The Hotel Santora offered the best Swahili cuisine in town. Situated two kilometers from the town center to the east, the hotel built in the mid seventies was surrounded by leisure – providing amenities; two Olympic - sized swimming pools, a world class golf course and even a leisure park dotted with the great baobab trees.
The interior of the main hotel building was equally fascinating. The ground floor was partitioned into four areas excluding the reception hall which was the size of three classrooms of a capacity of forty students each. The first was the bar; this mainly sold hard liquor and one could listen to hard rock or heavy metallic music whenever the occasion called for it.
