Song for this Chapter: Someday-Nina CHAPTER 40 CORINNE I know I have no more shame and delicacy to hide from Blaze. He sees how desperate and helpless I am, so out of all the people I know, I chose him to go last night. Believe me, if Blaze is not at the top of my list, he will be the last. But with everything I found out last night, I know for myself that I really have no one to trust, no one to turn to, no one to help me. Marcus really loved Anne, my mother when I grew up. But now he loves more the money, wealth and power he has now. So, I can't be sure I can trust him when it comes to Anne. Anne, I know that she meant well to me why she didn't tell me my true identity, but she owes it to her deceased twin sister who is apparently my mother. And I just found out about her, because my whole life I didn't know that Anne had a twin sister. So, she really has a plan not to introduce me to my real mother. Diesel, I once trusted him, and it messed the only chance I have to get out of Marcus Lewis's hell of a house. I trusted him that he would protect me, instead he only protects himself and the power his longing for. And given the fact, that he conspired with Marcus to overthrow his own cousin. Even though he knows what Marcus did to me all those years, is f*****g messed up. He's hungry for power too, I guess. Maybe everyone is eager to have power in this world, just like me. I wanted to have power for the freedom I am longing for so long. There are only other people who let their ambition swallow them whole in order to achieve the power they desire. And I’ wishing and hoping that I wouldn’t turn just like all of them. So, that leaves Blaze on top of the person I can contact and beg for help. Knowing that he did not kill Gian and that he was also one of the victims of Marcus and Diesel sends me on full power guilt and I even had the audacity to ask him for help after what happened to us, most importantly is; it even cost him his life. I almost killed him. Maybe that's why Marcus forced me away and prevented me from interfering in Gian's case, because he and Diesel knew that I wouldn't let this slide until I knew the truth. And I did. In the night I didn't expect that my life would change course, that my perspective and trust in the people around me would change. I didn’t tell him last night about what I just figured out with his cousin Diesel, I am still mad at him, but I am still in love with him. I don’t know what the Mayhem’s would do if they found out that one of their kind is plotting someone in their family’s death. They may kill him. And I can’t afford if something happened to Diesel. So, I can’t even tell Blaze what I knew about Gian’s death, because Marcus will tell them eventually that Diesel is one of the few people, he shares this plan with. Once again, I am caught in the dead end. I know I am such a terrible person for keeping someone who will likely wants to kill someone else. But what can I do? When I loved that person with all my heart and wanted to protect him even if he can’t do it for me in return? I didn’t received any calls or text from Marcus. I don’t know if I should be relieved or should be worried about his silence. I received too many from my sister, Carina. And from my keeper, Nora. But not with Diesel. And Blaze. I woke up this morning still on his bed and I appreciate how manly and tidy his bedroom were. The window is still open. “I want you gone first thing in the morning.” His words from last night kept ringing on my ears as I woke up. I don’t want to over used my stay, as soon as I took a bath and see that my uniform is laundry, I wear instantly as it was the only piece of clothing I have. No stains. No blood. No everything. No signs of what just happened last night. As if it didn’t never happen. I didn’t see him though, nor Diesel. But his Butler calls me out in the kitchen and I was greeted by a feast of a breakfast, so I just ate first. I have no money, there’s no choice for me but to accept all the generosity of the Mayhem’s. After I ate, I called Nora to helped me get a few clothes to wear or even lend me some money to hide from Marcus. She said she would come and even send me a few bucks on my bank account, which I used to booked an uber. If there was a bus stop here, I would choose that to save the money that Nora sent me. maybe I would just crash on my studio for some time, but I didn’t think it was safe knowing that Marcus knew that place too, no. My studio wasn’t the option anymore. Nora texted me that she’s already waiting for me at the school parking lot, and she met me there. Her eyes were bloody red maybe for crying nonstop last night as she hugged me so tight “I am so worried about you.” I pat her back. I trust her, I know I can, no matter what. “I am fine.” “Where did you sleep?” “I am at the Mayhem’s last night. Blaze let me stay the night.” She nods “I know I said that Blaze Mayhem is bad news, but I changed my mind. He’s more powerful than your own Father. He can help you.” I bow my head “I already asked him for his help last night but he told me that he’s already dating my friend, Hannah. And I thought they were serious about it.” Nora shakes her head frantically “No, Corinne—” She put her hands on my shoulder “You needed him, he will help you.” “He won’t Nora.” I smiled at her sadly “—and that’s fine, I’ll just figure this out on my own.” “Maybe you should tell his Father about this relationship. Havoc wants you for his son, and he will do anything to stop them.” “No, Nora. That would cost Hannah great pain, and I can’t afford that—” “—and this will cost you your life, and you know that.” I stand still, she’s right. But no, I wouldn’t stoop that low. If Blaze wanted to help me and break things off with Hannah, he will do it. But he didn’t. And I have to figure this out, I have to save myself, and I can’t put my own life in the palm of the others hands. I looked at the luxury paper bags I had on my hands, it was full of my things and clothes to wear. “He tries to kill me last night.” “What?” “He—” I closed my eyes and swallow the building up lump on my throat “—Last night, he met up with me. He tried to kill me.” Nora gasped and cover her mouth as tears kept o falling on her eyes. She hugged me again, and I did the same, God knows how much I needed some comfort right now, that’s when I feel it, and I see a pair of dark eyes watching mine.
