Scarlett was tired of sulking like she had been doing for the past few days. She only changed her attitude when she realized that blaming herself was not going to change the situation or make her feel any better.
The way she had been working hard lately had been taking a toll on her body, though it helped her to forget what happened that night, so she needed to tone it down a bit or she would have to take some time off, which would lead to her insanity.
'Oh please. You couldn't forget that night even if you tried.' Her subconscious told her and she knew that statement was as right as it was going to get.
The whole day, Scarlett had been at home working. She had started the renovations on her home, and even though she wasn't too helpful to the workmen, she assisted as much as she could, handing them their tools. The contractor stated that the renovations would only take 3 months, at most.
After the workmen had dismissed themselves for the evening, informing Scarlett that they would be coming back the next day to continue their work, Scarlett packed her bag for work, had a shower, and left in her jeep.
Scarlett arrived at the club and immediately noticed that something was going on. It was obvious someone was hosting a party or something of that sort. Subtle decorations were in the VIP area, where more couches were added. It was confirmed that it was a birthday party when Scarlett saw the 'happy birthday' banner. Oh well. That didn't have anything to do with her. If Tony had wanted Scarlett to know what was happening, he would have told her.
She walked to the changing room to clothe herself with her work attire. Scarlett applied minimal makeup to herself because she hated to see it caking. It was disgusting at times, especially when one started to sweat.
Scarlett thought it was weird that she hadn't seen Tony since she arrived at the club. Not even a glimpse of him. She saw a few missed calls from him, but after she tried to return them, they went unanswered.
Scarlett decided to do her work and mind her business because the commotion in the VIP section was not her business. But, she couldn't help but peek a few times. She decided to take a break and then return to dancing. She glanced over the VIP section when walking away. Scarlett sighed. Her curiosity was getting the best of her.
She went to the lounge to refuel. All that dancing made her thirsty, but she couldn't drink much as the routines she did wouldn't allow it. Her stomach would start to churn and make her feel uneasy. She should change.
Scarlett went back to the dance floor wearing a different outfit. The men behave just like they did the first time her red hair made them interested in watching her.
After completing her shift for the night, despite her working whenever she felt like it because Tony gave her too much privilege, she put on a short green spaghetti-strapped dress and strappy heels. Green had always looked good on her because it brought out the color of her hair and eyes.
Scarlett sat at the bar like she normally did whenever she finished dancing. It had been a ritual for her ever since she became an employee at the club. She scoffed at herself, remembering how she skipped the night she slept with Jacob. He was making her make so many changes to herself that she wouldn't have accepted if she hadn't met him.
She didn't understand why she felt hurt when he made it clear that he paid for her. She had already been wondering if she was making the right choice by choosing to sleep with him, so when he said that, she immediately knew it was a mistake.
And if that wasn't bad enough, Scarlett remembered that they had unprotected s*x. She was remorseful of that fact, especially because she was the one who sat on his c*ck. She was the one who put it inside of herself.
She was so pissed off at Jacob for insulting her and mad at herself for giving in to him that she hadn't thought about the what-ifs after the fact. She could have run to the pharmacy earlier to get a pack of the morning-after pill, which she did, but it was two days later, and the pharmacist had told her that it would be less effective than if she had taken it within the first 24 hours.
Jacob hadn't ejaculated inside of her, but she wanted to be more safe than sorry. She couldn't imagine getting pregnant after having s*x for the first time in so long. And for a man that would view her as a w***e. She shook her head to get rid of those thoughts. That would be a nightmare. All Scarlett could do was keep her fingers crossed and hope for the best.
Scarlett saw Tony for the first time since she came to the club. He looked in the direction of the bar like he was seeking her out and started walking toward her. He wore a troubled expression on his face and Scarlett furrowed her brows. Something was off. It was the same feeling she felt as soon as she saw that the VIP area was being set up, but she left it alone since it didn't concern her.
She patiently waited as Tony approached and sat on the seat next to her. He pointed to the shelf and the bartender seemed to know what he wanted because the amber-colored liquid in a glass was pushed at him on the counter. He downed it with one gulp and summoned the bartender to refill it by waggling his finger.
As soon as the glass was refilled, Tony took a small sip. It looked like he had something to say, but didn't know how to say it, so Scarlett just waited. This had to be good or bad. She could have said something to get the conversation going, but she saw that Tony needed time. After waiting for about five consecutive minutes, Tony finally spoke.
"How are you doing?" He asked. He knew that Jacob was inside the club as he spoke. They had just finished having a drink in the VIP section where Katrina was hosting the small get-together. He told Jacob he needed to find Scarlett because he didn't want her to feel blindsided.
That wasn't what Scarlett had expected to come out of his mouth. She expected some news of some sort. She knew he could have guessed what had happened in the private room that night. But, did Jacob say anything to him? Was that the reason he was asking her if she was OK?
"I'm good. What about you?" She asked, trying to steer the conversation in favor of him not asking her about that night.
"I could be better. Actually, I wanted to talk___" Both Scarlett and Tony's attention was taken by the woman speaking loudly in the VIP section. If Scarlett had been paying attention to Tony, she would have seen the bewildered expression on his face, but she listened on as the woman spoke.
"I want to wish my fiance a happy birthday. You're everything that I could ever want in a man and I'm happy to have you standing by my side. I love you so much. I want to thank everyone for coming out to celebrate with us." She held her glass up and toasted a happy birthday to him, and everyone present followed suit.
Scarlett noticed that she was very beautiful. And the man she was wishing a happy birthday to, her fiance, was built. She could see his physique from where he sat and he seemed somewhat familiar. Scarlett could tell that he had a banging body. She couldn't see his face though, as his back was turned.
He stood and walked up to the woman, hugging her. He let her go and turned to show gratitude to the people present and they made eye contact. Scarlett gasped.
'F*cking hell!' She swore internally, but her lips had a mind of their own and so she whispered,
"Jacob."
