LUNA'S NIGHT

CHAPTER 17: LUNA'S NIGHT The room was quiet after the war. Too quiet. Veyran lay on the bed, shirtless, fresh bandages on his shoulder where Fenris tore him open hours ago. Moonlight spilled through the window, painting silver across his scars and the mate mark on his collarbone. His eyes were closed but Saelith knew he wasn’t sleeping. The bond hummed between them like a live wire. Saelith sat on the edge of the bed. Her ankle still throbbed from the three-story jump, but she ignored it. She jumped for him once today. She’d do it again. “You’re awake,” she whispered. Veyran opened one eye. Gold in the moonlight. “Luna’s got the watch,” he said softly. “How can I sleep when my Luna guards me?” “I’m not guarding you from rogues anymore,” she whispered. “I’m guarding you from nightmares. From ten years of ash you carry alone.” He reached for her hand. Pulled her down beside him. His good arm wrapped around her waist. “Come here. Let me hold you while you guard me.” She lay against his chest. His heartbeat was steady now. Strong. Alive because of her choice today. Thump. Thump. Home. For a long time, neither spoke. Just breathing. Just the bond pulsing between them. Warm. Safe. Complete in a way it hadn’t been before she killed Fenris. Before she chose him with blood on her hands. “Saelith,” Veyran whispered into her hair. “Today you saw me weak. Bleeding. On my knees. Are you scared of me now?” Saelith lifted her head. Looked into his golden eyes. “I saw you bleed for your pack. I saw you fall and rise again. I’m not scared, Veyran. I’m in awe. That’s what an Alpha does. That’s what my Alpha does.” The bond flared bright at her words. Pride flooded him. Love crashed through her. For ten years he thought weakness meant worthless. She showed him weakness meant human. And she loved him more for it. Veyran’s hand came up. Brushed hair from her face. His thumb traced her cheekbone like she was made of glass. “You jumped off a wall for me. You killed Fenris for me. You chose me when you could run. Tell me why, Saelith. What am I to you?” Saelith closed her eyes. Felt the bond stretch open. All his memories flooded her - ten years of ash and war and loneliness with no bottom. She felt his pain like her own. And answered with truth. “You’re not the King’s Wrath to me,” she whispered. “You’re not the Alpha who scares every pack. You’re the male who gave a slave girl armor. Who called her Luna when she felt like trash. Who slept without nightmares because I was there. You’re mine, Veyran. Not because the Moon forced us. Because I choose you. Every day. Especially on days like today when you’re bleeding.” Veyran’s breath caught. His arms tightened around her like she’d disappear if he loosened his hold. For ten years no one chose him. They feared him. Obeyed him. Used him. But she chose him. With blood on her hands and love in her eyes. She chose him when he was weakest. “Saelith,” he said. Just her name. But it sounded like a prayer. “Let me show you what you mean to me. Not Alpha to Luna. Male to mate. Veyran to Saelith. Let me show you.” He shifted carefully, avoiding his wound, and turned her so she lay beneath him. But his weight was nothing. He held himself on one arm. The other hand cradled her face. His eyes searched hers. Asking without words. Giving her every chance to say no. Saelith looked up at him. Her Alpha. Her mate. The male who killed for her and would die for her. She put her hands on his chest. Over his heart that beat only for her. Over his scars. Over their mate mark. “Yes,” she whispered. “Show me, my Alpha.” Veyran lowered his head slowly. Gave her every chance to stop him. She didn’t. She met him halfway. His lips met hers. Soft at first. Reverent like she was sacred. The kiss deepened slowly. Not desperate like the dungeon. Not claiming like the chamber. This was worship. This was thank you. This was I see you and I choose you too. Saelith melted under him. Her hands moved to his hair, holding him close. The bond exploded with light and warmth and love so intense it stole her breath. She felt his memories through the kiss - every year of ash, every night of nightmares - and gave him peace back through the bond. When they broke apart, both breathing hard, Veyran rested his forehead on hers. “Tell me to stop,” he whispered. Voice rough and honest. “Tell me to stop now, Saelith. And I will. No questions. You command me, Luna.” Saelith looked up at him. Her Alpha who would burn the world for her but would stop for one word from her lips. “Don’t stop,” she whispered. No hesitation. “Stay. With me. All night. Be with me, Veyran.” The bond sang like a choir. The Moon witnessed and smiled. And for the first time in both their lives… they weren’t alone. They were home. They were whole. They were each other’s peace after war. Veyran kissed her again. Slower. Deeper. Like he had forever to memorize her lips. His hand slid down her side, gentle, asking permission with every touch. Saelith arched into him, whispering his name like it was the only word she knew. Clothes slipped away piece by piece. Not torn in violence. Reverent. Like unwrapping something sacred hidden too long. The bond guided every touch, every breath. He knew what she needed before she did. She knew what would soothe him before he asked. When he entered her, it wasn’t just bodies joining. It was souls merging. The bond flared so bright Saelith saw stars behind her eyes. She felt his love pour into her - ten years of devotion focused on her now. And she gave him all of herself back. Every hurt, every fear, every wall dissolving in his arms. They moved together slowly. No rush. No violence. No war tonight. Only love. Only healing. Only home. Only the two of them against the world. Veyran whispered her name over and over like a prayer saved for ten years. Saelith cried out for him, for this, for them, for finally being chosen and loved completely. And when release crashed over them, it wasn’t just pleasure. It was completion. The bond snapped fully into place, two halves finally one soul. Moonlight flooded the room as if the Moon goddess blessed their union and smiled on her children. After, Veyran held her close against his chest. His face buried in her neck, inhaling her scent like he’d never get enough. Saelith traced patterns on his chest, over his scars, over his heart beating steady under her fingers. Both too exhausted to speak. Too full to need words. Hours passed. Or minutes. Time didn’t exist in his arms and the bond’s warmth. Outside the fortress was quiet. The pack celebrated their victory. But in here… just peace. Just them. “Saelith,” Veyran whispered finally, voice sleepy and content. “I was dead for ten years. Walking. Breathing. But dead inside. You brought me back to life today. Not just with the jump. With choosing me when I bled.” Saelith kissed his chest over his heart. Over their mate mark. “And you taught me I wasn’t trash,” she whispered back. “You taught me I was Luna all along. Even in chains. Even in mud. We saved each other, Veyran. That’s what mates do.” He pulled her closer. Tighter. Like he could merge their bodies if he tried. “Sleep now, my Luna,” he whispered against her hair. “I’ve got the watch. No more nightmares. Not ever again. Not for either of us. I swear it on my life and the Moon.” And as dawn broke over the mountains, painting the sky pink and gold, two souls broken and alone and drowning in ash for so long finally slept in peace. In each other’s arms. Bonded completely. Chosen forever. Home at last. The Moon smiled down on her King and Queen and blessed their union. The fortress was safe. The pack was safe. And Veyran Blackthorn, the King’s Wrath, finally slept without nightmares because his Luna held his soul in her hands and refused to let go. --- EPISODE END To be continued in Chapter 18: LUNA'S DAWN
