Song for this Chapter: Traitor-Olivia Rodrigo CHAPTER 85 CORINNE Almost a month has passed by, four weeks and three days to be exact since the tragedy happened. No Blaze. No calls or either just a message saying goodbye and wishing me luck after all. I don’t know if I should be happy, relieved or broken when I didn’t receive any message from Blaze. I guess I should just be happy, because that meant Doctor Sterling kept her promise that she wouldn’t tell the Mayhems about my pregnancy. That I can still keep the plan I had been planning for the couple of months. When I got discharged from the hospital, I received a text message that I know damn well where it came from. It was just a simple text, “I am sorry, I don’t have any other choice. I had to.” That’s it. Two days after that message, I thought really hard if I should call this number. And try to talk to the man who abused me that night. I know it was Noah Kavinsky, but then the number isn’t reachable anymore. maybe he’s now hiding in plain sight. I wanted to kill him. That’s my first thought when I kept remembering his name and his mischievous smile that got me into this mess. I let my guard down, I let myself be fooled yet again. But the past cannot be undone anymore, and I promised when I was given a chance, I will kill him. And let his blood flow in the palm of my hands. I stayed at Savannah’s apartment. And I'm not used to being a burden to anyone, especially my friends. Savannah is working this summer job at a café near Julliard's and her apartment is also close to Julliard's where my life should begin. But that's unlikely to happen. Every now and then I pass in front of Julliard's and I can't help but be sad about the turn of events that happened in my life when a month ago I was so excited to face the new phase of my life. But what else did I expect? Because I know that the name Corinne Angeline Lewis is associated with the word misery and misfortune. Maybe, it's my fault too because my dream flew high. It's my fault too because I wanted too much for myself. So here I am now, very disappointed and very hurt. When I shouldn’t be anymore because I am used to this feeling. But I shouldn't be discouraged now because there is only one reason left for me to keep going. That is my child. The fruit of my love for someone who will never love me. To the person who will I never be enough for him. This child is the reason why I planned on getting away in this hellhole once and for all. Paris. That’s where I will go and will try to start our own life without the mess I had been. Hoping there is so many opportunities waiting for me in there. For me and my child alone. Last week, I already talked to Diesel and Carina about it. And they said that I should just come with them since they’re still being banished in Europe by the Mayhems. And I insist, that I shouldn’t. In order for me to start anew, is to turn my back to the people I am close with. Carina and Diesel, they are now starting their own life, and I respect that. I don’t need them looking after me. I wanted them to be happy. This week, I visit Anne, the mother I grew up but turns out she’s just the twin sister of my biological mom, so, technically, she’s my aunt. But I still love her and respect her just the same. I told her what happened, what went wrong, I told her everything that happened to me ever since I was only fourteen. I know, I promised myself that I will just keep it as a secret until the day I die, but I realized, she should know. In order for her to understand my decisions, she should know everything from the beginning. She was so heartbroken and I know wrecked her. But I thought, I owe this to myself too. I needed to pull out all the knife that’s been on my back for years. I have to think of myself from now on. That’s the hard truth I learned in this mess, I needed to put myself first for me to survive this cruel world. I know Blaze won’t let Anne alone. He loves her, just like his own. I see it in his eyes. In that in my thought, I know I can leave this place at peace without thinking of anybody anymore. I finished packing when I heard my temporary bedroom door on Savannah’s apartment opened. And Savannah was standing on the doorway, leaning her frame on the doorframe. Smiling at me sadly. “Are you really sure about this?” she asked. I nod and smiled at her “Never been this sure in my entire life.” That’s the truth. “Your baby’s starting to show up.” She pointed on my growing belly and I held my child inside smiling at her. Her. I don’t know why I thought of her. “Yeah, she’s going to be great at Paris.” “I am sure she will, having a strong and stubborn mother like you to raise her.” Savannah hugs me and I did the same. “I’m gonna miss you.” Then I felt her body shaking, she’s crying, I know she’s trying not to. “Yeah, me too. promise me you will always call me.” “I will.” I cupped her face and kissed her forehead. A little while later, there was breaking news on television that Savannah and I both watched. It was the picture of my ex-husband and his mistress. Blaze frowned but was looking at the camera. He was wearing a lovely and elegant pair of tuxedos, while holding on to his large arms was Hannah Evans who was wearing an elegant dress and all her confidence was out there from where she is for her to wear that kind of sexy and exposing dress that I must admit was perfect for her. “...and in the latest news. Less than a month before the news of La Cosa Nostra heir Axel Mayhem's divorce from his ex-wife who is the daughter of a famous senator, Corinne Lewis, the elitists have already announced the upcoming wedding of Axel Mayhem and a famous model, Hannah Evans, who made a name for herself last year because of her rampage with the country's famous designers." announced the reporter on the television that stopped my world. My suspicion was right, Blaze never loved me. He never felt anything for me because from the beginning, it was always his mistress. And what happened to me was just a way for him to get out of our marriage that strangling him. I didn’t shed any more tears nor make it obvious to Savannah that I am breaking into million pieces. It is like in just one snap, I couldn’t feel anything at once anymore. And I am addicted to this feeling. I needed this new feeling.
