THE MOON'S BLESSING

CHAPTER 15: THE MOON'S BLESSING The Blood Moon was full. Saelith stood on the balcony of Blackthorn Fortress, wind tearing at her hair. Below, the entire pack had gathered. Hundreds of wolves. Thousands of eyes. All watching. All waiting. Tonight, the bond would complete. Tonight, she would choose. Not because Veyran forced her. Not because the Moon demanded it. Because she wanted to. Because the male who dropped to his knees and let her choose mercy over murder… was the male she chose too. “Saelith?” Veyran’s voice behind her. No armor tonight. No crown. Just him. Black shirt. Bare feet. Hair loose. The Alpha gone. Only the male left. The one who bled for her. “You don’t have to do this,” he said quietly. Stopping three steps away. Giving her space even now. “The bond is sealed. You’re safe. The ceremony is for them. Not for us. If you want to wait—” “I don’t,” Saelith turned. Met his eyes. Gold. No fire. No rage. Only her. “I waited five years in the mud,” she said. “I waited ten years while you blamed yourself. I’m done waiting, Veyran.” He exhaled like he’d been holding his breath for years. “Are you sure?” One last chance. One last out. “That’s what you do,” Saelith smiled. Small. Real. “You give choices. So here’s mine. I choose you. Not the Alpha. Not the King’s Wrath. You. The male who sees me.” The bond between them flared. Warm. Bright. Complete. No more pain. No more confusion. Only peace. Veyran closed the distance in one step. Forehead to hers. Hands on her face like she might shatter. “My queen,” he whispered. Voice breaking. “My Saelith.” “Your Saelith,” she agreed. And the Moon answered. Light poured down from the sky. Silver and red mixed. The Blood Moon’s curse breaking. Becoming blessing. The mark on Saelith’s neck blazed, then settled. No longer burning. Glowing. Permanent. Beautiful. Below, the pack howled. One voice. One heart. Accepting her. Claiming her as their Luna. Veyran took her hand. Led her to the edge of the balcony. “Look,” he said softly. “Look at what we built, Saelith. Not from blood. Not from war. From choice.” She looked. Saw warriors who once called her trash. Now kneeling. Saw females who once spat at her. Now holding pups up to see her. Their Luna. “They see you now,” Veyran said. Thumb brushed her knuckles. “As I always have. Not as trash. As a storm they’re lucky to survive.” Saelith laughed. Soft. Watery. “Storm, huh?” “The most beautiful one I’ve ever known,” he said. And kissed her knuckles. Then her wrist. Then the mark on her neck. Gentle. Reverent. Like worship. The bond pulsed at his touch. Sharing everything. Her relief. His joy. Her love. His devotion. Ten years of waiting. Five years of pain. All of it worth it for this moment. “Come,” Veyran said. He lifted her easily into his arms. Carried her through the doors and down to the courtyard. The pack parted for them. No one spoke. No one breathed. In the center of the courtyard stood the Moonstone Altar. Ancient. Carved from the same stone as the first Alpha’s throne. Beneath the Blood Moon, it glowed silver. Veyran set Saelith down gently. Stepped back. Gave her one last choice with his eyes. She nodded. Stepped onto the altar. The Elder of the pack stepped forward. Ancient female, blind in one eye. “Hear me, pack of Blackthorn!” Her voice cracked with age and power. “Tonight, the Moon’s blessing is upon us! Tonight, an Alpha who walked in ash for ten years finds his mate who walked through fire for five!” “Howls rose. Louder. Stronger. “The bond is forged!” The Elder continued. “But a bond without choice is a chain. This bond was chosen. Twice. Three times. A thousand times. In exile. In blood. In war. In truth. So we ask now, before the Moon and the pack— Saelith of no house, daughter of none… Do you accept Veyran Blackthorn as your mate? As your Alpha? As your equal?” Silence. The whole world held its breath. Saelith looked at Veyran. At the scars on his chest. At the gold in his eyes. At the male who let her choose mercy. “I do,” she said. Clear. Loud. Certain. The Elder turned to Veyran. “Veyran Blackthorn, King’s Wrath, son of fire, son of ash… Do you accept Saelith as your mate? As your Luna? As your heart?” Veyran didn’t hesitate. Didn’t breathe. “I do,” he said. Voice low. Final. Eternal. “I accept her rage. I accept her scars. I accept her storm. I accept the days she hates me and the nights she needs me. I accept her. All of her. Forever.” The Elder smiled. Raised her hands to the Moon. “Then by the Moon, by blood, by choice… Let the blessing fall!” Light exploded from the sky. Blinding. Warm. It wrapped around Saelith and Veyran like a cloak. The bond completed with a sound like a war drum and a heartbeat. One rhythm. One soul. Two wolves. When the light faded, Saelith felt it. The change. Not in her body. In her soul. No more half-empty. No more waiting. No more alone. She was Luna now. Not in title. In truth. And Veyran… he was no longer the King’s Wrath. He was just hers. He stepped to her. Cupped her face. “Mine,” he whispered. Not claiming. Thanking. “Yours,” she whispered back. Not submitting. Choosing. He kissed her then. Not the desperate bite from the dungeon. Not the claiming mark from the chamber. This kiss was soft. Slow. Home. Years of want. Years of waiting. Years of war. All of it in one touch. The pack erupted. Howling. Celebrating. Drums started. Fires lit. Meat roasted. Wine poured. But Saelith heard none of it. All she heard was his heartbeat. Matching hers. All she felt was his arms around her. Safe. Warm. Real. When he pulled back, forehead to hers, he said one thing. Only for her. Only for the bond. “The curse is broken,” he said. “Lyra was right. I was chosen. And the Moon chose you to prove it. No more ash, Saelith. Only us.” Saelith smiled. Pressed her lips to his jaw. “No more running,” she whispered. “Only home.” Above them, the Blood Moon shone bright. No longer red with warning. Red with promise. Red with love. In the shadows far beyond Blackthorn, Darius watched from exile. Banished. Broken. And for the first time, he understood. It was never about the throne. It was about being chosen. And he never would be. Back in the courtyard, Veyran lifted Saelith again. Carried her past the celebrating pack. Past the fires. Past the war. Up to their chamber. Their bed. Their future. He set her down gently. Didn’t touch her. Didn’t take. Just looked at her like she was the answer to every prayer he never dared speak. “Last chance,” he said softly. “Say no, and I’ll let you go. Say yes, and I’ll never let you go.” Saelith reached up. Pulled him down to her. “No,” she said against his lips. “I’ll never say no again. Only yes. Only you. Only us.” The bond flared one last time. Golden. Bright. Complete. And the Moon bore witness. The Alpha and his Luna. The storm and the sky. The ash and the blessing. Finally. Together. Forever. --- EPISODE END To be continued in Chapter 16: LUNA'S FIRST WAR
