I yanked away from his arm so fast I almost fell off the bed. My hands shook as I grabbed the sheet and pulled it tight around my naked body. My heart slammed against my ribs.
"What the hell did you do?" I hissed.
Ryker sat up slowly, calm like nothing was wrong. His dark eyes watched me with that same hungry look from last night. "I knew you thought I was Damien. I did not stop it."
The words knocked the air out of me. I stared at him, mouth open. "You knew? The whole time?"
"Yes." He leaned forward a little. "I have wanted you since the first day I saw you. Months before the wedding. Every time Damien brought you around, I watched. You smiled for him but your eyes looked tired. You needed more. I needed you."
My stomach twisted hard. Betrayal hit me deep, but heat still lingered low in my belly from last night. I hated it. "You tricked me into bed on my wedding night? Are you insane?"
Ryker's smile turned darker. "I made sure Damien got stuck at the airport. A few calls. Then I came here pretending to be him. You were so happy to see your new husband. You never doubted it. And when I touched you, you opened up for me completely."
The flashback hit me hard. I remembered his hands pinning my wrists. The way he bit my neck and growled. How he flipped me over and drove into me until I begged. My face burned. Shame and something hotter fought inside me.
"You let me call your name thinking you were him," I said, voice shaking. "I gave myself to you. All of me."
"And you loved it," he replied, eyes flashing. "Tell me last night did not feel better than anything you expected. Tell me you did not come apart for me."
I could not say it. Because part of me knew he was right. The pleasure had been raw and deep. My wolf still hummed with it. But this was wrong. So wrong.
Then a quick flash hit me. In my mind I saw a future version of him this same bad boy hockey captain on his knees in our kitchen, making me breakfast with a soft smile, calling me his queen, completely whipped for me. The image felt so real it scared me.
"Get out," I snapped. "Damien will be here any minute. Leave right now."
Ryker did not move. Instead he reached for my wrist and held it gently but firm. "Not yet, little dove. Your scent is still on me. Mine is all over you. Your body knows who claimed it last night."
"Stop," I whispered. But my pulse raced under his fingers. "This is my marriage. You ruined everything."
He pulled me closer on the bed. "I gave you what my brother never could. You felt it. Every thrust. Every bite. You moaned for me like you belonged to me."
Tears stung my eyes. I pushed at his chest but my arms felt weak. The memory of his body on mine made my skin tingle. Betrayal cut deep, yet I could not ignore the pull. "Please, Ryker. Just go. I cannot do this."
His hand slid to my waist. "You are mine now. No matter what you tell yourself when Damien walks in."
The sound of tires on the gravel outside made my blood run cold. Damien's car.
Ryker heard it too. He stood and grabbed his clothes fast. "I will leave through the back. But this is not over, Serena. Your wolf already chose."
He stepped close one last time. Before I could stop him, he cupped my face and kissed me hard. His tongue pushed in, claiming my mouth like he owned it. The kiss was deep and rough, full of dark promise. His teeth caught my lip for a second, just like last night. When he pulled back, his eyes burned into mine.
"Remember how wet you got for me," he murmured. "Damien will never make you feel that way."
Then he slipped out the bedroom door.
I jumped up, legs shaky, and threw on a robe. My hands would not stop trembling as I rushed to the bathroom. I splashed water on my face and sprayed perfume everywhere, trying to cover Ryker's scent. But it clung to my skin, thick and masculine, mixing with the smell of s*x from last night. No matter what I did, my wolf could still smell him.
Tires stopped outside. The car door slammed.
I ran down the stairs, forcing a smile that felt fake. My heart pounded with fear. Every step, I felt Ryker's touch on my body. His scent followed me like a secret I could not hide. What if Damien noticed right away? What if he smelled his own brother on his new wife?
I reached the front door just as Damien stepped out of the car. He looked tired but happy to see me. I walked toward him on weak legs, t
errified that one wrong breath would end everything.
