Caro’s POV
The anger that boiled in my guts was almost enough to destroy their whole pack as I gritted my fist, remembering everything that Brandon and Eliza will do to me in my future life.
Wait a minute! If today was 21st March, 2022, that meant it was the same day I had found out that Brandon was my mate.
A sinister smile touched my lips. This time around, I'm going to turn the wheels. I'm never giving them a chance to destroy my life, never again, never.
"You are here, Caro." A voice called behind me. A voice I knew too well and so good, this "I've been looking everywhere for you."
I almost shrieked in horror when I saw my mom's face.
That's right! She was still alive when I found out that Brandon was my mate.
She'd been a maid and had died because of me.
She was so sick to default and had been calling my phone, but I had been too busy trying to please my husband, to even notice her calls.
She'd died serving him as his personal maid, but this time, I'm never letting that happen to her again. Plastering a smile on my face, I walked up to him.
"Mom,"
"Caro, Thank the moon goddess you're here. Where have you been?"
My mind is on a frantic search for a lie to give her. I don’t seem to remember exactly what I was doing this very day, but I searched her eye looking for a lie to tell her, “I was busy helping out the other people in preparation for the ceremony.”
She gave me a doubting look, before smiling again. "Alright. I need to go somewhere. Could you help me out with my own part of preparation for the crowning ceremony?"
I nodded and she patted my neck before going out. I felt a slight squeeze in my heart as I walked into the royal chambers.
A noise coming from a door caught my attention. It was the door that led to Brandon’s former chamber, before he was crowned alpha.
I had heard this same sound in my past life but I hadn't cared enough to even check what had been going on. I had been so focused on helping my mother finish her own part of the maids' duties.
I held my breath as I walked stealthily to the door and opened the door quietly. The first thing that caught my eyes was his shoes and red heels tossed on the staircase.
This felt also like the same way I had caught him cheating on me but I breathed in trying not to recall it.
He was definitely with a woman and they'd probably kicked off their shoes hastily as they entered his room.
I clutched the tip of my dress, preparing my heart to take in what I was about to see. I subconsciously hoped I would catch them in the act because that could be the my justification for rejecting him.
As a lowly omega in night pack, I knew well I had no right to reject an alpha figure, except I had a tangible reason. This had to be it.
My mind was preoccupied with so many thoughts that I didn't notice one of Brandon’s shoes lying on the floor.
I tripped over it and I slid down onto the first landing. My feet would be sore very soon but I felt nothing now.
"What the hell are you doing here?" A voice shouted angrily above me.
I looked up to see Brandon’s handsome face. He still looks good enough to make my heart flutter, but not anymore. I fixed his freezing gaze before standing up.
At that moment, I glimpsed Eliza’s face behind him. How could I not have remembered her? She'd been with him when I'd found out he was my mate.
Brandon’s father had explained then that she was a nurse and she'd come to run a medical checkup on Brandon in place of her father.
How could I have been blind to the sparks which had been obviously flying between them? I plastered a stiff smile as I opened my mouth to make up an excuse.
"Mate!" The words escaped my lips as a string of intoxicating scent wafted into my nostrils.
He c****d his head in question and a frown creased his forehead. "How dare you!" He growled.
"You think you deserve to be my mate? How dare the moon goddess give me a lowly and filthy omega as mate. I'll never accept you!"
I stifled the smile that threatened to crawl up my lips. "I never said I'd accept the mate bond either. So, let's proceed with the rejection."
He looked taken aback for a minute before regaining his composure. "Alright then, you asked for it. I, Brandon Floriscent, reject you,…"
"Caro Thane." I filled in.
"I, Brandon Floriscent rejects you, Caro Thane as my mate!" He finished.
It felt as though a heavy weight had been lifted from my check as I trained my gaze on Eliza.
She didn't hide the delight in her gaze as she gave me a look as though she expected me to protest. But they were both in for a shock!
I held back the curse that was on the tip of my tongue. "I, Caro accept your rejection!"
Without waiting to see the reaction on their faces, I turned and left the chambers. A feeling of satisfaction settled in my guts as I walked out of the palace, thinking about the next step to take.
I was thinking of taking my mother out of the pack and travel out of the country after finding the most important person that’ll help me out.
I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I didn't see the man coming towards me. Too late! I bumped into him and quickly stepped an inch backwards.
"Sorry, I wasn't.." I trailed off as a wave of recognition filtered in.
He was none other than Zach, Brandon’s colleague in the past and if my memory was still intact, it was through his help that Brandon company reached its peak three years after he established it.
My smile widened as I grabbed his hands. "I've been looking everywhere for you. I have a business idea to share with you." I said sharply.
"What are you talking about?"
Surprise was an understatement compared to the look on his face. He looked shocked and it was honestly expected.
"Mr Zach, I understand that my low status in the pack might make you think I'm only going to spew nonsense, but I promise you I have knowledge of the economy and business."
He arched an eyebrow. "Alright. I'm listening."
If I was going to change my fate, I had to take it by force. And I'm never letting go of this opportunity.
"Mr Zach, have you heard of stocks? What if I told you that converting all your assets to stocks is going to make you a billionaire in three years time?"
Everything I said after then, I had no slightest comprehension but the last word I heard and which changed my life forever were;
"Alright. Miss Caro, you're now an official partner of Z&R company as of today!"
THREE YEARS LATER,
The summer breeze brushed my face as I walked out of the airport, looking elegant and sophisticated. I took in a deep breath as a limousine screeched to a halt in front of me.
The driver came down and opened the front door, bowing curtly to greet me. "Welcome back, Ma'am. The chairman is waiting for you."
I inclined my he'd in greeting as he flashed him a warm smile.
Three years had passed now and I was now a famous designer at Z&R and Cosmetics Company which was currently the top company in the world.
Still, I hadn't given up on getting back at Brandon for what he did to me in the past. I wanted to expose everything and get revenge over what he did to me.
The moon goddess didn't just grant a second chance only to rectify my mistakes, she gave me an opportunity to pay back what those bastards who hurt me in the past.
Revenge was a dish best served cold. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth…That's only fair play. As I took a step, I lost my balance and staggered backwards.
I was so sure I would fall but strong arms suddenly wrapped around my waist possessively, making me jerk my head around to look at my savior.
I found myself staring into the sea blue eyes of a goddess.
For a few seconds, I forgot where I was.
His face was perfectly sculpted and his jawlines and bow shaped lips accentuated his facial contour.
My gaze trailed to his red lips and I couldn't fail to notice how sinful they looked.
If there were men like this alive, how did I ever fall for Brandon?
The stranger exuded a chilling and domineering aura, the type that made people cower in fear.
Only, I wasn't scared. If anything, I was itching to run my hand along his finely chiseled chest that hugged his clothes firmly.
My breath hitched in my throat as I struggled for control.
I shouldn't be acting this way. The last thing I needed to get in my way now is lack of self control.
Before I could act, he spoke.
"Seen enough, ms Caro ?"
My face heated up in embarrassment and I felt like the earth should open and swallow me. I could have slipped out of my grasp.
Wait a minute! Did he just call me by my name?
I recoiled out of his arms, squinting my eyes in surprise.
Before I could say a word, a sleek back car screeched to a halt beside him and he got in, winking as he did.
"See you later, Caroline!"
