exactly is this Wellspring you’re so protective of?” Kael’s gaze turned serious. “It is the source. Of all magic. All life. Only those marked by the Ancients are ever called to it. And those marked...” He trailed off, eyes roaming over her. “...are never ordinary.” “Right.” Seraphina looked down at her arms, where golden tattoos still shimmered faintly. “Well, I was very ordinary five minutes ago. I had bills. An ex-best friend who tried to kill me. A husband who probably faked his own ‘I care’ voice.” Kael stepped closer, and his voice dropped low. “Nothing about you is ordinary anymore, Seraphina Vale.” Her breath caught. The way he said her name—it tasted like fire and prophecy. Before she could respond, the trees parted, revealing something that stole her words away entirely. A city. No, a kingdom. Nestled between shimmering lakes and floating islands, glowing towers reached into the night sky. Some spiraled like crystals, others pulsed with veins of gold. Winged creatures soared between the buildings, and glowing bridges arched through the air like ribbons of light. She stepped forward, stunned. “Is this real?” “It’s called Elanthria,” Kael said beside her. One of the five sacred kingdoms. Home to witches, fae, and ancient bloodlines. The realm between realms.” She turned slowly, heart pounding. “And this is where I’m supposed to be now?” Kael nodded. “The Wellspring chose you. Which means the rulers of this land will want to see you. Test you. Use you, if they can.” “Use me?” Kael met her eyes. “You’re a walking spark of untapped power. Do you think no one will notice?” Her heart thumped. She didn’t even know what she could do yet, but the idea of being used—again—made her spine stiffen. “I’m nobody’s pawn,” she said. He smiled. “Then you’d better learn to play the game.” They reached the city gates just before dawn. As they approached, the guards—if you could call them that—descended from the air on feathered wings. Seraphina stared as two angelic beings landed softly in front of her, their eyes glowing, spears held with elegance. “She’s the one,” Kael said simply. The taller of the two angels stepped forward and bowed. “Lady of the Wellspring. The High Circle awaits.” She blinked. “Already? You guys don’t even want to give me a snack first?” “Humor,” the second angel said, blinking slowly. “Strange.” “She’s human,” Kael offered. “Was human,” she corrected. “Apparently, I’m Stardust now.” Kael smiled, just slightly. They passed through glowing gates into the heart of Elanthria. Every step revealed something more surreal—floating bookshops, talking mirrors, dragons sleeping on rooftops. Children with fox ears played tag using magic smoke. A violinist on a balcony plucked notes that turned into butterflies. Seraphina stared, overwhelmed, enchanted. “I died... and came to Narnia on LSD.” Kael didn’t laugh, but she swore his shoulders shook slightly. Eventually, they arrived at a palace built of moonstone. The walls rippled with light, and every window reflected a different sky—sunset, stars, storms. Inside, a circular chamber waited. Seven thrones. Seven beings. All powerful. All beautiful in terrifying ways. The High Circle. One leaned forward—a man with eyes like liquid gold and antlers curling from his head like a forest crown. “So. The sleeping goddess wakes.” Another, a woman with skin like opals and eyes like galaxies, spoke. “Do you know what you are?” “No,” Seraphina said honestly. “But I know what I’m not—dead.” Laughter rippled around the circle. Kael stood beside her, silent but alert. “Let us test her,” the forest-king said. “If she is divine, she will awaken the blade.” A shimmering sword rose from the floor. Silver, ancient, pulsing with power. It hovered in the air, calling her. Seraphina hesitated. Then stepped forward. Her fingers wrapped around the hilt. The moment she touched it, the sword exploded in light. Wind howled. Power surged. And suddenly, Seraphina remembered things she shouldn't. Stars. Wars. Wings. A crown of moonfire. A name whispered in her bones: Zireya. Her knees buckled. Kael caught her before she hit the floor. The High Circle stared, stunned. “She remembers,” the opal-skinned woman whispered. Kael held her tightly. “Are you alright?” Seraphina opened her glowing eyes. “I don’t know who I am... but I know this isn’t just a second life.” She looked up, voice shaking. “This is a second chance.”
