Song for this Chapter: It’ll Be Okay-Shawn Mendes CHAPTER 81 CORINNE After the sunrises, Diesel called Carina and told her to come in our Penthouse. Our. It doesn’t feel like ours anymore. he abandoned me on my darkest hour, it was that easy for him to do so since he has a lover. No matter how many times I think hard and gave justice for what he just did, there’s no deeper certainty that he will last in this marriage. His love for me were shallow, a simple infatuation. He doesn’t love me. does he even? Carina and Diesel drove me to the hospital and ask for the attendants to do some medico legal on me in case I might need the evidence all over my body when the time comes. I told them I don’t want to push this through legal matters as we will gather more attention to both our families than it already will through the Blaze and I’s divorce. Diesel get mad at me for thinking about all the people who left me and told me that I should think of myself for now. But that truth is, that was just my excuse. I am embarrassed, I am scared. What if no one believes me too just like what my own husband did? I was admitted to the hospital because of the severity of my condition that I need some stitches down there. they treated me like an animal. The reality sank in especially when I am sitting down on the middle of the hospital bed with all white walls all around me. Someone knocks on my door, and Havoc stepped in. my father-in-law. My tears started to fall while I keep fidgeting on my nails. I am so embarrassed, I have nothing to show him. What if he doesn't believe me either? “Corinne—” he starts. And when I saw him standing in front of me with a pitied look, I sob and stifle it with my palm. He just hugs me warmly, openly and tenderly. Just like what he did the first time he took me in under the Mayhems wings. A little while after I wiped the tears from my eyes, he reached for something from the paper. I opened one and found that it was a savings account that contained piles of money that even if I worked, I would not be able to save it. "What's this?" I asked, even though I knew what it was for. He handed me another envelope that also contained papers. And when I opened it, what I was afraid of was inside. Divorce papers. I couldn't move or speak as I stared at Blaze and I's name printed on the divorce papers. And the reason for our divorce is indifference. Too shallow, too useless a reason for two people who got married in front of the shrine of the god who promised to be together for life just to separate to easily. “I don’t even want to this, Corinne. Believe me. I want you for my son, and I still do. But Blaze talks to me last night, that if I didn’t do this, if I didn’t let him, he was the one whose to leave.” Havoc looks so sincere and sounds genuine. Blaze can’t leave the place. The children and the people in downtown need him. I wiped my tears and handed him back the savings account “I don’t think I need this.” But he put it in my lap “You’ll need this. You’re still a Mayhem. Start a new life away from here, Corinne. Don’t go back to the Lewises. I still got you, no matter what happened. And that is my promise.” Now, I know what did Blaze’s mother sees in Havoc. He is a lion outside but a pure goodness in the inside. He’s telling the truth though, I’ll need the money if I don’t want to get back on the Lewises and repeat the same old story. Havoc kissed my forehead just like a father comforting his own child “I promise, I will do the best I can to make them pay for what they did to you. I promise.” I just nod, because how I wanted all their blood on the palm of my hands and squeeze the life out of them. A little while after Havoc left, another knock on the door broke my silence. It's Martha. “What are you doing here?” “Don’t worry I am not here to play mother with you.” She sighs and sat down on the couch. “Then what do you need?” “Get out of the country.” “What?” I scoffed “Who are you to boss me?” “Apparently, I am your adoptive mother.” I just look at her. “It is the best you can do right now. leave the country. Especially now that the news is spreading that you and Blaze are getting divorced. You don't know what you're getting yourself into Corinne. The day you chose to marry Blaze it was like you dug your own grave. Mayhems have many enemies. And when they can't soften up the King and the Prince, they go to the Mayhems' weakest possession. The wives. You don't even know if one of their enemies did this to you. You know just to punish the reigning prince?” What she says making sense that I didn’t even bother to talk nor answer her. “Leave the country, it was the best for you.” Then she left.
