CHAPTER 70
CORINNE
Once again, in the middle of the night, I woke up in our hose with another slurring from downstairs.
Is it him? Is it him with Hannah or another woman, I don’t know.
After he left earlier, I chose to just clean the house, make it the way it was supposed to be just like before and I did know that I tried my best at it.
I came out of the room and peeked into the veranda and saw my husband sitting on our couch holding his side, and he was groaning. As if something was hurting him, as if he was in pain. I couldn't see much because it was dark and the lights were off. The only light was the moonlight that entered the mirror wall.
“Blaze?” I called out to him.
“Go back to sleep, Corinne.”
That didn’t help me much, because it just made me more curious as ever.
I rushed down to the first floor of the Penthouse and immediately went to Blaze, when I got close, I immediately looked at what he was holding by his side, and when I did, it was blood, his blood. I gasped "Oh my god, oh my god!" I said it again and again because I didn't know what happened. "What happened?"
“Relax, it was just a stab wound.”
“What the f**k do you mean relax, Blaze, you’ve been stabbed.” I walk on the telephone “We need to get you an ambulance—”
“No! Don’t call an ambulance.”
“What?”
“There’s no need.” He groans in pain again.
“Blaze, you need to get treated.” I plead.
“Can you do to me the same way you did last time?”
I was confused “What is it—” then I remembered the night he went inside my studio in downtown uninvitedly, he was bleeding too that night.
“Corinne?”
“Yeah—” I nod “Yeah, sure. Wait up.” I went to the kitchen to get the first aid kit we have at home. and drink water first because I'm shaking so much with fear right now.
When I got to him, I immediately gave him first aid, and he was holding the bottle of wine and I could see that he was still in pain. "What happened, Blaze? Who did that to you?"
“It was too dark, I couldn’t see much.” He took a swig of his cigarette, I took the cigarette from his mouth and threw it in the trash. "Can't you see, I cleaned the house. And I don't want you smoking inside the house."
He scoffed “Sorry, madam.”
“I am not playing games here, Blaze. The night I saw you in downtown bleeding too, what are you doing there?” I pressed.
“So many questions, Darling.” He smirks.
“None of it you did answer.” I snap.
“None of your business, that is why I didn’t answer you the first time, right?”
“It is different now, whatever your business is, it will be mine too because—”
“—because you are my f*****g wife.” He finished for me “Is that it right?”
“It is. Whether you like it or not.” I closed up his wound and he groan louder.
"Don't you understand, Corinne? You're safer when you know a little, and when you know a lot, your life becomes more dangerous."
"Is that why you prefer to push me away from you? Blaze, those weeks before my event. We are so happy, I can hardly imagine or even imagine that we will have so much fun together. Don't you want that kind of life with me? "
He smirks "You don't understand, Corinne. The son of Cosa Nostra can never be happy and just enjoy life. I have many opponents, I have many enemies. I protect many. What you want to happen is the simple life of a married couple. But you have to think that I'm not a simple person, and so are you."
“Then make me understand, Blaze. What have you and Hannah doing?” I plead, more desperately.
Tonight, I see that Blaze has been fighting off his demons just like anyone else.
I wanted him to get out of that dark and stay in the colors with me.
“Can we talk another topic? I missed you.” This is the first time today that he somehow showed that he misses me.
“You didn’t call me.”
“Because you said you needed time and space.”
“You should’ve called me still, I wanted to hear your voice.” I sat down in front of him.
He caressed my face gently “You look thin. Does grandma take care of you?”
I smiled “She did. How about you? You look so thin and you look like you didn’t get much sleep.”
“I really didn’t. the house feels empty.”
“Is that why you decide to host a party?” I smirk.
“I didn’t touch her.”
“You do?”
He nods “I didn’t.”
I nod and look at the moon from outside of our home. “If you say so.”
“Congratulations on Julliard’s.”
My head snaps to him “How did you know?”
"I was the one who received the letter here at home. And I know that you don't want to talk to me, so I gave it to Carina so that she can inform you."
“Yeah, it felt surreal.” I smiled.
“Are you going to pursue Julliard’s?”
I nod “I might. How about you? After high school, what’s your plan? I am hoping you will still be my husband.”
He boop my head and chuckle “We’ll see.” He sighs “I don’t even know what I wanted to do in my life. I love football but I didn’t see myself playing for the NFL. I don’t think I have a thing just like you.”
“Everyone has a thing. It was impossible that you don’t.”
He looks at me and sighs “Yeah, I guess I have a thing.”
“Really, then what is it?”
“You.”
I stilled and look at him. “One day. You’re telling me that I am liar, the next minute you’re telling me something like that like you love me.” I smiled sadly.
“You have always been my thing.”
This time, we’re both quietly look at each other’s eyes.
“I might just follow you when you start studying in Julliard’s.”
I smiled as I saw him slowly drifting asleep, he’s just drunk. I don’t want my hopes getting high, he’s just drunk.
When he close his eyes, I fixed him to lie in the couch appropriately “Yeah you should do that. I want you to follow me everywhere.”
