Chapter 2

The rain felt heavenly against his skin, it is the first thing that felt normal and reminded him of his home since arriving in this foreign town. Looking at her from a far felt strange and so intoxicating. She was so close to him and yet still so far away. His heart flitted with the prospect of touching her. But his logical mind wanted to know why she was alone? Why was she walking alone? Where is she going? She is so beautiful. His eyes took all her in. The way her hair fell in the rain, her light brown curls relaxed with the weight of the water, her skin beautifully sun-kissed. She is alone. It would be so easy to complete this task now and just take her. A perfect time. Fast easy no one will even know she is gone… “Hey there…” How? How did she hear me? Ask she spoke she started to walk closer to me. Her voice pierced my ear drums like a sweet nectar. By body and mind both desired to be closer to her. My inner voice pleading to be closer to her. To breathe in her sweet scent. The mild accent in her voice plucked at the strings of myself control, so I took a step back before answering her, I don’t want her to be this close, not yet. I don’t want to hurt her. May the Goddess please give me the strength. As she spoke she kept moving closer to me. Her curiosity over powering her sense of self preservation. I laughed mildly. She has no fear. She keeps talking about some party. Of course, she would be going to a party look at how beautiful she is. Her outfit could leave a little more to the imagination. She kept moving closer I could smell her blood. It sang to me. The sweet scent of honeysuckle coming from her blood filling my lungs. The urge to ripe into her was almost impossible to control. I started backing up to turn away and trying to turn away. This conversation had gone on long enough. Her smile was so amazingly beautiful. It was so entrancing it was hard to ignore. She smiled brightly and slid her hands into the back pockets of the shorts. While she looked at her phone for the time, I slid farther into the darkness and bolt as quickly as possible. Her scent still dancing in the air around me. She came so close, it would have been so easy. She is so trusting. The idea that she will open up so easily for me was pleasing, I won’t have to steal her, she will come to me… Alone a woman sits on a bench under the glass canopy waiting for a bus to arrive. Her hair and clothing soaked from being caught in the rain her bags dripping water onto the ground next to her. The air whips around her as she huddles against the wall in the enclosed portion of the structure. Lights flicker on along the street illuminating the wet pavement. She scans the road desperately looking for headlights. Watching her watch shivering in the cold. Small, weak. Easy target. A simple fix to an aggravating hunger. From the shadows I step on to the sidewalk and approach the shivering creature. She smiles at me her green eyes heavy with sadness. She moved her bag to allow me to sit on the floor. Her voice quivering as she spoke to me. Flickering from her watch to the road she never left her eyes on me for too an extended period. I could her heart pounding in her chest. The way her jugular moved when she swallowed. She kept talking, I am assuming it is a nervous tick of hers. An annoying tick. Inching closer she never noticed until I was so close if I would have looked at her directly she would have felt my breathe on her skin. Her skin smelled of illness. She was dying. Her body was failing her. At such a young age to be this ill. Kindness filled her voice even though she was frightened. What a mercy this will be. When she finally looks at me I capture her eyes and compel her silence. Sharing a warm glow to spread through her. Her cheeks flush a brilliant pink and her lungs fill with lavender and citrus. Her head tilts to the side slightly as her eyes roll to back. Her throat opens up and I sink my teeth into her jugular. The blood rushes from her body into my mouth slowly my hunger subsides. Her heart rate slows to a deafening silence. Her eyes drain of life, leaving her limp against his chest. Her body lifeless and cold on the bench. He left her there alone as when he found her. the rain still slamming itself against the glass. Her eyes staring of into the void. His hand draped over her face pulling her eyelids down, propping her against the window pane. Sleeping to the unknown eyes. His mind wondering too far off places as he left her and returned to the trees. What am I supposed to do? Why they sent me I will never know. This ideal that she will come to them willingly is a joke. She has no clue who or what she is, hell I barely even now what she is. I must find it. I must find the key. I have to get it along with her back to them. They need her, and he needs it. It must be around her somewhere. Where the hell else could it be…
