CHAPTER 95
ERIKA
My life in Forks is all I could ever wished for.
My parents said that I am raised in Russia, that we are Russian. But we have to migrate here in Forks, Washington, USA because I have someone wants my head. Apparently that someone is the reason why some of my childhood memories lost.
I couldn’t remember any single thing from the way I am living most of my childhood to my young adult phase in Russia, because someone is mad at my Father.
which was the reason why I got involved in the trouble that my Father and that person had. My parents chose not to disclose any information about the person, they also chose not to tell me more about my accident. The reason is, they prefer me to live without an idea of how hard and painful the life we have in Russia, in their own words, consider this memory lost my second chance at life, to be positive and never look back the life we had in Russia.
And honestly, as much as I was curious about my life before, I can't complain anymore because of the good life I have now here in Forks. Although, Papa is always drunk and sometimes it's like I'm invisible to him, at least Mama and my younger sister Cora are safe and love me more than anything.
I have to work hard for my four-year-old sister, she has a very weak immune system that made her back and forth to the hospital.
Sometimes it’s hard watching her in her state, but I am also amazed on how brave she is.
And I can’t fail her, she looks up at me, and all I can see in her eyes is the love she has for me.
For four years, the doctors couldn’t explain her illness. They all just saying the same thing over and over again for the past years my sister gone to the hospital.
Very weak immune system since childbirth.
They said that such a disease can be acquired if the Mother who bears the child experienced severe stress while pregnant or experienced a severe accident. Mama admitted that she was really stressed when she was pregnant with Cora. It's because of the accident I was involved in and the trouble Papa got into. Sometimes, even if I don't want to, I can't help but blame Papa. I don't have any complaints about the life I have now, even though I can't remember anything but my present, but when I see Cora struggling, I can't help but be angry with Papa for why he got us into the trouble he got into.
On why we’re the one we have to pay for that.
However, God has not left me alone in my life today. I met my current boyfriend, Nigel Kravitz, in Forks three years ago. He is also the one who introduced me to the hobby and the job I have now. I am a photographer in a studio and sometimes I also do a side hustle at events when someone hires me. But when there isn't really much work in the studio and at the event, I work to the local coffee shop and diner here in Forks that is also owned by Nigel.
This is job is what I am doing to help support for my family. Sometimes, it’s hard. Sometimes, I am getting tired. But whenever I see my Mama and Cora, I knew all of this hard work will pay off.
I was on my way home from the studio when I saw a luxurious limousine parked right in front of our house. Forks is a small place, and I'm not familiar with our car. I rushed inside the house only to find ten or more suited men inside the house while Mama was shaking on the side and almost crying with fear. I look everywhere for Cora, but she is not there. Thank god, maybe she's still there with her best friend Martin in the other house and she won't be able to see the situation that is now in our house. Papa is still holding his bottle of beer while sitting calmly, too calmly. Even if they don't say it, I know that these men are Papa's enemies, which could also be the cause of my memory loss. Until that one man stood up, his aura and appearance were different from everyone. He had this strong and scary persona with him that immediately scared me. Whoever this man is, he's dangerous. He's bad news.
He looks at me, my soul ripped, another look, my soul doomed.
And then he mutters those words that shake the life out of me “How much for her?”
Does he mean, he wanted to buy me off?
I couldn’t understand what is happening, and I couldn’t understand him more when Papa answered him “I know you couldn’t resist this offer.”
