Caro’s POV
Breathing in and out, my eyes closed as I anticipated checking out at the excitement of the test result I was doing right now. I gently opened my eyes and opened the pregnancy strip test.
"I’m pregnant,” I muttered quietly as I stared at the two red stripes on the pregnancy test kit.
A wave of relief washed over me as I stepped out of the bathroom. I was finally pregnant after three years of waiting and hoping.
A smile crept up my face as I remembered what day today was. It was my wedding anniversary. This has to be the most greatest news and most memorable and beautiful gift to give noout to him.
For the first time in two years, I was actually looking forward to this. I couldn't wait to see how happy Brandon would be when he finds out about his baby and heir.
Maybe it wasn't too late to strengthen our bond and marriage. With trembling hands, I picked up my phone and dialed his number.
The phone kept ringing and yet, he didn't pick. A feeling of dread slowly crawled up my nerves. I shook off the feeling. Nothing could be wrong. He had always told me that he didn't answer calls outside work at his office.
When did it all start?
Yes! It was that moment I perceived a refreshing scent and I had found out that Brandon was my mate.
He had been hesitant to accept. In fact, he had lied at first that he didn't feel the mate bond and had almost rejected me until his father, the previous alpha, heard about it and stopped it.
I had been so excited to marry him because it was everyone's wish to get married to their fated mate.
He was handsome and also an alpha's son. I thought I had gotten what every lady wished to have, but little did I know that it would be the beginning of my misery.
He never marked me as his mate even after our wedding. Although he always had s*x with me whenever he came home drunk, he never called me his mate or wife.
From the second month, he started treating me so badly just like a maid even when he had made me Luna.
He couldn't trust me with any of Luna's duties. He completely disregarded and ignored me for good three years and always claimed I was barren whereas he was never around to spend time with me.
Still, I was happy with the little happiness I derived from being just his wife, hoping that one day he would open his heart to me.
And finally, the moon goddess had decided to put a smile on my face on our anniversary.
I quickly changed into a comfortable dress and stepped out of the house. Soon, I got to the his company and, shaking off that feeling of dread that once again crept up my spine, I walked in.
"Oh Luna! It's a pleasure to see you here." A voice greeted me and I turned to return their greeting.
It was the head of security of his company and he had a warm smile.
"Good day to you. Is the Alpha in his office?"
He hesitated a bit. "Have you put a call through to the alpha. He doesn't like being disturbed at work. He could get upset if you just showed up without prior notice."
He wasn't wrong about him getting mad at me for coming to his office, but what got me concerned was the look on the man's face.
He was struggling to maintain his smiling expression and I felt my heart begin to thud widely in my chest. I breathed out a short breath, remembering that I had good news to share.
Knowing how Brandon had always wanted an heir, he would be more than delighted to see me
I shook my head. "Thanks for the concern. There won't be any trouble. I already contacted him before coming here."
He looked like he wanted to say something but he shut his mouth and smiled. "Alright, Luna."
As I made my way to his office, I couldn't fail to notice how awfully quiet the place was.
It was as if the staff had been dismissed for the day or were they on break? Just as I crossed the lobby to his office door, a low voice drifted out--- It sounded more like a murmur.
All rationality screamed at me not to listen. To get out of there, close my eyes and turn my back.
To just go home and wait for him to come, but my body seemed to have developed an anti control system as I couldn't seem to control my legs from moving towards the door.
My footsteps were so silent that I couldn't even hear them. All I could feel was my heart thudding frantically, threatening to climb into my throat.
And with each step towards the door, the murmur became more audible. It was a soft giggle. And it was a woman's voice.
My mind emptied when I heard Brandon heavy and raspy breaths.
My senses were screaming in me as I felt a muscle clench in my stomach. What was my husband doing with a woman in his office?
From the way she giggled, it sure wasn't work related. Why was his breathing heavy?
Had they been kissing there? Different thoughts competed for attention in my head but I discarded them all.
Brandon might not like me as his mate or wife but he would never do something so disgusting as cheating.
I turned the door knob to clarify my doubts when I heard the woman's voice clearly. It sounded somewhat familiar but I couldn't place a finger on where I had heard it.
"So, what are you going to tell the dumb Luna?" She said under her breath.
The sound of a kiss, the hollow sound of flesh slapping against flesh and a lady's soft and husky moans afterwards was enough to tell me what was going on in there.
Standing behind the door, I heard my mate's voice. It was a tone that I’d never heard… a voice that showed lust. Nothing like the voice he always addressed me with.
"I will tell her that I can't stay married to a barren woman and that I want out. If she throws a tantrum, I will give her the pills. She's so gullible, remember?"
And at that moment, my stomach twisted and contracted as the echoes of their laughter drifted outside.
Tears rolled down my eyes and I shook my head in disbelief. It had to be a dream. All this was not happening.
She let out a scoff. "I wonder how you managed to put up with that dumb piece of s**t for two years. What if she refuses to use the pills? You really need to get your hands on the trust funds."
"She won't refuse. The woman thinks about only me and she'll do anything as long as I'm the one asking her. But then if she doesn't die that way, there are a thousand ways to make her legally disappear from this world."
With anger coursing through my veins, I booted the door open. My heart stopped beating in that second I saw them.
They were naked, completely naked without thinking maybe anyone could come in at that moment.
