BLOOD MOON BOND

CHAPTER 11: BLOOD MOON BOND The silence after Veyran's declaration stretched thin as a blade. Blood dripped from his broken chains onto the marble floor. Drip. Drip. Drip. Each drop sounded like a countdown. Saelith couldn't breathe. Couldn't blink. Couldn't look away from the Alpha standing between her and death. His back was to her, broad shoulders blocking out the world, muscles taut under his torn shirt. The scars on his skin told stories she would never be brave enough to ask about. Darius broke the silence first. He clapped. Slow. Deliberate. Mocking. "Bravo, brother. 'She's mine.' How romantic. How utterly tragic." He rose from his throne, black robes dragging across the floor like spilled ink. "But the King gave the order. The Blood Moon demands sacrifice. A stray cannot survive this night. It's tradition." "Traditions change," Veyran said. His voice was low. Quiet. The kind of quiet that came before a storm destroyed everything. The guards stepped forward from the shadows. Six of them. Six blades drawn. Steel catching the red moonlight. Six death sentences walking toward her. Saelith's heart hammered against her ribs so hard it hurt. Her wolf was panicking inside her, clawing at her mind, begging her to shift and run and hide. But run where? There was no escape from Blackthorn Castle. No escape from the King. No escape from destiny. Veyran turned his head slightly. Just enough for her to see his profile. Blood trickled from a cut above his eye, down his cheek, disappearing into his beard. He hadn't even noticed. "Stay behind me," he commanded. Not asked. Commanded. Ordered like she was already his. "And if I don't?" Her voice came out smaller than she intended. Weaker than she felt. His silver eyes flicked to hers. Burning. Possessive. Desperate in a way that scared her more than Darius ever could. "Then I kill them all faster. And then I carry you out of here over my shoulder like the thief you are. You stole my peace the day you walked into my territory." The first guard lunged. Sword aimed at Saelith's heart. What happened next was a blur of violence that she would dream about for years. Veyran moved like death given form and purpose. Claws ripped through armor like paper. Fangs tore through throats before the guards could scream. Blood sprayed across the white marble, turning it red to match the moon outside. He didn't fight like a prince. He didn't fight like a son. He fought like an Alpha who had lost everything once and would burn the world before losing again. Saelith pressed herself against the stone pillar, hands shaking, breath coming in short gasps. She should run. She should hide. But her feet were rooted to the spot. Because watching him fight for her did something dangerous to her chest. Something warm. Something that felt like belonging. Like home. Darius watched from his throne, arms crossed. Amused. Unhinged. "This is what you chose her for? A street wolf who can't even hold a sword? Who can't even protect herself?" Veyran drove his claw through the last guard's chest. The body crumpled without a sound. Silence fell again. Heavy. Final. Permanent. Veyran turned to Darius slowly. Blood dripped from his claws. His chest heaved with exertion. "She doesn't need to fight. She doesn't need a sword. She has me. And I am enough." "And what happens when you're not here to protect her?" Darius sneered, but his voice shook slightly now. "What happens when the King sends fifty guards instead of six? What happens when he sends the Royal Executioner?" Veyran's gaze shifted to Saelith. For a long moment, he just looked at her. Really looked at her. Like he was seeing her for the first time. Not as a stray. Not as a curse. Not as a problem. As his. As the missing piece he didn't know he was looking for. Then he made his decision. She saw it in his eyes. He crossed the distance between them in one step. The marble cracked under his boot. His hand came up to cup her face, thumb brushing the fear and tears from her cheek. His touch was gentle now. Despite the blood on his hands. Despite the bodies on the floor. Gentle only for her. "The Blood Moon only rises once every fifty years," he murmured, voice low enough that only she could hear. The entire hall could have been empty for how focused he was on her. "And when it does... fated mates can be bonded instantly. No ceremony. No permission from the King. No blessing from the priest. Just blood. Just choice. Just forever." Saelith's breath hitched. Her wolf went completely still inside her. Listening. "What are you saying, Veyran?" "I'm saying choose, Saelith." His forehead pressed against hers. His nose brushed her cheek. He smelled like blood and winter and something uniquely him. "Choose me. Right now. Before Darius tries again. Before the King sends more men. Before dawn comes and takes this chance away. Let me mark you. Let me make you mine in the eyes of the Moon, the pack, the Kingdom, and the gods themselves." Her wolf surged forward, recognizing the truth in his words. Recognizing him. This was it. The moment every she-wolf dreamed of and feared. The claiming. The bond. Pain and pleasure and forever all tangled together. "They'll kill us both," she whispered. But her hands were already fisting in his torn shirt. Pulling him closer. "The King will declare war." "Let him." His fangs descended. Sharp. Long. Promising. "I am Veyran Blackthorn. Alpha of the Northern Territory. Son of the Alpha King. Heir to nothing and everything. And you... you are mine. My mate. My weakness. My strength." The first touch of his fangs to her neck sent fire through her veins. Not pain. Not exactly. It was like lightning striking her and setting her soul on fire. It was like being struck and reborn in the same second. She gasped, arched against him, claws digging into his shoulders, and the world disappeared. Ceased to exist. The bond snapped into place with a force that knocked them both to their knees on the marble floor. Silver light exploded from where his teeth pierced her skin. It wrapped around them like chains made of moonlight. Around the hall. Around the entire castle. The blood moon outside flared brighter. Like it approved. Like it had been waiting. Saelith felt him. Inside her mind. Inside her soul. Inside the empty spaces she didn't know she had. His rage. His protectiveness. His desperate, possessive love that he tried to hide behind violence and coldness. And he felt her. Her fear. Her longing. Her loneliness. Her choice. *Mine.* The word echoed between them. Not spoken. Felt. Understood. Accepted. When he pulled back, blood welled at the mark on her neck. A perfect crescent. His mark. His claim. His forever burned into her skin. It throbbed. It burned. It felt like coming home after twenty years of being lost. Darius stumbled back a step, face pale as death. "No. The King will never allow this. He'll execute you both for treason." "The King can watch," Veyran growled, standing and pulling Saelith up with him. Her legs shook violently, but his arm around her waist held her steady. Held her up. "The bond is sealed. By Moon law, older than the Kingdom, older than the throne, she is my mate now. Touch her and you declare war on me. On my territory. On the Moon itself. Try me, brother." He lifted her chin with one finger. His eyes were still silver. Still burning. But when he looked at her, the violence softened. The Alpha disappeared and the man remained. "Are you afraid? Tell me truth." Saelith touched the mark on her neck with trembling fingers. It throbbed under her touch. It burned. It felt like fire and ice and everything in between. "No," she said, and meant it with every part of her soul. "Not anymore. Not with you." Darius slammed his fist on the throne so hard the wood cracked. "This isn't over! The King will hear of this!" Veyran smiled. A real smile this time. Sharp and dangerous and full of promise. "I know. And I can't wait. Tell him I'm coming for the throne too." He bent and lifted Saelith into his arms like she weighed nothing. Like she was precious. Like she was fragile and powerful all at once. Like she was his. As he carried her from the hall, past the bodies of the guards, past his shocked brother, past the ruins of his old life, Saelith rested her head against his chest. His heart thundered under her ear. Fast. Strong. Wild. For her. Only for her. The Blood Moon shone through the broken windows, blessing them. Witnessing them. Sealing them. The bond was forged. In blood. In fire. In choice. In war. And there was no going back. Not ever. --- EPISODE END To be continued in Chapter 12: THE KING'S WRATH 🔥
